Having stepped down, on health grounds, as Warwickshire CCC's chief executive some months beforehand, David Heath succumbed to kidney failure on June 13. Born in Hall Green on Dec 14, 1931, he was cricket and rugby captain at Moseley Grammar School, and at 16 he scored a century for Warwickshire Amateurs v Staffordshire. A year later, when only 17, he made his first-class county debut, and during RAF service he represented Combined Services and scored his only first-class century, 149 v Worcs at New Road, 1951. He played only 19 matches in all before business claimed him, his 580 runs coming at 21.48, but he captained Moseley to seven Birmingham League titles, and later became president of the League. Further administrative involvement led to his appointment as A. C. Smith's successor as Warwickshire's secretary/chief executive when Mr Smith took up his TCCB position in 1986. David Michael William Heath was 62 at the time of his death.
