110.6

Imran Farhat to Trott, 2 runs, and that's it, what an innings from Trott, what an innings from Broad and a stunning partnership

Stumps Broad and Trott lead the players off to a standing ovation from the Lord's crowd, bathed in sunshine - this is a really special moment. A day of irresistible, fluctuating Test cricket. England were down and out after Amir's stunning new-ball spell but Trott battled hard and found a partner, first in Prior and then, remarkably with Broad, who was prepared to fight with him. From the moment he came to the crease Broad batted with complete clarity and conviction to record his first Test hundred.

Just an unbelievable day really and the scorecard has to rank as the most bonkers scorecard since this. The game is actually set up very well now, under cloudless skies the pitch is very quiet but when the dank rolls over the ball moves round corners, Pakistan will feel completely buried after suffering through that unbeaten 244 stand but the England total is not yet insurmountable.

One of the most memorable day's cricket we've seen in a long time and to get a flavour of it have a look at our gallery. If that's not enough, Gansher has managed to squeeze everything into his end-of-day bulletin.

Epic day and that's all from us, we'll be back from 10.45am tomorrow morning too see how this incredible game unfolds.

End of over 111 (4 runs) England 346/7
IJL Trott    149* (302b 15x4)      Imran Farhat    9-1-21-0
SCJ Broad    125* (220b 11x4 1x6)      Saeed Ajmal    30-3-86-0

Already a slight surprise, Saeed Ajmal will bowl the first over...

Just a few minutes to go before the action starts - keep those record books handy. Pakistan have an early-morning huddle and here come Trott and Broad to loud applause. In fact, it's almost a standing ovation. Not a bad way to start the day.

10.50am Jonathan Trott has said that England want to push towards 400 while Pakistan are desperate for three quick wickets then it will be over to their batsmen. Pakistan's highest team total this summer is the 308 they made at The Oval; this is a day to try and go better than that.

10.45am A great place to chat about all the action today is on our Facebook page. And, I know I say it every time, but please don't become offensive or rude.

10.30am Morning everyone and welcome to the third day from Lord's. If we have cricket to match yesterday's excitement and record-breaking we'll be in for a treat. It was a brilliant to watch from start to finish. I'm Andrew McGlashan and along with Sahil Dutta and Liam Brickhill will be with you throughout the day.

If you are looking at the scorecard and blinking, it does tell the truth. England's middle order all fell for ducks (for the first time) then Jonathan Trott and Stuart Broad added an unbroken 244 - that's just three away from setting a new eighth-wicket record for England. Phew, mighty stuff.

Trott played a wonderful Test innings and is cementing himself as a vital part of England's line-up, while Broad's hundred fulfilled the promise he has often shown with the bat.

But let's not forget the star for Pakistan. Mohammad Amir, remember he's just 18, was outstanding during the first two sessions to take all six wickets that fell. He's got one heck of a career ahead of him so long as he stays fit and motivated.

First change of bowling as Mohammad Asif comes into the attack...he bowled well without reward yesterday, but Trott played him superbly

122.1

Mohammad Asif to Broad, no run, back of a length on off stump, Broad stands tall and defends

122.2

Mohammad Asif to Broad, 1 run, on leg stump and elegantly flicked away through midwicket...that was timed beautifully but deep square cut it off

More fielding changes as two men swap positions on either side of the pitch

122.3

Mohammad Asif to Trott, no run, outside off, Trott plays forward and takes his bottom hand off the bat as he defends

Just a slip and a gully in place

122.4

Mohammad Asif to Trott, no run, outside off and left alone...Akmal takes it by his bootlaces

122.5

Mohammad Asif to Trott, no run, uses his feet to Asif then defends firmly back to the bowler

122.6

Mohammad Asif to Trott, no run, full on off stump, just a hint of swing and it's pushed firmly to mid-on

There's been very little on offer for the bowlers so far...it's certainly a batting day

