Shakib Al Hasan, currently ranked as the world's best allrounder in Test and ODI cricket, is poised to make a return to the county game.

Shakib, 24, a former Bangladesh captain, has enjoyed previous stints in county cricket with Worcestershire, but will not be returning to New Road. Essex are one of the leading candidates for his signature. "He is one of the names we are considering," Paul Grayson, the Essex head coach said, "but nothing is finalised."

Shakib had originally planned to take a break after the IPL, where he is playing for Kolkata Knight Riders, but writing in Prothom Alo, the Bangladesh newspaper, he said his renewed appetite for the game had convinced him to return for another stint of county duty.

"Before I came to IPL, I had thought that I won't be playing country cricket," Shakib wrote. "I have played a lot of cricket in the last year, so I needed a bit of rest. But that rest which I had craved seems to be going away from me once again. I have a call-up from county cricket. I hope it will be finalised in two to four days, but not for Worcestershire, if I play this year it will be for a new team.

"The reason I had to retract from my initial decision of not playing county is to let myself play matches. After the Asia Cup, we got a long break so I feel rather than taking rest, it is better to play some cricket. Still I'm looking for a gap in the schedule so that I can take a 15-20 days uninterrupted break from the game. Even this sort of a break has become very important for me."

WickyRoy.paklover You may be right. After all what do those ICC know? Shakib waits for batsmen to make mistake and he got more wickets...but Narine forces players to make mistakes he got less wickets. May be it's just Shakib's luck. He plays for an ordinary team (compared to the top 5 teams in the world). But his wickets are from international matches played against these top teams. I think Narine is new so everyone is trying to figure him out. They will all analyze him and know how to play him sooner or later. They have to keep on innovating. Everyone has already analyzed Shakib. He still gets wickets and more runs than Narine. Unfortunately, Bangladeshi players have the glass ceiling to crack. Shakib needs to show better batting performance whenever he gets a chance. It was not as good as his BPL performance.

@WickyRoy.paklover...Shakib don't require a certificate from you...his standard is being reflected in the ICC rankings for the last couple of years (and also in the last Asia cup). Shakib may not be considered in the KKR for various reasons...team combinations, player quota etc. That doesn't mean he is an ordinary one....keep on watching bro......

Posted by   on (May 6, 2012, 16:14 GMT)

IF SHAKIB IS A ORDINARY PLAYER THEN WHY IS HE GETTING OFFERS FROM CLUBS SUCH AS KKR AND ESSEX..............?????!!!!!!

Posted by WickyRoy.paklover on (May 6, 2012, 9:37 GMT)

@bohurupi,he has been replacd by narine who z far beter bowler than shakib,

Thanks to KKR for raising the playing instict inside Sakib by axing him from the team. Please keep him away from low esteemed IPL so that the hunger in him rises once again. If he had played all the matches for KKR, he wouldnt be playing in County, so thanks to KKR management lol !County cricket is real cricket and not IPL glamour where teams play so that Preity Zinta can jump up and above? Ludicrous League this IPL

@Asad.Hafiz,vry funny n hillarious bt this z nt ur mistake,ur team have jst producd one playr of intrnatnl standard in last 15 years or so.by d way one could feel jealousy 4rm an equal or beter person nt 4rm below level.

Posted by sfarazi on (May 6, 2012, 3:45 GMT)

I think this attitude is really something that more Bangladeshi cricketers need to adopt. IPL has been quite disappointing in my opinion because nowadays, it's become all about the money rather than promoting the 20/20 format of the game. County cricket remains true to real cricket and Shakib will learn a lot from his stint with Essex. Good luck to Shakib :)

It is realy good for Shakib to play with other lefty Cook and also player like Petersen,Bopara.

@VICKY ROY .... You have not enough cricket sense to justify shakib's tallent. He has not become no. 1 allrounder by playing ordinary bowling or batting. Infact u guys are jealous about him......

Posted by Muhtasim13 on (May 5, 2012, 20:49 GMT)

@ bohurupi, KKR are winning matches with the current line up they have. Why would they want to change it? And, how do you know that he is in form or not? Maybe he's not playing well in the nets, so you can't really say that he's in form.

Highly over.ratd playr by bd fans ,he z being hypd so much bcoz of playng 4 an extremely ordinary, below average team, othrwise he z nothng bt a reasönable batsman pls an average bowler who waits d batsman to make mistake in ordr to take wickets.ths z truth nothng else

No matter what people think of him, he is the best young performer of Cricket. You can bet your hope on him.

Posted by bohurupi on (May 5, 2012, 15:14 GMT)

Why Shakib is being consistently excluded from the KKR team in recent IP Lmatches? He is not in the team any more or is injured or what? Can anyone tell?

Posted by DecisionPending_BD on (May 5, 2012, 12:28 GMT)

Every team should have put their dom cricket structure like this, this is the best. The root of cricket.

