Leicestershire County Cricket Club started their pre-season
training in Anguilla this past Friday with a two-day match
against Anguilla, Sunday with a one-day against St. Maarten and
Tuesday with the first of two one-day matches against Anguilla.
In the two-day match, Leicestershire C.C.C. won the toss and
elected to bat on a typically hard and fast Ronald Webster Park
pitch. Leicestershire displayed their first-class talent and
batted very well in accumulating 347 for 9 declared. Captain and
England all-rounder, Vince Wells with aggression and top scored
with 87 and was ably supported by his vice Captain Ben Smith (79)
and Trevor Ward (58). Paulivor Rogers bowled steadily for
Anguilla as he picked up 4 for 52.
Anguilla replied with 164: quite a solid score considering that
Leicestershire has one of the better bowling attacks in England.
Captain Alex Adams top scored with a flashy 41 and was assisted
by Nevision Runako Morton (25), Richard Stevens (24), Paulivor
Rogers (18 not out) and Marlon Martin (14).
Leicestershire quickly notched up 174 for 3 declared in reply
with John Dakin (73) and England opener Darren Maddy (53) being
the main contributors. This left Anguilla to bat out the last
couple of hours on the final day's play, which they did in
scoring 55 for 1. Leon Lake (33) and Omari Banks (18) were the
two not out batsmen.
On Sunday, Leicestershire made light work of the St. Maarten team
as they put together a total of 229 for 9 from 40 overs. St.
Maarten's modest reply came to a close at 136 for 6 after 38
overs when bad light stopped play. The first one-day against
Anguilla was played this past Tuesday and turned out to be a onesided affair. Anguilla won the toss and elected to bat as they
were bowled out for a modest 96. Paulivor Rogers top scored with
25 not out and was assisted by Rudolph Proctor (16) and Zach
Kenworthy (15). Leicestershire, for practice purposes for their
upcoming season, were allowed to bat their full 50 overs and
chase a score of 300. Ben Smith top scored with a dynamic 145 not
out and Trevor Ward helped with 49 as Leicestershire finished on
300 for 7. Both Chaka Hodge and Paulivor Rogers claimed two
wickets apiece. The next one-day is to be played this Thursday.
