Compton Vyfhuis was a widely respected umpire who stood in six Tests between 1973-74 and 1977-78 - he was appointed for the 1980-81 Bourda Test against England which was cancelled after the Guyanese government refused to allow Robin Jackman into the country. He also stood in two ODIs and went on to become a match referee.
