  • Overs 51-100
24.5

Broad to Tendulkar, 4 byes, Aha, Broad was taken in by the gravity of the moment. Sends down five harmless byes well down the leg side.

24.6

Broad to Tendulkar, no run, short ball angling into the ribs, the little man stands tall and nudges ot down to the leg side.

India 81/2   SR Tendulkar 0* (2b)
26.1

Broad to Tendulkar, 2 runs, Sachin is away, nice languid check drive into the covers as Broad floats it full outside off. Eased into the gaps, and they get an easy two. Sachin refuses the third.

26.2

Broad to Tendulkar, no run, shortens the length outside off, Sachin gets across and shoulders arms to let it go through.

26.3

Broad to Tendulkar, no run, well bowled by Broad, he's settled into a nice rhythm here. This one angled in and straightened from middle and leg, to meet the broad SRT bat as he reached forward confidently.

26.4

Broad to Tendulkar, no run, you won't hear a louder 'Ooh' at Lord's! Sachin is beaten outside the off stump by a lively legcutter that jumps up and goes away from a length. Had to play at it, but even he wasn't good enough to edge it.

26.5

Broad to Tendulkar, 4 runs, drama! Broad is livid. Pietersen is livid with Broad! Sachin has four, thanks to an overthrow. Good length on off stump, he leans out and pats it to Pietersen at covers. KP runs in and flings it at the stumps, though SRT wasn't looking for a single. The throw is wild and runs away, past a diving attempt from Tremlett at fine leg. The occasion is getting to everybody!

26.6

Broad to Tendulkar, no run, back to mundane defence, Sachin is assured on the half forward push and defends to the off side.

India 91/2   SR Tendulkar 6* (8b)
27.4

Tremlett to Tendulkar, no run, steepling bounce from Tremlett, that's what he is known to produce, but too short and too wide to trouble Sachin this time.

27.5

Tremlett to Tendulkar, no run, iffy moment, that one kept a touch low too from just short of a length, and hit the toe end of Sachin's bat as he played back to it. It seemed to be rolling back towards the stumps area, but he stops it.

27.6

Tremlett to Tendulkar, FOUR, there are replays of this shot from Sachin's Manchester century in 1990. The back-foot punch that he plays like no one else can. This was not even that short, and he had almost no room to work with. Yet Sachin stood tall and managed to generate bat speed that defies the laws of physics. A thing of beauty, and brutality, at the same time.

India 96/2   SR Tendulkar 10* (11b 1x4)
29.1

Tremlett to Tendulkar, no run, another immense 'Ooh' from the crowd as Sachin plays and misses. Loose shot, looks to stay beside the line and steer from outside off, not much intent in that shot, it wasn't there for runs with such a packed cordon.

29.2

Tremlett to Tendulkar, 1 no ball, he over-steps this time, Sachin lets it go outside off easily

29.2

Tremlett to Tendulkar, no run, short of a length outside off, Sachin stays back, covers the line and defends.

29.3

Tremlett to Tendulkar, no run, Play and a miss. Exquisite, says Alan Wilkins. Unplayable says Wasim Akram. He should know. Tremlett gets this to shape in and go away from outside off, Sachin pokes forward and it goes away missing the outside egde. Even Prior fumbles this beaut.

29.4

Tremlett to Tendulkar, no run, this one comes in, nice stuff from Tremlett. Sachin stays back and looks to defend and is hit high on the pad.

29.5

Tremlett to Tendulkar, no run, this is another dimension to Tremlett, not over-doing the bouncer, using the seam well. Only 130 kph, fullish length and away movement. Much tougher to face, coming from six feet five. Sachin looks to push tentatively and misses.

29.6

Tremlett to Tendulkar, no run, end of a testing over, ends with a wide delivery well outside off, Sachin easily lets this one go.

India 101/2   SR Tendulkar 10* (18b 1x4)
30.4

Trott to Tendulkar, no run, Trott's getting a little bit of mischievous away movement in the air. Sachin spots it and pushes out to play it into the covers.

30.5

Trott to Tendulkar, no run, he's rolling his fingers over this balls, looking for the one that goes away, Sachin leans out to punch to mid-on.

30.6

Trott to Tendulkar, no run, short of a length on off stump to end the over, Sachin defends from the crease.

India 102/2   SR Tendulkar 10* (21b 1x4)
32.1

Anderson to Tendulkar, FOUR, Sachin starts off with a boundary, part edged, part steered past the slips, with complete control. Anderson moved it away as he always does, Sachin covered it and got it away through third man.

32.2

Anderson to Tendulkar, no run, full toss, must have overcooked it, low on middle and off, Sachin check drives to mid-on, he was taken a bit by surprise too.

32.3

Anderson to Tendulkar, no run, back of a length, cutting in a short, Sachin presses forward and defends off the inner half.

32.4

Anderson to Tendulkar, no run, lovely delivery, Anderson gets it to jump up from short of a length, Sachin presses forward and looks to defend, but realises it is out of his range and holds the bat inside the line.

32.5

Anderson to Tendulkar, FOUR, poor ball, sublime shot. Anderson drops it on his pads, perhaps losing his line due to the slope, and Sachin wrists him away off the pads off the back foot. No one in place to cut it off.

32.6

Anderson to Tendulkar, no run, firm punch, Sachin gets forward to a full ball and sends it packing towards mid-off where Tremlett does well to move to the right and stop it.

India 110/2   SR Tendulkar 18* (27b 3x4)
33.3

Tremlett to Tendulkar, no run, that steepling bounce again from Tremlett, but it starts from too far wide of the off stump. Sachin leaves easily.

