Born in the Isle of Wight, Danny Briggs made his mark as a slow-left arm bowler on the England Under-19 tour of Bangladesh in 2009, where he finished as his side's leading wicket-taker with eight wickets. He broke into the Hampshire first team in 2009, having played in the county's youth teams since the age of the nine, and by the following season was a first-team regular.

Several noteworthy performances caught the eye in 2010, as he took 4 for 93 to help set up a dramatic - and vital - win over Kent at Canterbury with just minutes to spare in the match in September 2010, bowling Hampshire to victory and first division safety. On the same ground he recorded outstanding Twenty20 figures of 3 for 5 in four overs, again against Kent, and set a club record of 31 wickets in the FPt20 competition as Hampshire won the 2010 Trophy - including his Man of the Match award in the semi final.

He was rewarded with a call-up to the England Lions squad for their winter tour of the Caribbean, taking 33 wickets at 18.87 in the Regional Four Day Competition, and his continued development meant he was a regular in all formats for Hampshire in 2011. At the end of the season he was rewarded with a call-up to the England T20 squad to face West Indies and was included in England's ODI squad to face Pakistan in the UAE in February 2012, then later the same year for the World Twenty20.

He lists Daniel Vettori as his cricketing hero, having modelled his bowling style on the New Zealand skipper.
