NatWest Series [West Indies in England] - 2nd ODI

England v West Indies

England won by 8 wickets (with 30 balls remaining)

14.4

Swann to Gayle, OUT, flat delivery, not much turn and there's a big lbw appeal ... it's given but Gayle immediately reviews it. Swann was pleading, imploring for that decision and Tony Hill gave it after an age. There's definitely bat involved but was it pad first? There's no doubt the ball was going on to hit. It's practically impossible to tell if the ball squeezed on to the pad via the bat or the other way around. Perversely, the crowd probably don't want him to go ... but he has to, as the decision is upheld!

CH Gayle lbw b Swann 53 (66m 51b 3x4 5x6) SR: 103.92

West Indies 63/1   LMP Simmons 10* (37b 1x4)   GP Swann 1.4-0-3-1

16.2

Broad to Smith, OUT, wide-ish and Smith nicks off! The ball might have left him a touch and he went for a full-blooded mow, only to thin one through to the keeper. Bit of a gimme wicket, that, and England's decision to bowl first is looking less like the madness it seemed 10 minutes ago

DR Smith c †Kieswetter b Broad 0 (9m 4b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00

West Indies 63/2   LMP Simmons 10* (43b 1x4)   SCJ Broad 0.2-0-0-1

20.2

Broad to Simmons, OUT, Simmons tries the same thing and Cook, who had come in a yard or two, runs him out with a direct hit from mid-off! Good piece of work from the captain, leaving the batsman half a yard short. Simmons has to go and he trudges off at about the same pace with which he scored his 12 runs

LMP Simmons run out 12 (96m 50b 1x4 0x6) SR: 24.00

West Indies 79/3   MN Samuels 13* (17b 2x4)   SCJ Broad 2.2-0-9-1

20.6

Broad to Samuels, OUT, Samuels - who I was about to say looked in good nick - top-edges a brisk bouncer straight to deep midwicket! He got in a tangle against a short ball a couple of overs back but it lobbed short ... this time the miscue sailed high and not-so-handsome to the fielder on the rope

MN Samuels c Bresnan b Broad 13 (22m 21b 2x4 0x6) SR: 61.90

West Indies 79/4   DJ Bravo 0* (0b)   SCJ Broad 3-0-9-2

39.5

Bresnan to Pollard, OUT, got him! Heaved into the deep but it went more up then long and it's easily taken by Anderson, in fact not that much in the deep, he came in off the rope because it was that much of a miscue. The bouncer eventually works against Pollard and that's a vital strike for England at an important time

KA Pollard c Anderson b Bresnan 41 (79m 52b 3x4 1x6) SR: 78.84

West Indies 179/5   DJ Bravo 53* (62b 6x4 1x6)   TT Bresnan 8.5-1-51-1

45.4

Finn to Sammy, OUT, cracked straight to point and England strike at a good time. It was short and wide really but Sammy couldn't have picked out the fielder better, he's upset and rightly so, given it away when he was moving along well

DJG Sammy c Morgan b Finn 21 (22m 20b 1x4 1x6) SR: 105.00

West Indies 220/6   DJ Bravo 73* (77b 8x4 2x6)   ST Finn 8.4-1-43-1

46.3

Anderson to Ramdin, OUT, edged and gone Ramdin, for some reason, steps away to try and a swing a length ball through the off side and nicks off. Poor decision really, just run the singles and let Bravo do the hitting

D Ramdin c †Kieswetter b Anderson 2 (6m 4b 0x4 0x6) SR: 50.00

West Indies 223/7   DJ Bravo 74* (78b 8x4 2x6)   JM Anderson 8.3-2-30-1

48.1

Anderson to Bravo, OUT, swung straight up in the air, this is coming down with snow on it and well taken by Bopara at extra cover. It hung up in the air for an age but Bopara steadied himself well and clung on going slightly behind himself, a jolly good grab and Bravo's fine knock is over

DJ Bravo c Bopara b Anderson 77 (121m 82b 8x4 2x6) SR: 93.90

West Indies 232/8   TL Best 6* (6b 1x4)   JM Anderson 9.1-2-35-2

49.4

Bresnan to Best, OUT, followed him and beaten again in between the pads and the stumps, they try to take a bye to the keeper but Kiestwetter finds the stump with the underarm and Narine is easily run out. Excellent work after the diving roll.

SP Narine run out 2 (9m 4b 0x4 0x6) SR: 50.00

West Indies 237/9   TL Best 7* (11b 1x4)   TT Bresnan 9.4-1-53-1
