George John was a renowned opening fast bowler from Trinidad who excelled on the 1923 West Indies tour of England, bu which time he was 40, when he took 49 wickets at 19.51, including a career-best 7 for 52 against Glamorgan. In all matches on the tour he took 90 wickets at 14.68. He had made his first-class debut in 1909-10 and was robbed of his best years by the war.
