Richard McInnes was appointed as the Australian team's performance analyst following an in-depth review after the 2005 Ashes defeat. McInnes had been working for the Centre of Excellence as a senior coach before his promotion to John Buchanan's side and he quickly became a key member of the backroom staff. He is primarily responsible for coordinating the squad's video analysis and computer software operations but also helps with training.
Before joining the Centre of Excellence McInnes spent two years in Bangladesh, where he coached the national under-19 and A sides and helped set up the country's high performance centre. An allrounder for Norths, University and Sunshine Coast in the Brisbane grade competition, McInnes moved into coaching while at university and looked after both the Queensland Country and Queensland Fire squads before heading overseas.
