Hampshire have been handed a two-point pitch penalty after the pitch produced for the Friends Provident t20 match against Somerset, at The Rose Bowl, was deemed to be "poor" by an ECB pitch panel.
The club will be docked those points from the 2011 competition so it won't effect their chances of reaching the knockout stages this year.
The pitch in question produced a low-scoring, tight match where Somerset managed to defend 104 as Hampshire suffered an extraordinary late collapse as they lost six wickets for four runs. Batting was a tough prospect throughout with uneven bounce being the main concern on a relaid wicket.
After considering the pitch reports of the umpires and after interviewing them, the captain and coach of both teams and the Hampshire head groundsman, the panel upheld the umpires' decision that the pitch had demonstrated excessive unevenness and should therefore be rated "poor".

I seem to be a minority person that likes to see the batsmen work for their runs. A nice uneven pitch helps to swing it back towards the bowlers. A skilled batsman will still score runs regardless of the state of the wicket and it will make a fifty or century that much more of an achievement. No more T20 flat tracks. Bring on some roughness.
Posted by hampshirehog142 on (June 16 2010, 07:54 AM GMT)Pity the people who paid £20 at the gate and an extortionate parking fee beforehand to watch this match. I am beginning to wonder if Hampshire CCC are losing touch with their supporter base. They have not had the expected crowds for their recent 20/20 matches even though KP played on Sunday. Maybe they should reconsider their pricing structure. Why would anybody want to pay that sort of money for a run-of-the-mill 20-over match? Also Hampshire continue to ban their supporters from going on the playing surface at the Rose Bowl between innings. Why? I consider that this is sometimes one of the best parts of a day but the groundstaff obviously do not agree.
