Peter Hearn, a left-hand top-order batsman, was a regular presence in the Kent side in the decade after World War Two but struggled to consistently hold down a place. He passed 1000 runs in a season three times but as his career average showed he lacked the ability to put together a run of good scores. This was best highlighted in 1953 when he made three of his seven first-class hundreds interspersed with runs of low scores. A century in the season opener was followed by a poor sequence which saw him dropped; brought back after several weeks sidelined he retained his place, hit two more tons in between low scores and finished the summer with a pair against the Australians. Hearn bowled occasional slow-left arm and played his club cricket for Tunbridge Wells.
