Surrey's top order suffered a dramatic collapse as in-form Hampshire cruised to their fourth successive Friends Life t20 victory at West End. Surrey lost Steven Davies to the last ball of the first over, Murali Kartik and Jason Roy in the second and then Rory Hamilton-Brown midway through the third to slump to 9 for 4 after winning the toss.

The visitors never recovered as they were limited to 94 for 6 from their 20 overs and Hampshire had little difficulty in sweeping past that target, finishing on 95 for 3 to win by seven wickets with 27 balls to spare.

Surrey were in trouble from that first over when Hampshire spinner Liam Dawson found a way through Davies' defences to bowl the opener for 3. But their plight worsened considerably in the next over when Dimitri Mascarenhas dismissed Kartik to the first ball the Indian faced and three balls later got rid of Roy. Hamilton-Brown was then run out by Danny Briggs and the damage was done.

Gary Wilson departed for 9, stumped by Michael Bates off Dawson, to make it 26 for 5 and Surrey were 42 for 6 when Matt Spriegel went for 14. Zafar Ansari, 38 not out, and Gareth Batty, 23 not out, at least prevented a rout with an unbroken 52-run stand for the seventh wicket, but it was no where near enough.

The result was never in doubt as James Vince and Jimmy Adams put on 43 for the first Hampshire wicket until Kartik caused some minor concern in the home camp with three wickets for the addition of just 10 runs. Vince and Adams were both stumped by Davies before Simon Katich was trapped lbw for 1.

But Hampshire had plenty of time and plenty of batsmen and Neil McKenzie and Glenn Maxwell eased them home in an unbroken stand of 42 in seven overs. Australian Maxwell continued his spectacular T20 spell with Hampshire by lifting Ansari for six on his way to 22 not out. McKenzie was unbeaten with a more sedate 20 as Hampshire reached their target after 15.3 overs to move onto nine points in the South Group, three behind leaders Sussex and five clear of last-placed Surrey.
