NatWest Series [India in England] - 3rd ODI

England v India

England won by 42 runs

10am local time Just to summarise things for you before the game begins. India won the toss and chose to field against England. There's one change to the Indian team - Zaheer Khan comes into the side in place of Ajit Agarkar. There are two changes to the England team. Monty Panesar replaces the injured Andrew Flintoff while Owais Shah comes in for Dimitri Mascarenhas who took a knock in the warm-ups just before the toss.

HR Gopalakrishna, our resident statistician tells us this is the 24th time India has put the opposition in to bat in India-England ODI encounters. 9.20 am Hello everybody and welcome to Cricinfo's live coverage of the third ODI between England and India at Edgbaston.

Bad news for England fans I'm afraid, Andrew Flintoff has been ruled out of the match due to an irritation and inflammation inside the right knee joint. Resting him is more of a precautionary measure.

Monty Panesar has replaced Flintoff and Chris Tremlett, who had a poor game at Bristol conceding 73 runs off nine overs, gets another chance.

It was sunny all morning but it's just a bit cloudy as it gets close to the time when the game starts.

Rahul Dravid calls tails correctly once more and this time he chooses to field. Dravid explains his decision saying he wanted to make best use of the conditions early on and that he believed the pitch would last the distance anyhow.

India made one change to their team, an expected one, bringing Zaheer Khan back into the eleven in place of Ajit Agarkar who has not had the best time of it with the ball in recent times.

India - 1 Sachin Tendulkar, 2 Sourav Ganguly, 3 Yuvraj Singh, 4 Rahul Dravid (capt), 5 Mahendra Singh Dhoni (wk), 6 Dinesh Karthik, 7 Piyush Chawla, 8 Ramesh Powar, 9 Zaheer Khan, 10 RP Singh, 11 Munaf Patel

Paul Collingwood said he wasn't too fussed about losing the toss. There's more injury bad news for the England team. Dimitri Mascarenhas injured himself while warming up and has been replaced by Owais Shah.

England - 1 Alastair Cook, 2 Matt Prior (wk), 3 Ian Bell, 4 Kevin Pietersen, 5 Paul Collingwood (capt), 6 Ravi Bopara, 7 Owais Shah, 8 Stuart Broad, 9 James Anderson, 10 Monty Panesar, 11 Chris Tremlett

I'm Anand Vasu and I'll be calling this game for you.

There's still about 20 minutes to the time the first ball will be bowled. The game is scheduled to start at 0915 GMT, 1445 IST.

HR Gopalakrishna, our resident statistician, tells us this is the 24th time India have put the opposition in, in India-England ODI encounters.

The players are out on the field and it's almost time for the first ball. Alastair Cook and Matt Prior will face up. It's Zaheer Khan to open the bowling

0.1

Khan to Cook, no run, Full and on the off stump, Zaheer is on target right away even though he's coming back after a bit of a break, Cook watches the ball carefully and defends it back down the pitch

0.2

Khan to Cook, no run, Once again on the off - from over the stumps - just short of a driving length, Cook waits on the ball and clips it to the on side, no chance of a run though

0.3

Khan to Cook, no run, This one is dragged in just a touch shorter, and wide outside the off stump, Cook is watchful and leaves it well alone to the keeper

0.4

Khan to Cook, 1 wide, this one is again quite wide outside the off stump, Cook once more leaves it well alone

0.4

Khan to Cook, no run, slightly closer to the stumps this time, still quite full, chopped down but straight to point and there's no chance of a run

0.5

Khan to Cook, no run, closer to the stumps, just short of a length, this one does not go away and instead holds its line, left alone to the keeper. That was close to the stumps but well judged.

