  • It was the 1607th ODI in cricket history.
  • It was England's 311th and Zimbabwe's 152nd ODI match.
  • It was the 13th meeting between these two sides. Zimbabwe has won 7, England 6.
  • Umpires David Shepherd and Ken Palmer were officiating in their 93rd and 21st match respectively.
  • The match was 32nd for Shephed as an umpire on English soil. With this he equalled David Constant's tally. Now only Dicky Bird (34) is ahead of Shepherd.
  • Matthew Maynard was making a comeback into English side. He last appeared for England against Pakistan at Nottingham on 01-09-1996. Maynard thus missed 57 matches in between his two consecutive appearance. This, however, is nowhere near Wayne Larkins record. Larkins two consecutive appearances between January 1980 and October 1989 were separated by nine years 266 days and by 110 matches.
  • Marcus Trescothick was making his ODI debut. He became 157th player to represent England in ODIs.
  • Trescothick became 16th Englishman to score a fifty on debut. His innings is the highest by an Englishman on debut, batting at the opening spot. The previous highest was Chris Broad's 76 against Australia at Perth on 01-01-1987.
  • Trescothick's innings is also the joint second highest by any debutant at batting position one after Zimbabwean Andy Flower's 115* against Sri Lanka at New Plymouth on 23-02-1992 and alongwith Australia's Kepler Wessels' 79 against New Zealand at Melbourne on 09-01-1983.
  • The partnership of 106 runs between debutant Trescothick and Graeme Hick is the highest for second wicket for England against Zimbabwe. This obliterates the 81 run partnership between Nick Knight and Graeme Hick at Harare on 20-02-2000.
  • The four catches by Guy Whittall are the most taken by a Zimbabwean fieldsman in a match. The previous record was of 3 catches which was on the name of two fielders. Alistair Campbell took three catches against Kenya at Dhaka on 19-03-99 and Andy Whittall (half brother of Guy Whittall) did so against South Africa at Chelmsford on 29-05-1999.
  • Guy Whittall also became only the second fielder in ODIs to held four catches in a match against England after West Indian Richie Richardson who did so at Birmingham on 23-05-1991.
  • Grant Flower's figures (3 for 9) are the most economical by a Zimbabwean bowler capturing 3 wickets in a match. The previous record was on the name of Craig Wishart who conceded 11 runs while taking his three wickets against Sri Lanka at Sharjah on 07-11-1998.
  • Andy Flower's innings (61) is the highest by a `keeper captain against England. He bettered his own 52 made at Brisbane on 07-01-1995. Incidentally Andy Flower is the only `keeper captain to score an individual fifty against England.
  • The 123 run stand between Alistair Campbell and Andy Flower is the highest for fourth wicket for Zimbabwe against England. This obliterates the 11o run stand between Grant Flower And Dave Houghton at Sydney on 15-12-1994.
  • The Man of the Match award was fourth for Alistair Campbell.
