England v India

England won by 196 runs

Overs 1-50  | Overs 51-100

50.1

Swann to Laxman, no run, Laxman is denied a boundary thanks to Cook's knee at short leg. Pull shot was slammed into him

50.2

Swann to Laxman, no run, quietly forward in defence

50.3

Swann to Laxman, no run, nicely bowled, just dipped on Laxman as he leant forward to whip to leg. Bobbled up off the pads to cover

50.4

Swann to Laxman, no run, this slides on with the arm, attacking the outside edge but Laxman is solid

50.5

Swann to Laxman, no run, pushed through a touch quicker, Laxman strokes to extra cover

50.6

Swann to Laxman, no run, very good maiden over from Swann. Looks a notch above the other spinners we've seen this game

End of over 51 (maiden) India 169/3
VVS Laxman    1* (21b)      GP Swann    6-2-13-0
R Dravid    50* (101b 10x4)      SCJ Broad    12-5-26-3

51.1

Broad to Dravid, no run, this is the fifth over of Broad's spell. Starts outside off stump, too far to interest Dravid

51.2

Broad to Dravid, no run, again it's a touch too wide to draw Dravid into something injudicious

51.3

Broad to Dravid, no run, three in a row too wide and again Dravid lifts his bat above his head. More out of ritual than necessity

51.4

Broad to Dravid, no run, angled in and attacking the stumps this time. Dravid has to hurry his defence

51.5

Broad to Dravid, 1 run, outswinging half-volley is sweetly timed towards cover, needs a combined effort of Morgan diving to parry and Cook cleaning up, to do the fielding

51.6

Broad to Laxman, no run, cautious and careful defence to close out the over

End of over 52 (1 run) India 170/3
VVS Laxman    1* (22b)      SCJ Broad    13-5-27-3
R Dravid    51* (106b 10x4)      GP Swann    6-2-13-0

52.1

Swann to Dravid, no run, Dravid is keen to play back to Swann and try and pierce the off side but this cramps him

52.2

Swann to Dravid, 1 run, easy for the batsman this time as Swann loses his line, Dravid rolls his wrists over the ball to send it to short fine leg

52.3

Swann to Laxman, no run, flatter from Swann but Laxman is untroubled

52.4

Swann to Laxman, no run, good delivery this one, slower to follow the quicker ball, spins a touch and finds the pads as Laxman plays forward

Stat from Nitin: "Top two run-getters in Tests are playing together in the same team. The last time it happened was with Clem Hill and Victor Trumper in 1912"

52.5

Swann to Laxman, FOUR, ah, lovely batting. Intricate placement, as Laxman just opened the face on a drive to beat the infield. Perfect timing made it into four

52.6

Swann to Laxman, 1 run, dragged down short from Swann, probably got stuck in the hand. Laxman wheels it to fine leg

End of over 53 (6 runs) India 176/3
VVS Laxman    6* (26b 1x4)      GP Swann    7-2-19-0
R Dravid    52* (108b 10x4)      SCJ Broad    13-5-27-3

53.1

Broad to Laxman, no run, swing for Broad, but not a great line

53.2

Broad to Laxman, no run, and again Broad is too far outside off stump to interest Laxman, or anyone else

53.3

Broad to Laxman, 1 bye, Prior does well to catch up with this, diving down the leg side

53.4

Broad to Dravid, 1 run, Pietersen out at deep point so Dravid can happily take a single steering in that direction

53.5

Broad to Laxman, no run, play and a miss! Loose shot, but they always look loose if you miss them. Full and inviting, swinging away and ghosting past the edge

53.6

Broad to Laxman, no run, Laxman follows the play-and-miss with a languid and stylish leave

End of over 54 (2 runs) India 178/3
VVS Laxman    6* (31b 1x4)      SCJ Broad    14-5-28-3
R Dravid    53* (109b 10x4)      GP Swann    7-2-19-0

54.1

Swann to Dravid, no run, Dravid on the cut again, toe-ends back to the bowler. Probably the bowler who got away with things though

54.2

Swann to Dravid, no run, once again Dravid is cutting, but again with the toe-end. Swann just a touch short the last couple of overs

