North Zone captain Shikhar Dhawan, with a ton, led his side to a bright start on the first day of the Duleep Trophy quarter-final in Chennai. Following scores of 99*, 152 and 61 in the Challenger Trophy, he scored 101 here in an opening stand of 164. His partner Rahul Dewan scored a half-century, as the duo weren't separated till the 58th over of the day to lay the base for a strong first-innings total. West Zone ended with three wickets - the openers and Sunny Singh, who fell four short of a half-century in the final over of the day.

Fifteen boundaries in Dhawan's innings boosted his strike-rate to 56, the highest among all batsmen. His departure - he was stumped off offspinner Kamlesh Makwana - was followed by his partner Dewan's dismissal, also off the same bowler, seven overs later. A third-wicket stand of 76 between Sunny Singh and Nitin Saini looked to see them through to the close before Singh was caught behind in the 90th over, as the day ended.

Left-arm spinner Harmeet Singh, who was part of the India Under-19 squad that won the World Cup in Australia, was the most expensive of all the bowlers, with an economy rate of 4.16 in his 18 overs.

Dhawan's batting style resembles another flat track bully Sangakkara's.

Yah definitely the U19 players have not been tested enough. The A -team players in NZ are a better idea. Pujura , Vijay, Dhawan, Bist, Rahane from local recent games. Mukund, Menaria, Rayudu, Mandeep from NZ games. Chand from U19 only.

Shikar Dhawan seems to score runs only in India. he was a disaster on India A's tour to West Indies and India's tour to West Indies in 2011. His success until now is confined to the IPL and Indian domestic cricket where bowling is quite pedestrian and the pitches a graveyard for the bowlers. these hundreds can never be used as a yardstick to select Indian teams. Sporting pitches need to be prepared for domestic rricket

contd.....Harmeet was nt considered in playing 11 till asia cup, it was 2 bad matches for vikas mishra that harmeet got in, otherwise vikas mishra, ankit chavan, iqbal abdulla are far supirior bowler than harmeet, He was badly hit in challanger trophy, Rest of india 1st inn no wkt. 2nd inning favoured by Chateshwar Pujara to get the tail wickets,

i think selectors has overrated harmeet singh nd sm of u19 players. Unmukt is an exceptional to others.1st of all v sd understand Duleep Trophy players sd b selected on the basis of Ranji Trophy performance. Harmeet is not even part of Mumbai Ranji squad, hw selectors can select him for Rest of India, challanger trophy nd Duleep Trophy, Even Smit Patel is selected, Smit patel has not even played single Ranji Trophy Match for Gujrat, Harmeet, Baba aprajit, Sandeep Sharma hs not played even single match of one day trophy( Deodhar Trophy) for their own states, they selected for India A nd India B, I dnt understand Logic, Even what is track record of Kaustubh Pawar, in Mar 12 he total flop for Duleep Trophy along with Khadiwale, where as Khadiwali was dropped but kaustubh pawar was selected, Why kedar jadhav was selected in Duleep Trophy, where as last Duleep trophy in Mar, he was nt part bcoz he didnt perform well in Ranji 2011/12, So no logic, Selectors appears to please every1, GD LUCK.
