Travis Friend, one of the 15 Zimbabwe rebels involved in the dispute which followed the sacking of Heath Streak in April this year, has signed for Derbyshire.
Friend, 23, has played 13 Tests and 51 one-day internationals but, like the other rebels, he is unlikely to play international cricket again and he will resume his career in England. David Houghton, who was one of Zimbabwe's finest players in the late 1980s and early 1990s, is the head coach at Derbyshire.
"I am grateful to Derbyshire for giving me the opportunity to continue with my first-class career," Friend said. "I'm looking forward to working with Dave Houghton and the rest of the team at Derbyshire and hope to contribute as much as I learn this coming season."