54.3

Swann to Dravid, no run, this remains back of a perfect length but better. Dravid solid in defence

54.4

Swann to Dravid, no run, more air on this and it draws Dravid forward to defend

54.5

Swann to Dravid, no run, hint on inside edge as Dravid works this to midwicket

54.6

Swann to Dravid, no run, picture perfect defence to end the over. Swann's third maiden in eight overs, Harbhajan managed three in 35

End of over 55 (maiden) India 178/3
R Dravid    53* (115b 10x4)      GP Swann    8-3-19-0
VVS Laxman    6* (31b 1x4)      SCJ Broad    14-5-28-3

Broad gets a breather after an excellent spell of 6-3-3-1 that could have, should have, had two more wickets. Here's Tremlett.

55.1

Tremlett to Laxman, no run, starts with a cracker. Hits the deck at a good length and zips it away past Laxman's dangling outside edge

55.2

Tremlett to Laxman, no run, Laxman hanging back and Tremlett finds a good line and length again

55.3

Tremlett to Laxman, FOUR, anywhere near the pads and Laxman gets to unleash his perfect timing. Barely touched it and it pinged to the boundary at midwicket

55.4

Tremlett to Laxman, no run, Tremlett's response is to drag his length back a touch. Laxman looks comfortable now

55.5

Tremlett to Laxman, OUT, absolute bonus for England! Laxman has gifted his wicket. Nothing delivery from Tremlett but Laxman flicked it off his hip in the air, straight to deep backwards square. Strange dismissal but Strauss especially will be delighted

VVS Laxman c Trott b Tremlett 10 (46m 36b 2x4 0x6) SR: 27.77

I'm stunned by that and I apologise to Laxman fans for putting the jinx on him. He just timed it too well I guess. Huge job for Suresh Raina now, but he should enjoy the conditions.

Nitin has the explanation for how that happened, " Rajesh: Laxman's scores in the first Test of his last three series - 7, 8, 12, 0, 10 - Centurion, Jamaica and Lord's". Ah.

55.6

Tremlett to Raina, no run, Raina gets a sighter first up as Tremlett shoves this across him

End of over 56 (4 runs) India 182/4
SK Raina    0* (1b)      CT Tremlett    17-4-55-1
R Dravid    53* (115b 10x4)      GP Swann    8-3-19-0

56.1

Swann to Dravid, 1 run, worked into space for a single, could easily have been two but there you go. Raina the left-hander vs Swann now

Silly point, short leg and slip in place.

56.2

Swann to Raina, OUT, can't review that! Swann loves a left-hander! Raina gets deep into his crease and misses an attempted work-to-leg, it just slipped on to him quicker than expected and struck him in front. Replays show it clipping leg stump, India in real bother now

SK Raina lbw b Swann 0 (3m 2b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00

Well, Dhoni has had to keep wicket, bowl, captain but now he needs to help haul his team out of trouble. 92 runs more for the follow on target, that's got to be the main task for the moment.

56.3

Swann to Dhoni, no run, big "oooh" from the close fielders as Dhoni steps forward into a defence

56.4

Swann to Dhoni, no run, Swann has Dhoni groping forward to push to mid-off

56.5

Swann to Dhoni, no run, Dhoni gets back this time and crisply punches a defence to mid-off. He's going very hard at the ball

56.6

Swann to Dhoni, no run, quietly defended to end another good over for England

End of over 57 (1 run) India 183/5
MS Dhoni    0* (4b)      GP Swann    9-3-20-1
R Dravid    54* (116b 10x4)      CT Tremlett    17-4-55-1

Tremlett will be pleased the left-hander has gone, seems to prefer bowling to the right-handers.

