  • Overs 51-100

Sharma to Swann, no run, full, outside off, straightening, Swann drives, and is beaten. No feet there

Sharma to Swann, no run, jags back in from outside off, but bounces over the stumps. Swann read that well as he left it

Sharma to Swann, no run, the big inswinger, towards off, Swann right behind it

Sharma to Swann, no run, back of a length, hits the bat as opposed to the bat hitting it. No damage done

England 124/8   GP Swann 0* (4b)

Sreesanth to Swann, no run, he's bowled this divine line all day, angling in, shaping away; angling in, shaping away. Once again, comes in lands on a length outside off and deviates. Swann leaves.

Sreesanth to Swann, 1 run, he tries the dream ball, the full outswinger than goes from leg to off. Swann shuffles across and whips it as it straightens through square leg. Not a bad ball, under the circumstances, but nonchalantly played

England 128/8   GP Swann 1* (6b)

Sharma to Swann, FOUR, beautifully played. Ishant has been a little wayward at times today, bowling too straight. He does it again, Swann gets the front foot across and flicks like a subcontinental batsman.

Sharma to Swann, 1 run, well, he is going for his shots, which can't be a bad idea. Ishant angles it into the pads again, Swann clips it in the air, but now Ishant has protection at deep midwicket. Yuvraj fumbles, but keeps it down to a single.

Sharma to Swann, FOUR, take that Ishant! Swann flays a majestic pull, emphatically taken from well outside off and clattered off the front foot through midwicket. Shoddy bowling, this, very short and trying to bully a tail-ender on a track that's offered movement all day. Swann was onto that in a hurry.

Sharma to Swann, no run, he cuts him in half this time, getting a short of length ball to jag back prodigiously. Swann looks to get bat on it, but it keeps coming in and goes between inside edge and the stumps. Dhoni tumbles to the left to stop it.

England 140/8   GP Swann 10* (10b 2x4)

Sreesanth to Swann, 1 run, nicely played. Full and swinging from Sree, Swann leans out to cover the line and guides the drive through the covers for a single.

England 154/8   GP Swann 11* (11b 2x4)

Harbhajan Singh to Swann, no run, I am rubbing my eyes in disbelief. Did I just see Bhajji bowl a doosra? probably not. It came in with an angle from over the wicket and seemed to straighten from middle. Swann defends.,

Harbhajan Singh to Swann, no run, similar ball, overspin on this one, Swan covers the line and defends.

Harbhajan Singh to Swann, no run, shorter and quicker outside off, gets Swann to cut, but cramps him for room. Play and a miss.

Harbhajan Singh to Swann, no run, tossed up generously this time, Swann gets to the flight and defends.

Harbhajan Singh to Swann, FOUR, what a sublime shot! Swann comes out of the crease, eases himself into position as Harbhajan tosses up, and launches it languidly between the bowler and mid-off. Lovely timing.

England 160/8   GP Swann 15* (16b 3x4)

Sreesanth to Swann, no run, that's a good ball, full and swinging from off stump and Swann defends

Sreesanth to Swann, 3 runs, Harbhajan makes the clumsiest effort of the day at gully, and then doesn't run after it, assuming there is someone behind him. Ridiculous. Full and making him play again, Swann squeezes it behind square off the outside half and gets some runs for his effort.

England 164/8   GP Swann 18* (18b 3x4)

Harbhajan Singh to Swann, no run, Hilarious! The batsman attempts the switch-hit. The bowler bowls a doosra. In essence it is a legbreak to a left-handed batsman in the end, pitching outside off. Go explain that to Bradman and the others who played in a different era.

Harbhajan Singh to Swann, 1 run, this time Swann plays it more conventionally, chops a single away to point.

Harbhajan Singh to Swann, no run, tossed up, Swann works it with the spin to the leg side.

Harbhajan Singh to Swann, 1 run, fires in the topspinner on middle and leg, Swann pokes it away to the leg side for another single.

England 169/8   GP Swann 20* (22b 3x4)

Kumar to Swann, no run, full and swinging away from wide of off stump, Swann lets it go.

Kumar to Swann, 1 run, the 50-stand is up in no time! Full on off stump, Swann leans into a guide through the covers. What a stirring fightback!

England 174/8   GP Swann 21* (24b 3x4)

Sharma to Swann, 1 run, short again, outside off, Swann chops it away in front of the slips. Another single.

England 183/8   GP Swann 22* (25b 3x4)

Kumar to Swann, no run, this one nips in from short of a length, Swann manages to defend it into the off side.

Kumar to Swann, 1 run, well played Swann, another big inswinger from PK, he gets his front pad across and works it around the pad to the leg side for a single.

Kumar to Swann, 2 runs, Boy, India are coming apart in spectacular fashion here! Poor anticipation from Abhinav at wide mid-on, Swann tries to drive a full ball uppishly and scoops it in the air. Abhinav was late to move and tumble forward and it landed in front of him. And then a horror throw to give away the overthrow too.

Kumar to Swann, no run, short of a length, good line from PK, Swann fends from the crease.

Kumar to Swann, no run, he drops a length ball into the off side, Broad wants the single, but Swann sends him back.

England 191/8   GP Swann 25* (30b 3x4)

Sharma to Swann, 1 run, short outside off stump to Swann who eases it away backward of point for one more. One can only imagine how frustrating this must be for India!

Sharma to Swann, 1 run, Swann goes big, pulls a short ball rather well, and intentionally in the air. It lands in front of the man running in from deep square leg, another single.

England 195/8   GP Swann 27* (32b 3x4)

Kumar to Swann, 1 run, full outside off and swinging away, Swann laces it into the covers for one more.

Kumar to Swann, no run, he ducks this one into Swann who has leaned well outside off, and then stabs it away as it comes in.

Kumar to Swann, OUT, whoa, the stand has ended, Praveen has produced a magic ball to send Swann packing. The crowd breaks out into warm applause as he goes off, what a stupendous effort from Swanny! Praveen gets one to snort from just short of a length, I wonder how often he has managed to produce something like that with his 125 kph fare. This pitch is full of tricks, I tell you. Swann was leaning forward as it took off and was caught unawares. It kept coming at him as he tried to pull back and evade it, hit the handle and popped up for an easy catch at gully, even as he turned all the way around in shock. India appeal, Swann walks. Praveen has a wicket, but he continues to scowl. What a character!
