Troughton ton secures batting points
Warwickshire 353 for 4 (Troughton 138*, Trott 65) drew with Northamptonshire 407 for 8 dec
Jim Troughton's 138 enabled Warwickshire to collect some useful batting points on the final day of their rain-hit Championship match against Northamptonshire. There was no agreement over trying to make a game of it and the home side lost just one wicket to finish on 353 for 4.
Troughton was given a life in the opening over when Rob White dropped a chance in the slips and went onto reach his first century of the season off 197 balls. He added 148 for the fourth wicket with Jonathan Trott, who supplied 65 before being removed by Johan van der Wath. White was given a chance to make partial amends by grabbing the edge.
Tony Frost then accompanied Troughton for the remainder of the day, as the pair added an unbeaten 121 for the fifth wicket. Nicky Boje plugged away throughout, sending down 33 overs, but couldn't add to the one wicket he took back on the second evening.
The result leaves Warwickshire in second place, six points ahead of Northamptonshire in third as they chase promotion to the first division.
