Hampshire 165 for 2 beat Scotland 164 by eight wickets
Scorecard

An impressive bowling display from Chris Wood helped Hampshire to an eight-wicket victory over Scotland in the Clydesdale Bank 40. The 20-year-old left-armer took 4 for 33 as the hosts were all out for 160 in Aberdeen, before half-centuries from Jimmy Adams and Sean Ervine saw the Royals knock off the runs in a little over 31 overs.

Wood was in the action from the start as he dismissed Preston Mommsen in his first over, and Scotland slipped to 55 for 4 as wickets continued to fall. George Bailey offered some resistance with a dashing 41 off 42 balls, but once he was seventh man out, bowled by Wood with the score on 133, there was little left from Scotland. Matthew Parker with 23 was the only other man to pass 20.

James Vince was bowled early on by Gordon Goudie in the Hampshire reply, but that was as good as it got for the hosts. Adams (74 not out) and Ervine (63) came together, adding 121 for the second wicket before the Zimbabwean was out with the team score on 139. Adams and Neil McKenzie guided the south-coast side home without further alarm to keep them in contention for a place in the semi-finals.
