Profile

Chris Woakes is a player with a bright future and is making rapid strides with Warwickshire. A tall quick bowler, he topped the county's bowling averages in 2008 and was soon being talked about as someone with the ability to push onto international cricket. The selectors were clearly taking note because he was named in England's 30-man preliminary squad for the ICC World Twenty20, and also the MCC team to take on Durham at the start of the 2009 season. By January 2011, he was deemed ready to take the next step, and in his maiden international appearance, in a Twenty20 against Australia at Adelaide, he kept his cool to hit the winning runs in a thrilling one-wicket victory and later in the tour he took 6 for 49 in a one-day international at Brisbane.
