A top-order batsman, Ian Hutchinson played only two full seasons with Middlesex after trials with Glamorgan and Worcestershire. He hit the ground running in 1989, making a career-best 201* against Oxford University and then in July thumped 105 against Lancashire and 177 against Kent. He missed the 1990 season but started 1991 in good form before again falling away.
