Keith Dutch was an offspinning allrounder who never quite got the opportunity to show off his talents and whose career ended prematurely in disappointment. He made his debut for Middlesex aged 20, but in the next eight seasons only made a couple of dozen appearances, only taking his first five-for in 2000. At the end of that summer he moved to Somerset, and immediately stamped his mark with 35 wickets, 535 runs and his maiden hundred. But he increasingly became viewed as a one-day utility player, and with no guarantee of a regular place in the side, he turned down an offer of a contract extension at the end of 2005.
