Stuart Broad and Graeme Swann have both been made available for Nottinghamshire in the Yorkshire Bank 40 final on September 21.

Broad and Swann were both rested from England's ODI series against Australia but could play one final match this summer if Notts decide to select them for the Lord's showpiece against Glamorgan.

The issue of selecting England players for county duty is a contentious one. Swann has only played twice in the YB40 this season while Broad did not appear in the group stages or semi-final. But both players have been included in a 15-man squad for the final and will travel to Durham next week for Notts' penultimate County Championship match to train alongside their team-mates.

In 2007, Warwickshire declined to select Ian Bell when he was released by England for their Friends Provident semi-final with Hampshire and there is a school of thought that it is only fair in high profile matches to stick with the players who regularly appear for their county.

Swann's two appearances in the YB40 both came in victories in Group A at the start of May. He sent down seven overs for just 15 runs and also removed Steven Crook as Notts easily defended 287 against Northamptonshire at Wantage Road. Three days later he went wicketless but his eight over spell cost only 24 as Kent were restricted to 220 for 6. Notts went on to win via the Duckworth-Lewis method.

Notts finished top of Group A before brushing aside Somerset in the semi-final at Trent Bridge. They are highly fancied to beat Glamorgan at Lord's.

A professional mentality will be adopted & Swann & Broad will play. They are world class performers on the big stage and a manager would be called to account by his bosses should he not select them and then watch the team lose. Yes it would be nice to keep the same side together but put yourself in the manager's position = his job is to select an eleven who will win next Saturday. Notts lose out when players get called up for international duty - it makes perfect sense to play them when they are available. The bigger and more important issue perhaps is whether the ECB should give earlier indications of when players should be available. Hoping for good weather & a final to remember

@markatnotts on (September 15, 2013, 7:58 GMT) re my previous message which has not been published yet - apologies for not reading your follow up response properly. I'm not against the 2 adding to Notts strength - I just feel it's wrong on those who got them there and Broad/Swann would serve themselves and Notts better if they played in a CC game each. There are examples where teams have recalled Eng players for the showcase days but also there was the example 2 or 3 years ago when Hants stuck with the side that got them to T20 finals day and I'd say Notts are in a much stronger position going into finals day without Broad and Swann than Hants would have been going into finals day without KP

It good that they keep playing - it will keep them sharper.

For those like Wharfseamer who keep whittling on about the ODIs - stop being so self-righteous. You make a typically uneducated point.

True fans will support whatever side is put out. The packed crowd yesterday certainly seemed to enjoy themselves.

Where on earth did I state that an overseas player was going to turn up just for this final? I was referring to previous years, and this was never raised. Quite rightly Notts and Glamorgan won't be doing this. But if Hussey got injured we shouldn't be bringing in someone else for the sake of it.

@markatnotts - Who is the overseas player that is likely to be drafted in - I guess folk (if you include me) don't mention it because we are not aware. But aren't teams only allowed to field 1 overseas player in a YB40 game anyway? I believe Notts overseas player is Hussey and Glamorgan's is North. If one overseas player is replacing another because it's a selection decision then I think it's similarly unfair on North/Hussey. If North or Hussey are unavailable then I don't see it as an issue as you're not taking anyone else out of the side. Don't see why Swann and Broad can't each play one of the CC games. Important for different reasons AND they won't be taking the place of a player who has got them to the final.

And not one person here as mentioned the issue of overseas players arriving about a week before such finals days and parachuting into the team.

I'm sorry I have to disagree with other comments here. I have seen other teams play their key England players at T20 finals day and the one day final in previous years. I know it is hard luck on the ones that miss out but that has been the case before. I don't why it is only a big story when Notts are involved. As for the comment about the England ODI's, anyone buying tickets should have been aware England were going to try out some new players. I predicted so back as last year when tickets went on sale. Indeed SA often do this, you have to bring on the new players. If you don't like it don't pay the inflated prices.

@Robster1 on (September 13, 2013, 22:57 GMT) I kind of like the idea of Eng players playing for their counties but agree with the rest of the comms. They have done little to help Notts get to the final and it would be grossly unfair on anyone who has to make way. Why not play them in one of the CC fixtures whereby they can help Notts , get a proper workout , without stealing acolades which belong to other players?

Very good news indeed for the county game - the more that England players are available the better. Well done, for once, the ECB. Let's see more of this.

Would be pretty harsh on the 2 that will have to miss out if these guys play, I think Notts will just stick to the side that just thrashed Somerset.