End of over 123 (1 run) England 377/7
IJL Trott    160* (337b 16x4)      Mohammad Asif    27-6-84-1
SCJ Broad    139* (258b 12x4 1x6)      Saeed Ajmal    36-5-100-0

123.1

Saeed Ajmal to Broad, no run, a doosra goes down the leg side, quite close to leg stump and Akmal can't collect cleanly

123.2

Saeed Ajmal to Broad, no run, goes for a slog-sweep but doesn't make contact as the ball spins

123.3

Saeed Ajmal to Broad, no run, tossed up on middle and off, Broad leans forward and defends to the off

123.4

Saeed Ajmal to Broad, 1 leg bye, another doosra and it takes the pad then dribbles through short fine-leg...half an appeal but it wasn't close

123.5

Saeed Ajmal to Trott, no run, on middle and flicked out to midwicket

123.6

Saeed Ajmal to Trott, 2 runs, plays back and it takes a thick outside edge past slip...wasn't a catch, it went down, and there's a couple towards third man

End of over 124 (3 runs) England 380/7
IJL Trott    162* (339b 16x4)      Saeed Ajmal    37-5-102-0

124.1

Mohammad Asif to Broad, no run, outside off and punched firmly to silly mid-off

124.2

Mohammad Asif to Broad, no run, pushed into the off side

124.3

Mohammad Asif to Broad, no run, on middle and off, Broad punches back to Asif in his follow through

124.4

Mohammad Asif to Broad, FOUR, bang! Top shot from Broad. It was full on off stump and he drove straight through the line to send it whistling straight down the ground

124.5

Mohammad Asif to Broad, 1 run, another nice drive and this time there's a single to mid-off who is quite deep

124.6

Mohammad Asif to Trott, no run, nips back from outside off and Trott gets an inside edge down by his feet

Jonathan Trott is only the seventh batsman to make two scores of 150-plus at Lord's. And seeing as he's only played here twice, that's no mean feat.

End of over 125 (5 runs) England 385/7
IJL Trott    162* (340b 16x4)      Mohammad Asif    28-6-89-1

125.1

Saeed Ajmal to Broad, 1 run, goes for the sweep and it's in the air but falls short of deep square-leg

125.2

Saeed Ajmal to Trott, 1 run, pushed off the back foot wide of mid-off

125.3

Saeed Ajmal to Broad, no run, comes forward on off stump and defends to the on side

125.4

Saeed Ajmal to Broad, 1 run, tossed up on middle and driven down to long-on

125.5

Saeed Ajmal to Trott, no run, on off stump and pushed towards silly point

125.6

Saeed Ajmal to Trott, FOUR, lovely shot...that's top quality from Trott as he drives perfectly between mid-off and cover. Was full on off stump and he just leant on the shot

Back to Trott on the honours board and Miller adds this: "Incidentally, one of those men, Warren Bardsley, features on two separate batting boards, seeing as his 164 for Australia in 1912 came in the original neutral Test against South Africa."

End of over 126 (7 runs) England 392/7

SCJ Broad    146* (270b 13x4 1x6)      Mohammad Asif    28-6-89-1

126.1

Mohammad Asif to Broad, no run, ooh, beaten...that's a rarity today as Broad drives without quite getting a stride in. The ball moves late after it passes the bat and almost defeats Akmal

126.2

Mohammad Asif to Broad, no run, full and pushed across Broad who leaves alone

126.3

Mohammad Asif to Broad, FOUR, shot! Another cracker from Broad as a flowing cover drive takes him to 150...what an effort from the No. 9 as he gets another standing ovation. Fully deserved.

126.4

Mohammad Asif to Broad, no run, on off stump, right behind the line and defends to mid-off

126.5

Mohammad Asif to Broad, FOUR, and another...this is top quality batting from Broad as he drives between cover and mid-off with the elegance of a No.4. Takes England to 400.

126.6

Mohammad Asif to Broad, no run, outside off and left alone to end a productive over

Right, here's Sahil until lunch

Thanks Gnasher. Excellent first hour for England and these are probably the best batting conditions we've had all series. Hard work indeed for Pakistan.