57.1

Tremlett to Dravid, no run, steams in this delivery but it's outside off stump and left alone. Plenty depends on Dravid now, probably just the way he likes it

57.2

Tremlett to Dravid, no run, big grunt from Tremlett as he delivers. Decent line outside off but Dravid won't be drawn into a shot

57.3

Tremlett to Dravid, no run, good delivery this one, corrected the line and forced Dravid to block his off stump

57.4

Tremlett to Dravid, no run, excellent delivery, fuller and nipping away off the deck. Dravid definitely poked at it but luckily for him it moved too far

57.5

Tremlett to Dravid, no run, again Tremlett heads full, trying desperately to draw Dravid into a stroke but the batsman has none of it

57.6

Tremlett to Dravid, no run, poor delivery to end a good over, shoved down the leg side

End of over 58 (maiden) India 183/5
R Dravid    54* (122b 10x4)      CT Tremlett    18-5-55-1
MS Dhoni    0* (4b)      GP Swann    9-3-20-1

58.1

Swann to Dhoni, no run, skids on to Dhoni, keeping low as he plays back

58.2

Swann to Dhoni, no run, this time Dhoni gets forward and looks all the more solid for it

58.3

Swann to Dhoni, no run, quick hands flash a cut to point but he remains pinned on zero

58.4

Swann to Dhoni, no run, Swann invites him out of the crease with the offer of flight, but Dhoni remains in place and nudges to leg

58.5

Swann to Dhoni, no run, spin for Swann as Dhoni plays back here. Almost squeezed through but Dhoni flicked to leg in time

58.6

Swann to Dhoni, FOUR, now he's away and away in style. Hangs back and laces a cut through the infield and away for four

End of over 59 (4 runs) India 187/5
MS Dhoni    4* (10b 1x4)      GP Swann    10-3-24-1
R Dravid    54* (122b 10x4)      CT Tremlett    18-5-55-1

59.1

Tremlett to Dravid, 1 no ball, another no ball from Tremlett. Saker will be in his ear this evening. Not sure what he can do to change things though

59.1

Tremlett to Dravid, 1 run, just a little bit too straight from the bowler and Dravid tucks a single to leg

"It's really bothering to see the Indian batting collapse. Dhoni has to play his natural game and attack." Well, er, 'cricfan_aus', as long as you don't blame him if he slaps a catch to mid-off. I think Dhoni would be better served taking his time...

59.2

Tremlett to Dhoni, no run, good delivery from Tremlett to Dhoni, zips away from a length and past the outside edge

59.3

Tremlett to Dhoni, no run, if Dhoni is at all concerned he doesn't look it. Coolly defends as if he was in the park

59.4

Tremlett to Dhoni, no run, Tremlett ventures fuller but Dhoni remains unconcerned

59.5

Tremlett to Dhoni, no run, in a different mood Dhoni could have had a dart at this, it was very full. Instead patted gently back to the bowler

59.6

Tremlett to Dhoni, no run, quiet defence from Dhoni, well-advised, too

End of over 60 (2 runs) India 189/5
MS Dhoni    4* (15b 1x4)      CT Tremlett    19-5-57-1
R Dravid    55* (124b 10x4)      GP Swann    10-3-24-1

60.1

Swann to Dravid, no run, Swann has just been a touch short to Dravid and allows the batsman to cut him away to point

60.2

Swann to Dravid, no run, nicely bowled with more air and nicely played, with, dare I say it, soft hands

60.3

Swann to Dravid, no run, nudged to leg with the spin

60.4

Swann to Dravid, no run, very watchful from Dravid, blocking back to the bowler. Nods to Swann to confirm it was a good ball

60.5

Swann to Dravid, FOUR, lovely shot, really good from Dravid. Presses forward before rocking back and easing a cut shot through cover for four. Swann doesn't nod his respect, he's very annoyed

60.6

Swann to Dravid, no run, Dravid reaches for the textbook and delivers perfect defence

End of over 61 (4 runs) India 193/5
R Dravid    59* (130b 11x4)      GP Swann    11-3-28-1
MS Dhoni    4* (15b 1x4)      CT Tremlett    19-5-57-1

Last over before the Tea break and Jimmy Anderson will have it. He's been a touch expensive today.

