2014 - When Sangakkara hit 319, his highest score in international cricket against Bangladesh, it wasn't the only milestone he accomplished. By doing so, he equaled Brian Lara in the list of batsmen with most 200-plus scores, behind only Don Bradman. He also became the fastest to reach 11000 Test runs, and overtook Ricky Ponting with the highest number of centuries batting at No. 3.
2011 - Against Pakistan in the UAE, Sangakkara becomes only the third Sri Lankan to score more than 500 runs in a series (516 runs in three Tests), after Jayasuriya and Jayawardene, and claims his first Man-of-the-Series award in Tests.
2009 - At the age of 31 and with the experience of 80 Tests and 246 ODIs, Sangakkara succeeds Jayawardene as Sri Lanka's captain in all formats of the game and wins his first two series.
2007 - Becomes the fifth man in Test history to have scored back-to-back double-centuries, with 200 not out and 222 not out against Bangladesh in home Tests.
2004 - Misses out on a triple-century by 30 runs after he and Marvan Atapattu have Zimbabwe bowlers submit completely in the Bulawayo Test. They add 438 for the second wicket - fourth highest in the world - as Sangakkara makes 270.
2002 - Sangakkara scores his first double-century - four less than Pakistan's first-innings 234 - in the Asian Test Championship final. The innings comes off 327 balls, and sets the championship up nicely for Sri Lanka.
2001 - Missing the three-figure mark twice, getting out in the nineties, Sangakkara fights the nerves in Galle against India to score his first Test century. His innings of 105 not out helps set up a 10-wicket victory for Sri Lanka.
2000 - At 25, Sangakkara makes his Test debut in the first of three Tests against South Africa, keeping wickets. Sri Lanka win the match and in his side's only innings, Sangakarra bats at No. 5 and scores 23 runs.
