Deputy Flight Commander David Merry., a younger brother of the West Indies Test player, was killed in Canada on May 4 when doing a night flying trial. A very useful batsman, he made 135 in three completed innings for Trinidad in 1941 and went to England directly afterwards. He was only 21.
