Raining again

Thomas to Dawson, no run, inside edge into the pads, bobbles back to Thomas who decides not to throw at the non-striker's stumps

Thomas to Dawson, 2 runs, down the pitch and they get a couple out to deep cover

5.23pm Dominic Cork, Hampshire's captain, has an awful lot of thinking to do in the next ten overs. Does he bowl his seamers up front for an over, in the knowledge that more rain will zap them from the game. Or does he go to his spinners up front, and risk handing Trescothick and co a flying start ... enough talking, we're ready to find out for certain!

5.20pm Hurray, the sun is back, and you know what, we might just get started in five minutes ... wonders never cease

Meanwhile, it's starting to spit once again. Gah

5.15pm Shahid Afridi, whose involvement with Hampshire was up in the air at the start of the Twenty20 season, has justified his presence with a cracking throwback of an innings. But what can his speedy spin conjure up when he gets his two overs ... "We're going to try to win this game, it is very important for us ..."

Dimitri Mascarenhas, speaking to Sky, thinks the shorter game will suit Somerset's big hitters, but we shall see... ominously, there's another filthy cloud closing in on the ground ...

5.10pm Here we go. Ten overs for Somerset to chase 95. First three overs Powerplay, bowlers can bowl max of two overs each... Lots of time lost to the endless delays, and understandably they want to give the final as much space as possible ...

5.05pm Lots of concern about the state of the outfield. Hideous pools of mud forming on parts of the outfield at the moment, particularly on the old practice strips. Steve Rouse, Warwickshire's soon-to-be-retired groundsman has said "he's a bit fed up"...

5pm The sun is back out. Hurray. We are hearing that we'll be back in action at 5.25pm and the press-box scorer believes Hampshire's target will be 140 ... off how many overs ... TBC ...

4.50pm Evening all. What a shambles of a day. But in spite of everything, some cracking action taking place out there. And if they ever get a proper stab at a reply, Somerset's big hitters could provide us with another thriller ...

And with one ball remaining the rain has forced the players off. That will be the end of Hampshire's innings. Heavy rain again, another of these pesky showers. What a day for the groundstaff. Right, on that note, as we wait for the confirmation of Somerset's target I'll hand over to Andrew Miller for the rest of the day. He's gagging for it.
