  • It was the 1516th Test match in cricket history.
  • It was Australia's 607th and West Indies' 365th Test match.
  • It was the 91st match between these two sides. The record now reads: Australia 38, West Indies 31, drawn 21 and tied one.
  • It was the 53rd match between these two sides in Australia. The record now reads: Australia 26, West Indies 18, drawn 8 and tied one.
  • It was the 10th match between these two sides on this ground. The record now reads: Australia 4, West Indies 3, drawn 2 and tied one.
  • It was the 313th match for Australia at home. Australia has won 165 and lost 85, while 62 matches have been drawn and one tied.
  • Umpires Doug Cowie and Darrel Harper officiated in their 19th and 10th match respectively.
  • Marlon Black made his Test debut. He became the 236th player to represent West Indies in Test cricket.
  • 19878 people saw first day's play. It was the biggest first day crowd in Brisbane since Test against England 68 years ago.
  • The wicket of McLean in first innings was 292nd for Glenn McGrath in his 63rd Test which puts him ahead of Craig McDermott who had a tally of 291 wickets from 71 Tests. Now only Shane Warne with 366 wickets from 84 matches and Dennis Lillee with 355 wickets from 70 Tests have taken more wickets for Australia than McGrath.
  • West Indies' first innings total of 82 is its third lowest in a completed innings against Australia after 51 at Port-of-Spain in 1998-99 and 78 at Sydney in 1951-52. It is also the eighth lowest Test score for West Indies.
  • Brian Lara was out without scoring for the sixth time in his career in first innings - his third time against Australia.
  • Marlon Black was dismissed without scoring in his debut innings (caught by MacGill at third slip off McGrath). He became the 35th West Indian to achieve this dubious distinction of getting a duck in debut innings.
  • Glenn McGrath (6-17) recorded his best figures against West Indies beating the 5 for 50 at Melbourne in 1996-97. He has now taken five wicket hauls on eight occasions against West Indies in 14 Tests.
  • Five batsmen were dismissed without scoring in West Indies' first innings. It was the fifth time when five batsmen failed to open their account for West Indies in an innings. The other such occasions being v Pakistan at Karachi and Dhaka in 1958-59 (scores 146 & 76), v New Zealand at Christchurch in 1979-80 (score 228) and v England at Leeds in 2000 (score 61). Overall it was the 27th instance of five batsmen being dismissed without scoring in a Test innings. The Test record of six noughts jointly held by Pakistan (v West Indies at Karachi in 1980-81) and South Africa (v India at Ahmedabad in 1996-97).
  • The first wicket partnership of 101 runs between Michael Slater and Matthew Hayden is Australia's best for this wicket against West Indies at Bribane beating the record of 99 by Ian Redpath and Alan Turner in 1975-76.
  • Brett Lee (61) made his highest first class score beating his previous best score of 21 and first class score of 39.
  • The duck in Australia's only innings was sixth for McGrath against West Indies, thus equalling Jeff Thomson and Terry Alderman's tally against West Indies. Now only Ian Healy with 10 ducks against West Indies is ahead of McGrath.
  • West Indies, with nine ducks in the match (five in the first innings and four in the second) recorded the dubious distinction of equalling the world record for maximum ducks in a match. Sri Lankan batsmen also aggregated nine ducks in the Chandigarh Test against India in 1990-91.
  • McGrath has now dismissed Lara 12 timesmost by any bowler.
  • Ramnaresh Sarwan and Mervyn Dillon bagged a pair in the Test. This was only the second instance of two West Indian batsmen bagging a pair each in the same Test. Everton Weekes and F Alexander had recorded a pair of spectacles against England in Oval Test in 1957.
  • Dillon has now bagged a pair on two occasions. The previous such occasion for him had also come against Australia in the Port-of-Spain Test in 1998-99.
  • West Indies aggregated only 206 runs in two innings which equals its worst performance in a Test. West Indies was bundled out for 99 and 127 in two innings also against Australia at Melbourne in 1930-31. Incidentally the Test record of lowest match aggregate for a team is held by South Africa as it was bundled out for 36 and 45 respectively in two innings against Australia at Melbourne in 1931-32.
  • The total of ten ducks in the match (nine for West Indies and one for Australia) provided the 20th such instance in Test history. The Test record is of 11 ducks which has now been recorded on nine occasions.
  • McGrath's match figures (10 for 27) are the third cheapest for a bowler capturing ten wickets in a match. The record is in the name of England's Johnny Briggs who took 15 for 28 (@ 1.86 runs per wicket) against South Africa at Cape Town in 1888-89. The following table lists the bowlers capturing cheapest ten wicket match hauls:
RpW Bowler Wkts Runs For Vs Venue Test Season

  • McGrath has now taken 83 wickets in just 14 Tests against West Indies. Only Indian Kapil Dev (89 wickets in 25 Tests) and Englishman Fred Trueman (86 wickets in 18 Tests) have taken more wickets against West Indies than McGrath.
  • The victory by an innings and 126 runs also brought with it a world recordequalling eleventh consecutive Test victory for the Australians since beating Zimbabwe by 10 wickets at Harare in October 1999. Ironically it was West Indies who had won 11 matches at a trot under Clive Lloyd's captaincy from 1983-84 to 1984-85. The following table lists the best winning streaks in Test cricket:
  • Tests Country Period

  • The win is also Australia's eighth consecutive at home soil, which equals the record sequence for Australia in home matches. Australia had won 8 consecutive matches from 1920-21 to 1924-25 under Warwick Armstrong's leadership. This, however, is not a Test record. The record of winning most consecutive matches at home soil is jointly held by India and South Africa. India had won 10 consecutive matches at home soil from 1988-89 to 1994-95 . South Africans emulated them in between 1997-98 and 1999-00.
