Joe Cox was a brisk medium-pace bowler who was instrumental in Natal winning the Currie Cup for the first time in 1910-11, taking 36 wickets in six matches with a best of 8 for 20 against Transvaal. He toured England for the Trinagular series in 1912 but didn't feature in any of the Tests. His chance came on England's tour in 1913-14, but in three Tests he failed to make any mark. He was a poor fielder and a mediocre tail-end batsman.