0.6

Khan to Cook, no run, wide outside the off stump and once again it's left well alone to the wicketkeeper. Good start that from Zaheer apart from the one wide

End of over 1 (1 run) England 1/0 (RR: 1.00)
AN Cook    0* (6b)      Z Khan    1-0-1-0
MJ Prior    0* (0b)

1.1

Singh to Prior, no run, RP Singh begins his spell. He's bowling to Matt Prior. Once again it's quite full and outside the ooff and Prior leave is alone

1.2

Singh to Prior, no run, Much better from RP! This one is closer to the off stump and there's just a hint of movement as well, Prior comes forward and pokes at it. The ball slides past the toutside edge and goes through to the keeper

1.3

Singh to Prior, no run, Once bitten, momentarily shy ... Prior leaves this ball well alone to the keeper as it slants away outside the off stump

1.4

Singh to Prior, no run, Prior's back to his normal ways, has a go at this one outside the off stump and misses it by some way as the ball leaves Prior, going away from the right-handed batsman with RP Singh's natural arm action

1.5

Singh to Prior, no run, Another play and a miss! Prior's movign half-heartedly across his crease and having a swat at balls that are slanted away from him. With slips in place this is a dangerous ploy. The ball goes just past the edge to the keeper

1.6

Singh to Prior, no run, And this time Prior is chastened and leaves the ball well alone outside the off stump. Good start from RP Singh, a maiden over. The score stays and 1 for no loss.

End of over 2 (maiden) England 1/0 (RR: 0.50)
MJ Prior    0* (6b)      RP Singh    1-1-0-0
AN Cook    0* (6b)      Z Khan    1-0-1-0

2.1

Khan to Cook, no run, pushed off the back foot to backward point, no run there ...

2.2

Khan to Cook, 1 run, and Cook gets off the mark as this one is eased just wide of the man at midwicket who has to tumble and collect the ball. By the time he does so the batsmen cross for a single

2.3

Khan to Prior, no run, Prior is careful as Zaheer hits a good line and length, a pretty decent start from Zaheer

2.4

Khan to Prior, no run, Once again on chance of a run as Prior blocks. Zaheer is making the batsman play but yet not giving enough width to free arms

2.5

Khan to Prior, no run, Prior is squared-up a touch by this one. The ball bounces a touch extra from a length and the ball catches the outside half of the bat and squirts away down towards point

2.6

Khan to Prior, FOUR, Crack! Fullish, outside the off, Prior gets right behind the line of the ball and punches very very firmly. That was a checked drive and still booms off what must be a very good bat. The outfield is quick and once the ball has beaten the man at point there's really no chance for the fielder in the deep. Prior will feel much, much better after that. First boundary of the England innings

End of over 3 (5 runs) England 6/0 (RR: 2.00)
MJ Prior    4* (10b 1x4)      Z Khan    2-0-6-0
AN Cook    1* (8b)      RP Singh    1-1-0-0

3.1

Singh to Cook, no run, Full and on the stumps, driven carefully but straight to the man at mid-on

3.2

Singh to Cook, FOUR, And now Cook comes to the party. A fullish ball from RP is just a touch too straight. Cook turns the wrists at the last moment and sends the ball racing away through midwicket. That was all timing and the ball races away to the fence

3.3

Singh to Cook, 1 leg bye, Too full and once again on the pads, Cook glances and misses, the ball goes off the pad and bobs down to the wicketkeeper who dives and half stops, the batsmen scurry a leg-bye

3.4

Singh to Prior, 1 run, This one is short and rising quickly on the batsman. Played down towards backward point with an angled bat for the single

3.5

Singh to Cook, 3 runs, Now Cook gets it away through the off side and there's three runs for the taking. England building some good momentum here after being kept quiet in the first couple of overs

3.6

Singh to Prior, no run

End of over 4 (9 runs) England 15/0 (RR: 3.75)
MJ Prior    5* (12b 1x4)      RP Singh    2-1-8-0
AN Cook    8* (12b 1x4)      Z Khan    2-0-6-0

4.1

Khan to Cook, 2 runs, driven wide of long off

4.2

Khan to Cook, no run, short of a good length and on the off, punched away towards cover

4.3

Khan to Cook, no run

4.4

Khan to Cook, 1 run, Zaheer now gets one to come in off the pitch, rolling the fingers on the ball, Cook watches the ball late and clips the ball away down to fine-leg

4.5

Khan to Prior, no run, just short of a driving length and on the off stump, Prior gets right behind the ball and plays it back down the pitch to the bowler

