On July 6 2008, Luke Ronchi caught Chris Gayle off Mitchell Johnson in St Kitts. On May 31 2013 Luke Ronchi caught Ian Bell off Tim Southee at Lord's. He is the first international player since Kepler Wessels to play for two Full Member nations having decided to use his place of birth over the Tasman sea as a second chance at the top level. Some wicketkeepers find it hard the first time they stand at Lord's, but Ronchi appeared settled from the start - his experience helping - but that first catch nestling in the gloves will still have been special.

On this ground last year Eoin Morgan produced a breathtaking innings against Australia and England could have done with something similar this time around. But he has not had much time to adjust back to English conditions after the IPL - one innings for Middlesex, which was a first-ball duck - and on this occasion he found himself in a mess against a short ball from Mitchell McClenaghan. Having advanced down the pitch he could not pull out of his pull in time and sent a big top edge to Ronchi.

Brendon McCullum likes to throw the dice occasionally and while bringing Kane Williamson into the attack was not the most outlandish piece of captaincy you will see it was still smart thinking. The Powerplay was in operation, which is normally a time for specialist bowlers, but having seen England struggle against Nathan McCullum he opted for pace off the ball. It worked a treat, too, when Jos Buttler tried to break the shackles only for his well-struck reverse-sweep to find backward point.

It was always touch-and-go over distance, but Tim Bresnan was well inside the boundary rather than on the rope which made it even harder for him the track back to attempt the catch. In the end he palmed it for six and Woakes' day turned into an expensive one. Guptill's day turned into a memorable one.
