Profile

Durham-born Karl Turner spent five years with his home county without progressing beyond second team cricket before looking elsewhere for an opportunity. Trials with Hampshire and Derbyshire preceded his arrival in Nottingham, where he was offered a short-term contract to trial as an opening batsman. After making 185 for Nottinghamshire's second XI in his second match, the left-hander was given a first-class debut against Durham and went on to make five Championship appearances, with a top score of 64 against Sussex. He was retained for 2012, competing with Alex Hales, Neil Edwards and Riki Wessels for a place in the senior side, but was released at the end of the season.