4.6

Khan to Prior, no run, fuller and on the off, Prior moves nicely into line and punches the ball back down the ground. The ball goes straight to mid-off and there's no chance of a run

End of over 5 (3 runs) England 18/0 (RR: 3.60)
MJ Prior    5* (14b 1x4)      Z Khan    3-0-9-0
AN Cook    11* (16b 1x4)      RP Singh    2-1-8-0

5.1

Singh to Cook, 2 runs, short of a length, on the stumps, coming in with the arm, Cook clips off his toes just wide of mid-on, Munaf Patel half dives and parries the ball away, the batsmen can pick up a comfortable two

5.2

Singh to Cook, 1 run, and now there' s a misfield from Munaf at mid-on as Cook just strokes the ball to him. Another run ...

5.3

Singh to Prior, no run, driven to mid-on

5.4

Singh to Prior, no run, short of a good length, good bounce and carry, left well alone to the keeper

5.5

Singh to Prior, no run, short of a good length, outside the off, Prior has a nibble and just misses the ball/ The ball swings after passing the bat, in towards the stumps, Dhoni catches and goes up in appeal but that's not out

5.6

Singh to Prior, 2 runs, a little too full and on the stumps, Prior has no trouble with this one. Punches past mid-off for a brace to end the over

End of over 6 (5 runs) England 23/0 (RR: 3.83)
MJ Prior    7* (18b 1x4)      RP Singh    3-1-13-0
AN Cook    14* (18b 1x4)      Z Khan    3-0-9-0

6.1

Khan to Cook, no run, Fullish ball on the stumps, Zaheer slanting the ball in towards Cook's toes. Cook watches the ball carefully and defends to off

6.2

Khan to Cook, 1 run, a touch too straight this time from Zaheer and Cook works the ball to the leg side and hares off for a single

6.3

Khan to Prior, no run, banged in a touch short and decent pace as well. Prior comes half forward but decides to defend watchfully rather than play the big shot. The ball rolls back down the pitch to the bowler

6.4

Khan to Prior, no run, Swing and a miss! Prior is in some trouble here as a ball from Zaheer starts just outside the off stump and bends away. A bit too good that for Prior in the kind of form he is in at the moment

6.5

Khan to Prior, 3 runs, fuller and outside the off, punched away through cover, this time there'll be runs for Prior

6.6

Khan to Cook, no run, short of a good length and on the off, the ball hurries Cook a touch, he jams the bat down as quickly as he can and the ball squirts down towards point

End of over 7 (4 runs) England 27/0 (RR: 3.85)
AN Cook    15* (21b 1x4)      Z Khan    4-0-13-0
MJ Prior    10* (21b 1x4)      RP Singh    3-1-13-0

7.1

Singh to Prior, 1 run, RP continues. Fullish and on the pads. Prior clips the ball to the leg side and steals a single, getting to the non-striker's end

7.2

Singh to Cook, no run, full and very straight, defended back down the ground to the bowler

7.3

Singh to Cook, no run, another ball that is well directed and just threatening to swing, defended back down the pitch to the bowler

7.4

Singh to Cook, 2 leg byes, short of a good length and slipping down the leg side, Cook swivels and tries to pull the ball away down the leg side. The ball goes off the thigh pad down to fine-leg. A wayward return from Zaheer lets the batsmen get an extra run

7.5

Singh to Cook, no run, fullish and on the stumps, thumped pretty hard but straight to the man at cover

7.6

Singh to Cook, no run, this time Cook gets the ball away on the leg side, but there's no chance of a run as he finds the fielder at mid-on

End of over 8 (3 runs) England 30/0 (RR: 3.75)
AN Cook    15* (26b 1x4)      RP Singh    4-1-14-0
MJ Prior    11* (22b 1x4)      Z Khan    4-0-13-0

8.1

Khan to Prior, 1 run, short of a good length and on the stumps, Prior walks across his stumps and nudges the ball to the leg side for a single

8.2

Khan to Cook, no run, The first real appeal in a while. Fullish and pretty straight. Played at and missed. Zaheer goes up, asking for the lbw, but it's slipping down leg

8.3

Khan to Cook, 1 run, Dropped! short one banged in, Cook takes the bait, he plays teh pull, it goes straight to RP Singh at fine-leg who watches the ball carefully into his hands and drops the ball! That's a sitter gone abegging.