61.1

Anderson to Dhoni, no run, Dhoni will be delighted that he gets a sighter outside off stump

61.2

Anderson to Dhoni, no run, hint of swing away from the bat but Dhoni has everything behind his defensive block

61.3

Anderson to Dhoni, no run, swinging half-volley that Dhoni only taps back down the ground. Broad dives well to field from mid-on

61.4

Anderson to Dhoni, no run, shorter in length from Anderson but Dhoni's approach remains solid

61.5

Anderson to Dhoni, no run, another crunching defence to cover

61.6

Anderson to Dhoni, no run, good grief! What was that from Dhoni!? Last ball of the session and he decides to shimmy down the wicket - edged it, but luckily for him it was short of slip

Tea Excellent afternoon session, first time the game has really matched its blockbuster billing. Dravid and Tendulkar started wonderfully, unfurling a clutch a classy shots before Stuart Broad intervened with his best spell in ages. Aiming full, swinging it away, he ripped up the script and dismissed Tendulkar before having both Dravid and Laxman, Dravid and Laxman, dropped in at slip in one over. Tremlett was lucky as Laxman failed to capitalise, Swann was rewarded for a probing spell with Raina's wicket and The Wall remained unbreached. Sidarth's report will be well worth a read. Liam will start comms after tea.

End of over 62 (maiden) India 193/5
MS Dhoni    4* (21b 1x4)      JM Anderson    17-4-67-0
R Dravid    59* (130b 11x4)      GP Swann    11-3-28-1

"I wonder, has a bowler ever had as many big name drops in one over as Stuart Broad did with Dravid and VVS just then?" Good question Jamie. Ask Steven? Meanwhile, Swann is going to go round the wicket to Dravid.

62.1

Swann to Dravid, 1 run, a rubber-wristed whip sends the ball down to fine leg

Slip and forward short leg in place.

Silly point comes in for Dhoni.

62.2

Swann to Dhoni, no run, defended solidly towards mid-on

62.3

Swann to Dhoni, no run, this time Dhoni comes forward to poke defensively at a flighted offspinner

"What's common between Gavaskar, Miandad, Sachin, Lara, Ponting, Gilchrist, Sangakkarra and Kallis? They are all modern greats AND they have combined for exactly ZERO centuries at the Lords. Cumulative stats: 1133 runs at 23.60. Unreal! (I've excluded Dravid from this list as I sense he'd make a 100 today)" Good work from Dinesh Selvaraj.

62.4

Swann to Dhoni, no run, turned gently towards mid-on once more

62.5

Swann to Dhoni, no run, great flight from Swann, Dhoni was stuck on the crease when he might have been forward. Oohs and aahs from the England close fielders

62.6

Swann to Dhoni, 1 run, nudged fine on the leg side for one

End of over 63 (2 runs) India 195/5
MS Dhoni    5* (26b 1x4)      GP Swann    12-3-30-1
R Dravid    60* (131b 11x4)      JM Anderson    17-4-67-0

Stuart Broad to pick things up from the ... end. One of the ends. The opposite one.

63.1

Broad to Dhoni, 1 no ball, ah, and he starts with a no-ball, just over-stepping there

63.1

Broad to Dhoni, no run, well, this one burst off the pitch like a legcutter. Well wide of the batsman, however, and easily left

63.2

Broad to Dhoni, no run, fuller this time, and shaping away through the air. Dhoni steps across and raises his arms to leave

63.3

Broad to Dhoni, no run, another outswinger, another leave. Good work from Prior behind the stumps, the ball kept going after it passed the batsman and dipped too

63.4

Broad to Dhoni, no run, pushed down very wide of off, Dhoni isn't interested in any sort of shot

63.5

Broad to Dhoni, no run, variation from Broad, this looked like the offcutter. Dhoni tapped it to cover and set off for a single, only to be sent back late by Dravid. He's back safely

63.6

Broad to Dhoni, no run, ball hits pad, Broad belts out the double appeal - "aaah AAAH!" - but Asad Rauf says no. Well, that looks like a good decision. Going down leg

End of over 64 (1 run) India 196/5
MS Dhoni    5* (33b 1x4)      SCJ Broad    15-5-29-3
R Dravid    60* (131b 11x4)      GP Swann    12-3-30-1

64.1

Swann to Dravid, no run, looped down from around the wicket, tapped back to the bowler

64.2

Swann to Dravid, no run, whipped with style into the leg side, that languid, leaning shot that Dravid plays so well. Unfortunately, it's aimed right at the fielder

64.3

Swann to Dravid, no run, this time he comes well forward to smother the spin in defence

