England women draw with India in Lucknow

Despite the world record-breaking opening test partnership made by England's Caroline Atkins and Arran Thompson, the test match between India and England in Lucknow has finished in a draw

Despite the world record-breaking opening test partnership made by England's Caroline Atkins and Arran Thompson, the test match between India and England in Lucknow has finished in a draw.
Following heavy rain and bad light, which led to the loss of 68 overs on days two and three, India finished their first innings on 312-9 in reply to England's first innings total of 314.
The England batters, led by Atkins and Thompson, have made a outstanding comeback in the test match, having lost the first three one-day internationals. The teams now move to Mumbai for the fourth ODI on Monday 21st January, finishing their tour in Pune on Thursday 24th January with the fifth ODI.
Speaking after the test match, England captain Clare Connor said: "The performance in this test match has given the whole team a lot of confidence, and Caroline and Arran were simply world class. It's a psychological victory for us that we protected our lead, and taking 6 wickets for 10 runs this afternoon ensured that we finished ahead.
"We're starting to see the depth of young talent in the women's game in England, now we need to keep working hard to see that talent realised in our results.
"It's disappointing that we lost so much time to rain, and the match ended in a draw, but we're looking forward to the last two ODIs and ensuring the series result reflects our improvement."
In addition to her world record, Caroline Atkins won a television for 'Batsman of the Match', and said: "I don't have a TV in my room at University, so it's excellent news! I just have to get it home! It was great to win the prize, especially as Kala made a century."
