Liam Hughes' career was threatened early when, in 2005, he suffered a stress fracture to his back. Derbyshire's medical staff helped his recovery, he has since altered the way he bowls by becoming a line-and-length bowler who hits the seam. He is also an aggressive hitter down the order and has put in some useful all-round performances at second XI level in 2006 and 2007.