127.1

Saeed Ajmal to Trott, no run, decent line from Ajmal but there is not much in the wicket for him

127.2

Saeed Ajmal to Trott, 1 run, Trott shuffles across his stumps to nurdle a bread-and-butter single behind square on the leg side

127.3

Saeed Ajmal to Broad, 4 byes, big grunt from Ajmal as he delivers his doosra and it spins down the leg side past Kamran Akmal to the fine leg boundary to bring up the 300 partnership. 300. Unbelievable.

127.4

Saeed Ajmal to Broad, no run, better delivery this time that Broad has to defend carefully

127.5

Saeed Ajmal to Broad, no run, another doosra goes down the leg side but this time Akmal collects

127.6

Saeed Ajmal to Broad, no run, oops, yet another leg-side doosra, Broad can't get anything on it

End of over 128 (5 runs) England 405/7

It's difficult to see where Pakistan will get a wicket really. Maybe this will help - Imran Farhat is on. Maybe it won't.

128.1

Imran Farhat to Trott, 1 run, rolls a gentle legspinner out around off stump and the deep-set field allows a easy single down the ground

128.2

Imran Farhat to Broad, no run, very gently prodded back up the pitch

128.3

Imran Farhat to Broad, FOUR, lovely shot this, really good shot, flicked round the corner delicately to the fine leg boundary

128.4

Imran Farhat to Broad, no run, Broad stretches out to defend to the off side

128.5

Imran Farhat to Broad, no run, this time Broad gets deep into his crease and punches back to the bowler

128.6

Imran Farhat to Broad, no run, well-timed defensive push finds cover, fair to say Farhat isn't doing much with the ball

End of over 129 (5 runs) England 410/7
SCJ Broad    158* (285b 16x4 1x6)      Imran Farhat    10-1-26-0

Double change - here's Wahab Riaz. Pakistan need him to create something here but with the sun out the forecast looks gloomy for the tourists.

129.1

Wahab Riaz to Trott, no run, decent enough start outside off stump on a good length, Trott casually lets it go by him

129.2

Wahab Riaz to Trott, FOUR, edge found as Trott defends from the crease but it goes wide of the single slip and runs away to the third man boundary

129.3

Wahab Riaz to Trott, 1 run, how many times has he done this!? Trott nurdles into the leg side for a single to equal the world record for the highest eighth-wicket stand

129.4

Wahab Riaz to Broad, FOUR, that is the record and what a way to get there! Broad slaps a cover drive through cover for four to set the record for the highest the highest eighth-wicket stand in Test history

129.5

Wahab Riaz to Broad, FOUR, and again! What a stylish player he is, Broad stands tall and crunches this at the top of the bounce through point for four. Broad has also beaten his father's best Test score

129.6

Wahab Riaz to Broad, 1 run, Wahab is dishing them up into Broad's hitting arc outside off stump, Broad duly flows a drive for a single to point

End of over 130 (14 runs) England 424/7
SCJ Broad    167* (288b 18x4 1x6)      Wahab Riaz    23-4-88-0
IJL Trott    174* (349b 18x4)      Imran Farhat    10-1-26-0

130.1

Saeed Ajmal to Broad, no run, Broad leans forward to defend quietly into the off side

130.2

Saeed Ajmal to Broad, no run, Broad is very well set, he's timing everything sweetly but this drive finds cover

130.3

Saeed Ajmal to Broad, 1 run, single for Broad this time, piercing the infield with a controlled drive

130.4

Saeed Ajmal to Trott, no run, doosra is read by Trott and guided down to third man

130.5

Saeed Ajmal to Trott, FOUR, wow, this is very classy indeed, just a fraction leg-sided from Ajmal and Trott leans on it and sends it racing away to the midwicket boundary

130.6

Saeed Ajmal to Trott, 1 run, Trott goes back and squeezes a single to fine leg, he's on the way to becoming the first man ever to make consecutive double hundreds at Lord's after his 226 against Bangladesh earlier in the summer

End of over 131 (6 runs) England 430/7
IJL Trott    179* (352b 19x4)      Saeed Ajmal    40-5-116-0
SCJ Broad    168* (291b 18x4 1x6)      Wahab Riaz    23-4-88-0

Pakistan have a plan - it's a 7-2 off-side field. No surprises where Wahab will be bowling then.