8.4

Khan to Prior, 1 run, single pinched to square-leg to add insult to injury

8.5

Khan to Cook, no run

8.6

Khan to Cook, FOUR, not too full, not too short, Cook plays it really well though, backing away in his crease a little and chopping the ball hard into the ground. It simply kicks off and runs past point to the boundary!

End of over 9 (7 runs) England 37/0 (RR: 4.11)
AN Cook    20* (30b 2x4)      Z Khan    5-0-20-0
MJ Prior    13* (24b 1x4)      RP Singh    4-1-14-0

A change in the bowling now. Munaf Patel replaces RP Singh. So RP won't get a chance to redeem himself for that dropped catch just yet.

9.1

Patel to Prior, 1 no ball, He begins with a no-ball. Short of a good length and on the stumps, played back down the pitch

9.2

Patel to Prior, FOUR, short, wide, slow ... and rubbish. It looks like Munaf is striving for pace, but the results just aren't there. Prior waits on that dolly and carts it away over point for a boundary

9.3

Patel to Prior, no run, Much better ball. Decent line and length, something approaching good pace, defended back down the pitch

9.3

Patel to Prior, 2 runs, Another one that just sits up a touch. Prior chooses the leg side this time, pulling over midwicket for an easy couple

9.4

Patel to Prior, 2 runs, short of a good length and outside the off, Prior opens the face of the bat and runs teh ball down towards third-man for a couple

9.5

Patel to Prior, 2 runs, another short one, another pull. Suddenly Prior seems to have gotten a bit confident. Perhaps he's decided to go after Munaf. This one is pulled high and wide of midwicket

9.6

Patel to Prior, no run, short of a good length, outside the off, this is supposedly the McGrath line and length that Munaf bowls well, if occasionally these days, left alone to the keeper

End of over 10 (11 runs) England 48/0 (RR: 4.80)
MJ Prior    23* (31b 2x4)      MM Patel    1-0-11-0
AN Cook    20* (30b 2x4)      Z Khan    5-0-20-0

10.1

Khan to Cook, 1 run, just short of a driving length, cramping Cook up a bit for room, the ball is squeezed away towards mid-on and a quick single is pinched

10.2

Khan to Prior, 1 run, short of a good length and outside the off, Prior waits and chops the ball down through point for an easy single

10.3

Khan to Cook, 1 leg bye, short of a good length, on the stumps, the ball doesn't quite get up as much as Cook expects and is beaten on the pull, off the pad to the off side for a leg-bye

10.4

Khan to Prior, 1 run, Prior picks another easy run off, clipping the ball nicely away through point

10.5

Khan to Cook, 1 run, And another quick run as the ball goes down leg and Cook gets some bat to it and dabs it away to the leg side

10.6

Khan to Prior, no run, short of a good length, outside the off, cut hard but straight to the man at point, Yuvraj fields and that's the end of the over

End of over 11 (5 runs) England 53/0 (RR: 4.81)
MJ Prior    25* (34b 2x4)      Z Khan    6-0-24-0
AN Cook    22* (33b 2x4)      MM Patel    1-0-11-0

11.1

Patel to Cook, no run, short of a good length and on the stumps, defended back down the pitch with a straight bat

11.2

Patel to Cook, no run, on the stumps, the ball wobbles just a touch and Cook tries to play across the line to the leg side, a thin inside edge back onto pad. Stifled shout for the lbw, easily turned down

11.3

Patel to Cook, FOUR, A bit of width, fairly gentle pace at under 130 kmh, Cook leans into a glorious drive and sends the ball skidding across the turf to the cover fence

11.4

Patel to Cook, 1 run, Once again nothing much in terms of pace and the perfect width for the batsman to place the ball away through the off side for a single

