Air Vice-Marshall Johnnie Johnson was one of a number of English cricketers whose first-class experience came while serving with the forces in India in World War Two, playing four times for Sind as an opening batsman and the only European on the team. His one first-class appearance in England came in 1947 playing for Combined Services against Oxford University.

Johnson was an allround sportsman who played hockey and squash, as well as cricket, for the RAF.