64.4

Swann to Dravid, 1 run, Dravid shifts forward, then hops back and slaps a cut out into the deep. There's cover out there

64.5

Swann to Dhoni, 1 run, clubbed out through extra cover

64.6

Swann to Dravid, no run, and utterly solid defence to end the over

End of over 65 (2 runs) India 198/5
R Dravid    61* (136b 11x4)      GP Swann    13-3-32-1
MS Dhoni    6* (34b 1x4)      SCJ Broad    15-5-29-3

65.1

Broad to Dhoni, no run, Broad sticks to his line outside off, the ball curving gently away. Left alone

65.2

Broad to Dhoni, no run, more outswing, and Dhoni's patience holds as he leaves once more

65.3

Broad to Dhoni, no run, Broad is maintaining an immaculate seam position here, and finding consistent swing even with this old ball. Still, it's outside off and Dhoni doesn't need to play a shot

65.4

Broad to Dhoni, no run, very full on off stump, Dhoni digs it out into the leg side

65.5

Broad to Dhoni, no run, Broad targets off stump, Dhoni comes forward to defend on the walk

65.6

Broad to Dhoni, no run, tight line once more, would've hit the top of off had Dhoni's defensive bat not been firmly behind it

"Enough about Lord's and centuries. It is getting over romanticized. It is just another cricket ground." Kind of agree with you Arun, but history has imbued it with all sorts of meaning, unlike, say... Cardiff.

End of over 66 (maiden) India 198/5
MS Dhoni    6* (40b 1x4)      SCJ Broad    16-6-29-3

66.4

Swann to Dravid, no run, tossed up on off stump, pushed back to the bowler

66.5

Swann to Dravid, no run, this may have kept a little low, Dravid really jabbed down on it in defence as he played back

66.6

Swann to Dravid, no run, nudged back to the bowler in defence

End of over 67 (4 runs) India 202/5
R Dravid    64* (141b 11x4)      GP Swann    14-3-36-1
MS Dhoni    7* (41b 1x4)      SCJ Broad    16-6-29-3

67.1

Broad to Dhoni, 1 run, the attempted surprise yorker from Broad, Dhoni manages to lay bat on it and the ball flies off the inside edge, down to fine leg

67.2

Broad to Dravid, no run, shaping away from the bat outside off, and Dravid patiently leaves alone

I wonder how people will take this from Paragordius: "Seeing Dhoni over the years it's pretty obvious that cricket doesn't come naturally to him. Neither is his batting natural nor his keeping. He's worked hard tremendously to reach this position. And with such little talent I think he (and Paul Collingwood) has come a long way to captain their respect sides. Though I was surprised to see him bowl yesterday I think that part of cricket came naturally to him."

67.3

Broad to Dravid, 1 run, Broad comes wide on the crease and draws Dravid forward ... that wasn't quite there for the drive but he pushed at it. No major alarms as the ball trickles to cover point

67.4

Broad to Dhoni, no run, slammed down on a length outside off, left alone

67.5

Broad to Dhoni, no run, short of a good length from Broad, but he still finds significant movement off the pitch. Dhoni's bat was safely inside the line

67.6

Broad to Dhoni, 1 run, nurdled into space on the leg side, and they take a quick single

End of over 68 (3 runs) India 205/5
MS Dhoni    9* (45b 1x4)      SCJ Broad    17-6-32-3
R Dravid    65* (143b 11x4)      GP Swann    14-3-36-1

68.1

Swann to Dhoni, 2 runs, swiped up and over mid-on, there's not the greatest timing in the shot, though, and the ball plugs in the outfield

Pietersen had just been brought up from a deep mid-on, so that shot was on even though he didn't time it

68.2

Swann to Dhoni, no run, nudged defensively back down the track

68.3

Swann to Dhoni, no run, more pokey defence from Dhoni

68.4

Swann to Dhoni, FOUR, flighted up outside off, Dhoni steps to it and pushes his hands powerfully through the line of the ball to send it racing through cover. Ungainly, but effective

