Jordan Clark, the Lancashire batsman who struck six sixes in an over for the second XI earlier in the week, is savouring his "champagne moment" but admitted he did not realise quite how significant the achievement was.

Since he clobbered Yorkshire left-arm spinner Gurman Randhawa for 36 in the over, Clark's phone has barely stopped ringing. The right-hand batsman, who has yet to play first-class cricket, has been inundated with requests for interviews and has appeared on both local TV and radio.

He is the first professional English cricketer to achieve the feat - although quite how it will be recorded for posterity remains to be seen as the fixture was not first-class, List A or Twenty20 - joining a list that currently includes Garry Sobers, Ravi Shastri, Yuvraj Singh and Herschelle Gibbs. When Clark got home after the second team match, his girlfriend had found the YouTube clip of when Yuvraj dealt Stuart Broad the same treatment in 2007.

Amazingly, when Clark struck the fifth of his sixes it gave him his second chance in little more than six months to complete the rare full set of maximums, having come within one blow of achieving it while playing club cricket in Australia during the winter. On that occasion he "cuffed" his final attempt, but in Scarborough he called the sixth blow "probably my best".

"I have enjoyed the attention," Clark said. "It is probably never going to happen again so it is something I want to embrace. It gets to a point where I think about getting a big score, which is the main aim, but there was also an opportunity to hit six sixes which is why I had a chat with my team-mate. Luckily, it worked out quite well.

"The last shot was probably my best and I remember it going over midwicket. It was a relief when I connected and took a lot of pressure off me. I didn't realise how big it was and the phone hasn't stopped ringing. It has been pretty hectic."

Last season was a difficult one for Clark, after he had managed to break into the Lancashire Twenty20 side during the 2011 summer. Later that year, during a stint in New Zealand, he came down with a stress fracture of his back and only resumed bowling midway through 2012. However, during his recent spell in Australia he sent down a lot of overs without pain and is eager to build on his form.

"I don't want this to be the highlight of my career, I want to go on to bigger and better things. Hopefully this is just the starting point," he said. "My ultimate aim is to break into the first team and my best chance is to do it in the one-day side, but this has turned a few heads and has given me a good start to the season, which is something I want to continue now."

Andrew McGlashan Assistant Editor Andrew arrived at ESPNcricinfo via Manchester and Cape Town, after finding the assistant editor at a weak moment as he watched England's batting collapse in the Newlands Test. Andrew began his cricket writing as a freelance covering Lancashire during 2004 when they were relegated in the County Championship. In fact, they were top of the table when he began reporting on them but things went dramatically downhill. He likes to let people know that he is a supporter of county cricket, a fact his colleagues will testify to and bemoan in equal quantities.
