As a right-handed batsman and fast-medium bowler, he appeared for Border in the Currie Cup competition from 1903 to 1927, his highest innings being 176 not out against Eastern Province in 1910-11. In 1912 he was a member of the South African team who figured in the Triangular Tournament in England, but he played in only twelve matches, including two Tests, for, in returning a ball from the deep field, he fractured an arm.