131.1

Wahab Riaz to Trott, no run, good line given the field, just outside off stump and Trott leaves alone

131.2

Wahab Riaz to Trott, no run, you sense most people taking on Trott game of patience will come away second best but that's what Pakistan are doing, Trott leaves

131.3

Wahab Riaz to Trott, no run, cripes, this is very far outside off stump, must have been close to being a wide

131.4

Wahab Riaz to Trott, 1 no ball, Wahab has maintained the outside-off-stump line but he oversteps to gift England a run

131.4

Wahab Riaz to Trott, no run, Trott seems thoroughly pleased to leave everything outside off and wait for Wahab to stray

131.5

Wahab Riaz to Trott, no run, the loose delivery duly arrives and Trott will be annoyed that his flowing cover drive picked out the fielder

131.6

Wahab Riaz to Trott, no run, Wahab shoves this well out the way of trouble - it's negative stuff but in the circumstances I'm not sure what else Pakistan could do

End of over 132 (1 run) England 431/7
IJL Trott    179* (359b 19x4)      Wahab Riaz    24-4-89-0
SCJ Broad    168* (291b 18x4 1x6)      Saeed Ajmal    40-5-116-0

132.1

Saeed Ajmal to Broad, no run, a big stretch forward from Broad to defend into the off side

132.2

Saeed Ajmal to Broad, 1 run, nicely played this, Broad pushes to Yousuf - the word's most reluctant fielder - and collects a single

132.3

Saeed Ajmal to Trott, no run, this one keeps a touch low as Trott goes back to defend

132.4

Saeed Ajmal to Trott, 1 run, decent line and a good lengthy but there is no devil to work with for the bowlers and Trott fiddles a single behind square

132.5

Saeed Ajmal to Broad, no run, ooh almost some trouble for Broad this time, bottom-edging a cut shot close to his stumps

132.6

Saeed Ajmal to Broad, no run, faintest hint of a false shot again this time as Broad plays to early on a drive and it almost goes back to the bowler

End of over 133 (2 runs) England 433/7
SCJ Broad    169* (295b 18x4 1x6)      Saeed Ajmal    41-5-118-0
IJL Trott    180* (361b 19x4)      Wahab Riaz    24-4-89-0

133.1

Wahab Riaz to Trott, 1 no ball, another no ball from Wahab keeps England ticking along as Trott defends

133.1

Wahab Riaz to Trott, no run, outside off stump again from Wahab and Trott has nothing to do with it

133.2

Wahab Riaz to Trott, no run, touch fuller from Wahab, invites a drive that finds cover

133.3

Wahab Riaz to Trott, no run, Trott won't tire of leaving alone outside off stump so it's unlikely the line will get him out, but at least it gives Pakistan some control

133.4

Wahab Riaz to Trott, no run, good delivery this, straighter and forces Trott to defend

Between deliveries Trott wanders towards square leg before coming back to mark his guard. Given that he's done that for 366 deliveries now he must have walked miles.

133.5

Wahab Riaz to Trott, no run, good delivery this time, around off stump, Trott hangs a bat in defence but it ghosts past the edge

133.6

Wahab Riaz to Trott, no run, the over ends with Trott happily leaving alone as Wahab pushes one across him

End of over 134 (1 run) England 434/7
IJL Trott    180* (368b 19x4)      Wahab Riaz    25-4-90-0
SCJ Broad    169* (295b 18x4 1x6)      Saeed Ajmal    41-5-118-0

134.1

Saeed Ajmal to Broad, no run, ooh good ball, some flight and loop and actual spin from Ajmal, beats Broad as he tries to defend

134.2

Saeed Ajmal to Broad, OUT, big appeal here as Broad misses an attempted sweep, he's a long, long way forward but it does look straight. Given not out and Pakistan opt to review. It's hitting and Broad's epic vigil is over.

