Martin Vernon was a tall right-arm fast-medium opening bowler who made a good impression in his first season at Middlesex (1974) with 20 wickets at 29.80 but fell away over the next two seasons. He moved to Gloucestershire in 1977 but had no more luck there and was released at the end of the summer.
