Thirush Kamini began playing cricket with her father when she was nine years old but soon moved to the Sports and Development Authority of Tamil Nadu for some professional coaching. Playing with boys, for a while, she kept wickets. But by 2002, Kamini had decided that leg spin was the way to go.
Kamini made a memorable debut at 16 in the Asia Cup in Jaipur when she took her career-best 3 for 19 against Pakistan. India won the tournament and Kamini won the player-of-the-tournament award for her eight wickets at 10.87. But against stronger opposition, picked for the Quadrangular tournament in Chennai in February-March 2007, Kamini got only one wicket in the in three games she played.
Her action is round arm and looks more like a legbreak bowler going round the wicket than over. On the Chepauk pitch, she got very little turn and her expensive spells meant that she did not always get to finish her quota of overs.

Ishant Sharma has often been the butt of jokes, and sometimes deservedly so. Today, however, the joke was on England
The leave outside off stump has been critical to M Vijay's success since his India comeback last year. Contrary to popular opinion, such patience and self-denial comes naturally to him
They have to see a glass that is half-full, and play the game as if it is just that, a game; and an opportunity
Only 15 times in Test history has a player achieved the double of 300 runs and 20 wickets in a Test series. Going on current form, Bhuvneshwar could well be the 16th
In India's win at Lord's, Ishant Sharma took the best bowling figures by an Indian in the fourth innings of a Test outside Asia. Here are five other best bowling efforts by Indians in the fourth innings of Tests outside Asia
India's wretched run away from home began at Lord's in 2011. A young team full of self-belief may have brought it to an end with their victory at the same venue three years later
