Graeme Hick has been confirmed as captain of Worcestershire.

There had been speculation that the club may have appointed Steve Rhodes who stood in for Hick for much of the 2000 season. However, the announcement that Hick's name was not among those on the ECB central contract list has convinced the club that he is likely to be available for more of the season.

However club secretary, Mike Vockins, was adamant that this was not an admission that Hick's Test career was over.

"This does not mean in any way that we believe his Test career has ended but it is now easier for us and for him to focus on his role here. The committee was unanimous in deciding that we want Graeme to continue as captain," he said.
