Marcus Trescothick, the England opener, is concerned about international players suffering from `burn-out', with the packed schedules giving no respite as they gear up for the World Cup in West Indies in 2007.

"Burn-out has been talked about a lot in the last couple of weeks - it's been mentioned in Australia about the [International Cricket Council's future tours] programme," said Trescothick after the first day of Somerset's opening game of the season against Gloucestershire. "I think the authorities are aware, and that will obviously help the players then to overcome it."

Trescothick returned home before the first Test of England's tour of India in March. He maintained that he had pulled out because of a virus when, at the time, `family reasons' were stated as the reason for his exit. "I just got out there to Mumbai and started picking up bugs - and it gradually took its toll on me.

"I want to play as many games as I can - but there will come a time when you have to say 'I'm going to be rested this game'. It's not always an easy thing to do, because you've geared yourself up for a long time to play international cricket - and you want to play as many games as you can."
