Dwayne Bravo fined for criticising umpiring decision

Dwayne Bravo, the West Indies allrounder, has been fined 20% of his match fee for publicly criticising an umpiring decision. Bravo, after the second ODI on Tuesday, criticised the lbw decision held against Chris Gayle.

"It's okay, umpires do make mistakes -- that's accepted -- but not when they see the referral as well and realise they've made the wrong decision and then stand by it," Bravo had said on Tuesday. "It was a game-changing moment, and it was always difficult then to get a big total. If the decision had gone a different way, it might have been a different ball game."

Chris Gayle, who was given out lbw against Graeme Swann, was going well, having struck five sixes and three fours to reach 53 off 50 balls. In Graeme Swann's second over, he was given out by Tony Hill who ruled the ball had struck the pad fractionally before the inside edge. Gayle immediately asked for a review but third umpire Kumar Dharmasena upheld the original decision, ruling there wasn't sufficient evidence to overturn it. From 63 for 0, West Indies slipped to 79 for 4.

"Dwayne unfortunately went over the mark in describing the Chris Gayle decision and used comments that criticised both the on-field and TV umpire," match referee Jeff Crowe said in a release.

There was no formal hearing as Bravo pleaded guilty. The charge - a Level 1 offence vis-à-vis inappropriate public comment - was laid by Hill and Dharmasena.

West Indies coach Ottis Gibson had been fined by the ICC in April this year during the Tests against Australia, for criticising the lack of consistency in the use of DRS.