Good luck for our Hero Shakib, hopefully he sign the contract with Essex & do what he done with Worcestershire & make us proud as always, I m eagerly waiting for going to Essex to see his Match & him all the way from Germany

County is the right place for you brother. IPL is for scoundrels who run after money! KKR will never give you your rights- India probably really is trying to revenge us for the Asia Cup. Good Luck - we miss cricket international cricket in BD.

Good luck for shakib...... i think he will show his character if he played for Essex...........he will prove how good he is ...but KKR doesnt realize his potentiality...they treat him like an ordinary all rounder....but ture cahmpion always shine at a big race.... shakib proved it previously and .....and he proved it again....

Posted by   on (May 4, 2012, 23:36 GMT)

No doubt, it will be an wining deal for Essex if they can successfully sign the contract with Shakib! Look forward to seeing him with Essex in very shortime.

County cricket is the place where cricketers can learn...it developes you as a better one but IPL is just money....nothing useful to learn. Leave IPL and Join County cricket and create paths for more Bangladeshi cricketers. This will help to make bangladesh as a strong respectable team.

Posted by   on (May 4, 2012, 18:16 GMT)

yes, apart for sitting Cricket will be great. Hope for your success......

Posted by   on (May 4, 2012, 17:24 GMT)

I am looking forward to Shakib signing the contract for Essex.

Posted by   on (May 4, 2012, 17:18 GMT)

he is the best good luck sakib

Posted by shillingsworth on (May 4, 2012, 16:47 GMT)

@AdrianVanDenStael - as an Essex supporter, I wish I could agree with you but it works both ways and we've lost a few good ones in recent years. Amla and Styris moved on to other counties and Southee would have done the same, if he'd been fit. Palladino, Wright and Chopra left and have been performing notably better for their new counties. Going further back, Andre Adams was our overseas pro. As a Notts player, he's been one of the best bowlers on the county circuit.

Shakib seems to have most professional attitude among Bangladeshi cricketer. He always wanna play & that's why he won't waste his time in June-July. So he opted to join a new county this year. Anyway, I hope current no.1 All-rounder of cricket will help ESSEX to promote in Division 1 as like as he did in 2010 for WORCESTERSHIRE.

Posted by   on (May 4, 2012, 15:18 GMT)

I am sure Essex would be benefited if shakib is signed~~~

Posted by pjbarua on (May 4, 2012, 15:16 GMT)

Essex have made a good choice. Surely a match winner. Hope for his best form in county.

Posted by maysunaneek on (May 4, 2012, 15:08 GMT)

Good news for both Shakib & Essex. He should be vital for Essex in the longer forms of the game, FC & List A!

Posted by Hassan.Farooqi on (May 4, 2012, 14:52 GMT)

All said and done, at the end of the day it is the English County that is the traditional nursery of cricket. IPL might highlight his T20 talent, but it is the county cricket that will make him test cricketer i.e. "Real Cricketer".

Posted by   on (May 4, 2012, 14:41 GMT)

I think, Shakib should go for it. May be IPL provides money but County Cricket provides prestige.

Posted by Baundele on (May 4, 2012, 14:25 GMT)

Shakib is a useful cricketer. Whatever be the condition, he will perform. As a Bangladeshi I am thankful to the KKR management for NOT selecting him in the playing XI. I think, by now Shakib has also understood that he does not have any big role to play for KKR in the field. That gives him the much needed break and it will prepare him for some competitive cricket.

Posted by   on (May 4, 2012, 14:09 GMT)

This will be a huge boost for the club ESSEX....Shakib al hasan is a terrific player n also the best player from bangladesh still now...SHakib signing will be a gud decision for essex.

Posted by AdrianVanDenStael on (May 4, 2012, 13:45 GMT)

This would certainly be a very good coup for Essex. After signing Alviro Petersen, they seem to be developing a knack of getting players to come and join them from under other counties' noses. But Shakib's record in one-day cricket speaks for itself and he would be a good signing.

Posted by Ordinary_think_tank on (May 4, 2012, 13:39 GMT)

KKR is not utilizing him that leads him to change his mind. Being in form he is always deprived by KKR management. Go ahead bro..... wise people know how to treat talented people.

Posted by   on (May 4, 2012, 13:35 GMT)

: ) our pride shakib al hasan.

Posted by   on (May 4, 2012, 13:32 GMT)

My advise for Shakib is to play County Cricket if its offered to him that way not only he will have a great time in England but also experience the English conditions and develop his game overseas so that way he can help Bangladesh compete at the highest level with all that experience of his. He's a very young man and obviously one of the best in the world and I'm glad that there are some County teams that are actually considering taking in players from Bangladesh. Though he is playing in the IPL but next season should not bother playing as its a waste of time for him, he's already earning enough money and use the IPL season as a long term break and then move to England playing County Cricket refreshed.