SCJ Broad lbw b Saeed Ajmal 169 (426m 297b 18x4 1x6) SR: 56.90

Incredible reception from the Lord's crowd - the entire ground are on their feet as Broad walks off. He finishes with the second-highest score by a No. 9 in Test history and it's been a stunning, match-changing innings.

134.3

Saeed Ajmal to Anderson, no run, Anderson, who's had to wait a very long time to get in, plays and misses at his first ball

134.4

Saeed Ajmal to Anderson, 2 runs, Anderson's collected a fair few ducks in recent times but he's off the mark this time, squirting an outside edge to third man for a couple

134.5

Saeed Ajmal to Anderson, no run, doosra this time thuds into Anderson's thigh

134.6

Saeed Ajmal to Anderson, 2 leg byes, quicker ball this time, flicks the pads and heads off down to fine leg, some swift running and bad throwing allows a risky two to become easy

End of over 135 (4 runs) England 438/8
JM Anderson    2* (4b)      Saeed Ajmal    42-5-120-1
IJL Trott    180* (368b 19x4)      Wahab Riaz    25-4-90-0

135.1

Wahab Riaz to Trott, no run, Wahab is continuing his outside-off-stump approach and Trott is happy to leave again

135.2

Wahab Riaz to Trott, 1 run, slightly fuller from Wahab and Trott drives calmly to a deep-set mid-off for a single

Just a single slip in place but there is plenty of company close in on the leg side - short leg, leg gully and deep square.

135.3

Wahab Riaz to Anderson, no run, ooh good delivery, touch of reverse and zippy pace, whistles past Anderson's attempted defensive prod

135.4

Wahab Riaz to Anderson, no run, dug in short again and it spears into Anderson's midriff

135.5

Wahab Riaz to Anderson, no run, this is a wasted delivery, slung down the leg side

135.6

Wahab Riaz to Anderson, no run, wow, plenty of reverse swing on this one, full and bending in late into Anderson's boot - big appeal but it looked like it was heading down, given not out and despite the review from Salman Butt, Anderson survives

Pakistan have now used up both their reviews while England have two in the bank.

End of over 136 (1 run) England 439/8

IJL Trott    181* (370b 19x4)      Saeed Ajmal    42-5-120-1

136.1

Saeed Ajmal to Trott, no run, good line from Ajmal and Trott defends with half a pad and half a bat

136.2

Saeed Ajmal to Trott, 1 run, Trott is clearly unfazed by Broad's dismissal, continuing in his bubble to nurdle a single to the leg side

136.3

Saeed Ajmal to Anderson, no run, slower ball and Anderson waits calmly to poke it into the off side

136.4

Saeed Ajmal to Anderson, no run, nicely driven into the off side but it finds the infielder

136.5

Saeed Ajmal to Anderson, no run, doosra slips down the leg side and Anderson can't get anything on it

136.6

Saeed Ajmal to Anderson, FOUR, neatly played this time, having got the sighter the ball before, Anderson clips this round the corner sending it running away quickly to the fine leg boundary

End of over 137 (5 runs) England 444/8
JM Anderson    6* (12b 1x4)      Saeed Ajmal    43-5-125-1
IJL Trott    182* (372b 19x4)      Wahab Riaz    26-4-91-0

137.1

Wahab Riaz to Trott, no run, Trott's bat must appear metres wide to the bowlers at the moment, defending so solidly

137.2

Wahab Riaz to Trott, no run, outside off stump this time and Trott has nothing to do with it

137.3

Wahab Riaz to Trott, no run, slightly tighter line from Wahab but he can only find the middle of Trott's defensive bat

137.4

Wahab Riaz to Trott, no run, Trott is watching the clock and won't play at any of these outside off

137.5

Wahab Riaz to Trott, no run, once again Trott gets his entire being behind it

137.6

Wahab Riaz to Trott, 1 run, Trott will face the first ball after lunch after he clips this, as he does so often, into the midwicket region to end the session. What a masterclass it's been from him.