68.5

Swann to Dhoni, no run, and he follows that up with watchful defence

68.6

Swann to Dhoni, no run, tapped to mid-off, Dhoni on the front foot

End of over 69 (6 runs) India 211/5

R Dravid    65* (143b 11x4)      SCJ Broad    17-6-32-3

69.1

Broad to Dravid, 1 leg bye, Dravid is perhaps just beaten for pace as he shapes to glance to leg, the ball striking him on the pad. Going well down leg, however, and they take a leg bye

69.2

Broad to Dhoni, no run, dug in very short, the ball balloons harmlessly over Dhoni's shoulder as he ducks out of the way

"Point well taken Paragordius : The one thing which comes to him is leadership...which he does better than anyone in the world currently," says Don.

69.3

Broad to Dhoni, no run, movement away from the right-hander through the air and off the pitch, but the line means it's easily left

69.4

Broad to Dhoni, 1 run, Dhoni's weight was back as Broad went full, but he still managed to get a good connection on the drive. It's intercepted at cover, but there's time for a quick single

69.5

Broad to Dravid, no run, Dravid almost falls over his front leg as he over-balances on a leg glance, but lays bat on ball

69.6

Broad to Dravid, no run, Broad aims a yorker at the base of off stump, but it's dug out by Dravid

70.2

Swann to Dhoni, no run, nudged defensively to mid-on, Dhoni stretching well down the pitch to play the shot

70.6

Swann to Dhoni, no run, full outside off and slapped hard back at Swann, who fields on the bounce

"The natural talent is such a made up thing. Read Gladwell and Harsha's recent article." Good point RK, though Gladwell is more a marketing stunt than academic.

"Arun, it's all about romanticizing buddy! What is life without some romance sprinkled on the mundane realities? I am all for romance in sports. Be it Wimbledon, Lords or the Theatre of Dreams!" Aw fetch the tissues for Rohan Bhalerao! And what's this - Jonathan Trott has been handed the ball. Just one slip in place.

71.1

Trott to Dravid, no run, full on off stump, driven into the covers

71.2

Trott to Dravid, FOUR, shot! This is real classy stuff from Dravid. He stepped right to the pitch of a wobbly, floaty half-volley and threaded the ball perfectly through the gap at cover

71.3

71.4

Trott to Dravid, 1 run, turned off the front pad, and a single taken to square leg

71.5

73.4

Trott to Dravid, 1 run, Trott tries to angle this one in, but slips towards leg stump once again and is easily milked for a single

73.5

Trott to Dhoni, no run, Dhoni wasn't quite sure how to deal with this inswinger on a length, and eventually just stood at the crease and thrust his hands at it. Struck on the thigh

75.3

Trott to Dhoni, no run, beaten on the outside edge! Dhoni was forward again and this one just nipped away from him down the slope. Play and miss

Cheers Liam, you've seen out most of those wait-for-the-new-ball overs. Interesting to see who England go with, Tremlett and Anderson are the men in possession but Broad has been the bowler of the day. Suspect Tremlett will still have it though. Dravid has been a giant and together with Dhoni, India have pretty much seen off the follow on threat. Here's Kevin Pietersen.

78.1

Pietersen to Dravid, no run, spin for Pietersen straight away, but it slides down the leg side

78.2

Pietersen to Dravid, 1 run, very short and Dravid drags his pull shot down to long-on

78.3

Pietersen to Dhoni, no run, touch of air on this, spin too. Dhoni stretched to defend and it found an inside edge. Speaking of spinners, I hope you've all read this

78.4

Pietersen to Dhoni, 1 run, knocked away quietly into space

78.5

Pietersen to Dravid, 1 run, Dravid flicks with the spin to exchange strike with Dhoni

79.2

79.3

New ball taken, Jimmy Anderson has it and, as Miller says, "There's a big finish in prospect to a gripping day's play." Three slips lurking...

80.1

Anderson to Dhoni, no run, gentle start to the new ball, outside off stump, Dhoni waves it through

80.2

Anderson to Dhoni, no run, hint of movement, nothing extravagant, Dhoni again happy to leave alone

80.3

Anderson to Dhoni, no run, three in three swing gently away from a line too wide of off to bother Dhoni

80.4

Anderson to Dhoni, no run, better delivery this time, fuller and straighter. Dhoni shaped to defend but probably pulled his bat inside the line

80.5

Anderson to Dhoni, 2 runs, even straighter still this time, finds a thick edge that runs down to third man. About nine England fielders set after it, including Strauss v Cook, it was the vice-captain that got there first...

