@NAIKAN (you too have a good name!) Before replying to my comment, you should've checked what BELLCURVE has commented...Just check carefully before posting a comment!!! Kallis is not in the league of Lara/SRT!!! Obviously SA did well for 124 Tests during Kallis career as SA had the 2nd Best bowling attack after Aus....You can't compare this stat with SRT/Lara as India & WI had a toothless bowling attacks for the last 15yrs or so esp outside SC!!! I've great respect for Kallis for what he has done but you can't place him along with SRT & Lara!!!

@ITJobsucks - (good name you have) I don't see the point of running down a great player on the basis of half baked analysis. If we were to follow your methods then one would wonder what the selectors saw in Sachin at the beginning of his career - He averaged only 37.4 in first 20 tests!! (like looking at the tip of an iceberg)! Or for that matter if we only looked at that Sir Gary Sobers took 16 tests to score his first century and ignore the rest. So look at the entire picture. For me a players worth is checked when we see how his contribution matters to the team. SA did not lose in 124 (out of 166) matches Kallis played during which his performance was 10700 runs at Avg 67 and 231 wickets at 28.5 (better than most regular bowlers). And these numbers remain high for away matches too. So just give the man his due.

Greatest all round cricketer to play the game but never gets the plaudits he deserves, I wasn't all that sad when Sachin left but was incredibly sad when Kallis left. My favourite player by far

@ITJOBSUCKS - here's the thing, you can't take those tours away! otherwise you could pick and choose from most players statistics to artificially inflate them. Kallis may not be as good as Sachin with the bat (some say he played within himself on team orders and could have score more runs more quickly...who knows) but he most definitely was a better cricketer when you add his bowling and fielding. At the end of the day it doesn't matter, be grateful you got to witness a generation that included greats the like of Kallis, Lara, McGrath, Muralitharan, Ponting, Tendulkar, Warne and many others - (ordered alphabetically so don't anyone get their knickers in a knot!)

@BELLCURVE Sachin scored a 100 in Aus when he was 18(youngest batsman to score a 100 in Aus & Eng)!!! Also, if i exclude sachin's last away tours to Aus(avg 36) & Eng(avg 35) when he was 38, then his average would look even better than what it is now!!!

@RAKON_ME - he averaged 41.22 against Aus. Also took 51 wickets against them at 37 a piece. That's not bad. You should also take into consideration that he played 3 Tests against Aus when he was just 21 years old, and still developing. I don't want to slice and dice his numbers too much, be things like this should be considered. If you exlude those 3 Tests, his average climbs to 45.

@ FAZALBAKHTIAR Agreed but not making runs & struggling against Aus tells that he ain't that good!!! If you are the Best, then you've to perform particularly against the BEST(Aus) in their den which is what SRT & Lara did!!! Just scoring loads of runs against some sub-standard bowling attacks like Ind, WI, NZ doesn't make anyone the BEST!!

Dravid put it perfectly...he is second only to sachin...lara and punter are as good as him but he stands out ..

He's a true modern legend. As simple as that.

@ITJOBSUCKS making hundreds is not everything (if your team still lose). He is the best of his era.