11.5

Patel to Prior, no run, short of a good length and on the off, punched to the off side

11.6

Patel to Prior, FOUR, Shot! Width offered and graciously accepted. Prior gets down on one knee and crashes the ball through the point region. Munaf is going to get a bit of tap if he can't stick to a good line and length

End of over 12 (9 runs) England 62/0 (RR: 5.16)
MJ Prior    29* (36b 3x4)      MM Patel    2-0-20-0
AN Cook    27* (37b 3x4)      Z Khan    6-0-24-0

12.1

Singh to Cook, 1 wide, RP Singh comes back into the attack in place of Zaheer Khan and begins with a wide down the leg side

12.1

Singh to Cook, no run, just short of a length and outside the off stump, Cook watches the ball onto bat and plays it down to point

12.2

Singh to Cook, no run, short of a driving length and on the off, much better from RP, punched back down the ground towards off

12.3

Singh to Cook, 2 wides, And another wide. A run stolen as well. Pretty shabby stuff this from RP. He bangs the bouncer in but it's well down the leg side. Then Dhoni collects and rolls the ball back towards the stumps as the batsmen get the extra run

12.3

Singh to Prior, 1 run, fullish and outside the off, played away through third-man

12.4

Singh to Cook, no run, short of a length and outside the off, chopped hard down to cover

12.5

Singh to Cook, FOUR, short and outside the off, this one really sits up and begs to be hit. Cook walks across nicely and pulls in front of square for yet another boundary

12.6

Singh to Cook, 1 run, And Cook tries to repeat the shot. Except he can't quite get hold of it and the ball goes off the inside edge to the leg side. Good over that from England as RP was all over the place

End of over 13 (9 runs) England 71/0 (RR: 5.46)
AN Cook    32* (42b 4x4)      RP Singh    5-1-23-0
MJ Prior    30* (37b 3x4)      MM Patel    2-0-20-0

England beginning really well here. No wickets down and they're scoring at close to 6 an over.

13.1

Patel to Cook, 1 run, short of a good length and outside the off, dabbed down to cover for yet another easy single taken

13.2

Patel to Prior, no run, fullish and outside the off, Prior drives hard but straight to the man at cover

13.3

Patel to Prior, FOUR, Munaf bangs another one in short. Not clear if that was an attempted bouncer or one that went wrong. Either way it sat up nicely for Prior to rock back and pull fiercely over midwicket

13.4

Patel to Prior, OUT, Gone! This time Prior plays the big shot to the wrong ball. Munaf pitches one just outside the off stump and it wobbles in the air, not really swinging or shaping one way or the other. It does just enough to beat the bat of Prior who has had an almighty pull across the line. He closes the face of the bat just a touch too early and the ball spears off the edge towards the off side. Piyush Chawla calls for the catch and settles under it, judging it well and holding onto it as he tumbles backwards. That's the first England wicket gone.

MJ Prior c Chawla b Patel 34 (61m 40b 4x4 0x6) SR: 85.00

13.5

Patel to Cook, no run, fullish and on the off, it's Cook on strike as the batsmen crossed over while the Prior catch was being taken. Bell waits at the non-striker's end as Cook jabs the ball to point

13.6

Patel to Cook, 3 runs, fullish and outside the off, Cook leans into the line of the ball and eases it throuh cover. The timing and placement are good and the outfield is quick. More easy runs to the total ...

End of over 14 (8 runs) England 79/1 (RR: 5.64)
AN Cook    36* (45b 4x4)      MM Patel    3-0-28-1
IR Bell    0* (0b)      RP Singh    5-1-23-0

14.1

Singh to Cook, 1 run, Fullish, on the pads, clipped to the leg side. Single stolen and Ian Bell gets on strike

14.2

Singh to Bell, 1 run, short of a good length and on the stumps, just a hint of swing in to Bell who moves across his stumps and works the ball through square-leg for a single

14.3

Singh to Cook, 1 run, just short of a length and on the off, Cook plays it to the on side and once again there's an easy single on offer as an Indian fielder gets to the ball pretty slowly