Lunch Trott leads the players off it's been remorseless from him, pressing home England's advantage to take them into a pretty much unbeatable position. "After all those legitimate stats, it's high time for a spurious one," says Miller. "Jonathan Trott has now joined Graham Gooch as the only man to score 183 runs or more on two occasions in a Lord's Test." Massive news that! Somebody must tell him, he'll be thrilled.

It must be said that the conditions could not be more benign for batting now. Sun baking down and the Lord's pitch is very flat indeed. Pakistan should be able to bat well on it - but they must feel crushed at the moment. Andrew McGlashan has summarised the morning's play in his lunchtime bulletin so have a check of that.

End of over 138 (1 run) England 445/8
IJL Trott    183* (378b 19x4)      Wahab Riaz    27-4-92-0
JM Anderson    6* (12b 1x4)      Saeed Ajmal    43-5-125-1

Welcome back everyone. Liam Brickhill here to take you through the first hour or so after lunch. On a fine, sunny afternoon the players are heading out onto the field, watched by a full house at Lord's.

138.1

Saeed Ajmal to Trott, no run, Ajmal delivers from round the wicket, landing the ball on middle and off and topspinning it straight on. Defended by Trott

138.2

Saeed Ajmal to Trott, no run, quicker through the air, and the offspinner this time, turning towards the leg stump and striking Trott on the pad as he shapes to tuck to midwicket

138.3

Saeed Ajmal to Trott, 1 run, pushed wider of off, Trott just pushes the ball into space behind square and they set off for a single

138.4

Saeed Ajmal to Anderson, no run, Ajmal seems able to beat the edge of Anderson's bat almost at will - as he does now - but what he wants is to actually touch it!

138.5

Saeed Ajmal to Anderson, OUT, and this time he does! Regulation edge to the offspinner by the left-hander, and Hameed at slip holds an easy chance. Not the biggest celebration from Pakistan though, they're deflated from having to toil so hard and simply want to get this innings over with

JM Anderson c Yasir Hameed b Saeed Ajmal 6 (16m 14b 1x4 0x6) SR: 42.85

138.6

Saeed Ajmal to Finn, no run, quicker one! Much quicker, almost a medium-paced delivery, but it's slipped out as a low full toss on off stump and Finn taps into the off side

End of over 139 (1 run) England 446/9
ST Finn    0* (1b)      Saeed Ajmal    44-5-126-2
IJL Trott    184* (381b 19x4)      Wahab Riaz    27-4-92-0

Meanwhile, Trott simply bats on. "And look at that, Trott is into uncharted territory now," adds Miller

139.1

Wahab Riaz to Trott, no run, tucked into the leg side

139.2

Wahab Riaz to Trott, OUT, Now what's happened here? Riaz fired one full and wide, Trott threw bat at ball. There was a definite sound and the ball landed safely in Kamran's gloves. But was it a bump ball? It almost looked as though ball slipped under bat, it was that full. Pakistan have no reviews left, but the umpires are asking the third umpire to check the legitimacy of the catch ... and that's out! A big edge, a simple catch, and the end of a great innings from Trott

IJL Trott c †Kamran Akmal b Wahab Riaz 184 (554m 383b 19x4 0x6) SR: 48.04

Well, there's certainly a bizarre look to this scorecard. Two big centuries from Trott and Broad, and England's other eight batsmen made 51 runs between them. After the elation during Amir's spell on the second morning, Pakistan were gradually ground down by England's stunning fightback and appeared a deflated unit towards the end of that 332-run partnership. But they'll have to pick themselves up quickly, their batsmen still have a great deal of work to do. By the way folks, we have all the latest action from the F1 qualifying at Spa on our sister site ESPNF1 so you can check that out in the innings break.
