Playing Role

Bowling Allrounder

Sarah Glenn, a hard-hitting, legspinner allrounder, won an international call-up for England's 2019 series against Pakistan in Malaysia on the back of an impressive Kia Super League season, and five weeks later was named in their squad for the T20 World Cup in Australia.

A talented junior hockey player, Glenn was among the 26,000 fans at Lord's in 2017 to watch England's World Cup final win against India, which helped sway her towards the sport she eventually chose. She was home-schooled for most of her education, before joining Trent College for sixth form and playing boys' first XI cricket.

She was a seamer coming through the Derbyshire age-group system, but switched to legspin after being inspired by footage of Shane Warne. She made her KSL debut for Loughborough Lightning in 2017 as a 17-year-old, and became increasingly involved in the England academy programme.

In 2019, Glenn enjoyed a breakthrough season in the KSL, taking 11 wickets at 18.72, which propelled her into England contention ahead of Sophia Dunkley and Alex Hartley. A solid debut series against Pakistan meant she kept her place for the tri-series against Australia and India at the start of 2020, and she then played all four games at the T20 World Cup, taking six wickets and conceding just 4.25 runs per over before England were knocked out by the rain in the semi-finals.

After the Covid-19 pandemic had threatened to wipe out the 2020 summer, Glenn ended the season as England's player of the series against West Indies, with seven wickets in five games and a useful cameo with the bat from No. 7 to back up her claim that she wanted to be considered as a "genuine allrounder".