Chris Tremlett will share the new nut, he's bowled well to the right handers today but has overstepped far too often. There is a man back on the cover boundary, and a short leg. Three slips too. I wonder what the deep cover is there for?

81.1

Tremlett to Dravid, no run, underwhelming start from Tremlett, short and down the leg side

81.2

Tremlett to Dravid, 1 run, similar delivery and this time Dravid connects with his leg-side flick, jogging through for a single

Man comes up for Dhoni, so Strauss was giving him the strike.

81.3

Tremlett to Dhoni, no run, good ball this time, some splice-jarring bounce and Dhoni does well to defend solidly

81.4

Tremlett to Dhoni, no run, similar good line around off stump, but a fuller length would be more dangerous

81.5

Tremlett to Dhoni, 1 run, short ball but not short enough to worry Dhoni, who swivels and pulls gently down to fine leg

81.6

Tremlett to Dravid, no run, left alone easily outside off stump to end another quiet new-ball over. It's only Broad, of the three pacemen, who has regularly threatened today. Who would have wagered that before play?

82.2

Anderson to Dhoni, no run, better ball, much better, and Dhoni either has excellent judgement on a leave or is lucky it ghosted past off stump

82.3

Anderson to Dhoni, no run, beaten outside off stump. Top delivery, full, drawing Dhoni into a tentative poke at fresh air

82.4

Anderson to Dhoni, no run, swing again from a full length, Dhoni watched it carefully though and patted back to the bowler

82.5

Anderson to Dhoni, no run, this time it's a secure leave for Dhoni as Anderson is a fraction too wide and short

82.6

Tremlett to Dravid, 1 run, curiously, this seems to come off the pitch very slowly. Dravid appeared to have an age to knock a single to leg. Maybe he's just in good nick

83.2

Tremlett to Dhoni, no run, good delivery from Tremlett here, fuller, nipping back past the inside edge into Dhoni's midriff

83.3

Tremlett to Dhoni, no run, good full length again and Dhoni walks behind it to defend

83.4

Tremlett to Dhoni, OUT, caught at slip! That's what the new ball was meant to do! Tremlett gets his length right again, finds the outside edge as Dhoni defended tentatively from the crease, Swann tumbled smartly to his left to pouch it safely

Good time to take a wicket, Harbhajan has ability but also has the new ball to face. Whatever he does he'll do it quickly, should be good fun. Looking at the catch again it was a really good take from Swann, it flew through to him.

Harbhajan keeps Tremlett waiting. And waiting....

83.5

Tremlett to Harbhajan Singh, 1 no ball, Tremlett's response is to slam it in short, which means the batsman's tactic worked! Struck the batsman in the midriff as he thought about trying to pull. No ball too, probably caused by Tremlett flying in

83.5

Tremlett to Harbhajan Singh, OUT, Harbhajan goes now! Poor shot really. Back of a length outside off stump, Harbhajan flirted at it with his feet rooted to the crease and only managed to feather an edge

84.2

Anderson to Dravid, FOUR, top shot. It was there for it but Dravid just waited at the last moment to make sure his cut shot went behind point for four

84.3

Anderson to Dravid, 1 run, England have point set on the boundary which means a good delivery from Anderson can be defended quietly and earn a single

84.4

Anderson to Kumar, FOUR, haha, oh dear. Kumar wonders what all the fuss is about. Stand still, eases his hands through the ball and sends it over mid-off for four. Simple

84.5

85.2

I fancy Broad might enjoy a tussle with Kumar.

85.3

Tremlett to Dravid, 1 run, Tremlett goes full to Dravid, good delivery too but it takes more than 'good' to get past Dravid

85.4

Tremlett to Kumar, 1 run, Tremlett was half-way through to celebrating as he saw this yorker homing in on middle but Kumar, backing away, managed to inside edge a hack to fine leg. Great entertainment

85.5