33.4

Tremlett to Tendulkar, FOUR, Beauty. Sachin laces Tremlett on the up through covers, just purrs into position like a well-calibrated Rolls Royce engine and coaxes the length ball through the covers. He opened the wrists while driving to ensure he found the gap.

33.5

Tremlett to Tendulkar, no run, straighter this time, Sachin again eases into position to defend down the track.

33.6

Tremlett to Tendulkar, 1 no ball, straight and full, Sachin's well awake after lunch, and defends easily. Tremlett oversteps again.

33.6

Tremlett to Tendulkar, no run, angled in from wide of the crease, short of a length, Sachin is compact in back foot defence.

India 116/2   SR Tendulkar 22* (32b 4x4)
35.1

Tremlett to Tendulkar, no run, full ball from Tremlett, Sachin is so assured with his footwork today and again pushes it nicely towards mid-off.

35.2

Tremlett to Tendulkar, FOUR, time to bring a third man in. Sachin guides Tremlett from the off stump line past the cordon for another boundary. Short of a length, not much bounce, and Sachin had no problems in angling the face and sending it scurrying through.

35.3

Tremlett to Tendulkar, 1 run, on the pads this time, Sachin nudges through square leg for one more.

India 125/2   SR Tendulkar 27* (35b 5x4)
36.1

Anderson to Tendulkar, FOUR, the second time he's done this today, Sachin stands as tall as he can and redirects a slightly short ball, slightly wide of off stump through cover-point. How does he do it?

36.2

Anderson to Tendulkar, 1 run, on the hips this time, Sachin works it around through square leg for a single.

India 130/2   SR Tendulkar 32* (37b 6x4)
37.1

Tremlett to Tendulkar, no run, short from Tremlett, Sachin hangs back and forces the defensive stroke to the leg side. Leg slip watches keenly.

37.2

Tremlett to Tendulkar, 1 leg bye, too straight at 136.5 kph, Sachin looks to nudge through square leg, and it goes off the pad.

37.5

Tremlett to Tendulkar, no run, another leg side ball, this time too far down and Sachin lets it go.

37.6

Tremlett to Tendulkar, no run, poor, poor shot. Sachin will be admonishing himself internally big time here. Short of a length, buzzing away late from well outside off, Sachin stays planted on the crease and tries to wave the wand at it. He doesn't touch it.

India 138/2   SR Tendulkar 32* (41b 6x4)
39.1

Tremlett to Tendulkar, no run, short and a bit of extra bounce from outside off, Sachin was not going to play at it.

39.2

Tremlett to Tendulkar, no run, good ball that, at 127 kph, angles in as Sachin reaches out to defend and it runs off the inside half of the blade to the leg side.

39.3

Tremlett to Tendulkar, no run, short ball angling down the leg side, Sachin shoulders arms and it goes off the hips down the leg side. Prior collects and appeals. Sunny Gavaskar says it shows how desperate they are for his wicket.

39.4

Tremlett to Tendulkar, no run, another good ball, nips away off the threads this time and again that extra bounce Tremlett always manages. Sachin holds the bat inside the line.

39.5

Tremlett to Tendulkar, no run, hmm, fish and a miss. Every now and then, Sachin's playing a false stroke. Short of a length outside off, unless Tremlett has bowled many indippers, this is not a ball to be played at. But Sachin does, and misses.

39.6

Tremlett to Tendulkar, no run, really good over from Tremlett, finishes with another one that goes away, Sachin covers the line well this time and steers towards gully.

India 150/2   SR Tendulkar 32* (47b 6x4)
40.5

Swann to Tendulkar, no run, on a length to Sachin, who is reluctant to come forward and defends cautiously.

40.6

Swann to Tendulkar, no run, flights the last ball generously, Sachin presses forward to defend it solidly

India 151/2   SR Tendulkar 32* (49b 6x4)
41.2

Tremlett to Tendulkar, no run, again Sachin, curiously, stays back to a length ball but deals with it well in the end. Defended to the leg side as it angles in towards middle and off.

41.3

Tremlett to Tendulkar, no run, fuller, a touch too wide of the off stump at 128 kph, Sachin doesn't play this time.

41.4

Tremlett to Tendulkar, no run, angles in towards the pads this time, Sachin looks to work it to the leg side and keeps it down. Bell is prowling at short leg.

41.5

Tremlett to Tendulkar, no run, four inches, may be five between the ball and off stump! Sachin shoulders arms daringly to a short of length ball outside off that holds its line and whistles past.

41.6

Tremlett to Tendulkar, 2 runs, where did that come from? 136 kph, over-pitched outside off and shaping away, Sachin is foxed by the subtle change in line and length, he reaches for it without getting across and scoops the drive in the air over the covers. The nervous Lord's 30s for Sachin, possibly.

India 154/2   SR Tendulkar 34* (54b 6x4)
43.1

Broad to Tendulkar, no run, full and floated wide of off stump and it shapes away. Sachin sees it closely and lets it go.

43.2

Broad to Tendulkar, no run, this time Sachin goes for it, leans out to the pitch and drives in wholesome style, but there is protection in the covers.

43.3

Broad to Tendulkar, no run, wide of off stump and angling further away, Sachin doesn't play at it this time.

43.4

Broad to Tendulkar, OUT, there's anguish at Lord's, even for the most ardent England fans, and they then begin to do their polite clapping routine. Sachin is out in the 30s again, at the home of cricket. Broad does it yet again with a fuller ball, one wonders why he even bothered with that bumper overdose. Lovely delivery, full and inviting outside off, swerving away slyly. Sachin walks into the trap, literally, driving away from the body and the edge flies low to the left of Swann crouching forward at second slip. Well taken. No 100th 100 yet. He made only 34, but boy, were they exquisite.