14.4

Singh to Bell, no run, RP comes around the stumps. A hint of swing in to Bell. Short of a good length, played down towards point

14.5

Singh to Bell, no run, short of a driving length and outside the off, Bell stands tall and defends the ball back down the pitch with a dead straight bat

14.6

Singh to Bell, no run, once again just short of a length and the ball comes in from outside the off, both with the arm and through a touch of swing, defended back down the pitch

Patel to Cook, no run, Short of a good length and on the stumps, played back down the pitch to the bowler

15.3

Patel to Bell, no run, fullish and on the off stump, played back down the pitch with a slightly angled bat

15.4

Patel to Bell, 1 run, short of a good length and outside the off stump, played down to third-man

15.5

Patel to Cook, no run, full and on the off stump, driven to cover, no chance of a run on that occasion

15.6

Patel to Cook, 1 no ball, Yet another no-ball. Played down to the off side

15.6

Patel to Cook, no run, fullish and outside the off, floated through, not even 125 kmh that, defended back down the wicket to end the over and the players will have a short break for drinks

15.6

Patel to Cook, no run, fullish and outside the off, floated through, not even 125 kmh that, defended back down the wicket to end the over and the players will have a short break for drinks

17.1

Patel to Bell, no run, Munaf drops short again on off stump, Bell moves back and across and tries to pull but doesn't time or place it well enough to beat midwicket

17.2

Patel to Bell, no run, pushed back towards the bowler on the front foot

17.3

Patel to Bell, no run, Bell moves down the track to a good length ball and defends towards the bowler

17.4

Patel to Bell, no run, 124 kmh, full delivery on off stump, Bell leans forward and drives to mid-on

17.5

Patel to Cook, (no ball) 1 run, another one, poor poor stuff from Munaf, he bowled five in the last game and he's already bowled four here, Cook plays it off his hips through midwicket

17.5

Patel to Bell, no run, a half-volley on middle stump, Bell leans forward and drives firmly to mid-on

17.6

Patel to Bell, 2 runs, width offered outside off stump once again, Bell cuts past Yuvraj at point and the batsmen run a comfortable two to Powar at third man

18.1

Powar to Cook, OUT, Another one! Tossed up, looks gentle and inviting, Powar has put some revs on this ball though and it dips late. That's a beautifully flighted ball. Cook instinctively goes for the sweep shot. The ball does just enough to beat the bat and take the leading edge. It balloons straight up in the air for the simplest catch to Yuvraj Singh at short fine-leg. That's a classical offie's dismissal and Powar is over the moon as Cook is sent on his way

23.6

Chawla to Pietersen, OUT, Here we go again! Piyush Chawls does KP in with the googly. That is a fine piece of bowling from this young legspinner to beat a batsman who plays spin so well. KP jumps down the track plays down the wrong line and is beaten all ends up. This time though the ball is missing the stumps and Mahendra Singh Dhoni pouches the ball cleanly and whips the bails off. That is a tidy bit of work behind the stumps to back up a clever bit of bowling. Big wicket for India!

Chawla is back in the attack

42.1

Chawla to Bell, 2 runs, Full-toss outside the off, flat-batted through midwicket

42.2

Chawla to Bell, 2 runs, eased away through cover, one for the throw and the batsmen easily come back back for the second

42.3

Chawla to Bell, 2 runs, slightly short and outside the off stump, cut away in front of square, Ganguly is the sweeper on the off-side fence and two more runs result

42.4

Chawla to Bell, no run, Chawla comes round the stumps and cramps Bell for room. Down the track and driven to the bowler

42.5

Chawla to Bell, 1 run, It's Bell's turn to try the reverse sweep. Not too well hit, the ball bobs away to the off side

42.6

Chawla to Shah, 1 run, Shah plays the conventional sweep to a ball pitched on the stumps and gets a single to keep the strike

End of over 43 (8 runs) England 220/4 (RR: 5.11)
OA Shah    13* (13b)      PP Chawla    8-0-41-1
IR Bell    64* (78b 2x4 1x6)      Yuvraj Singh    6-0-28-0

43.1

Yuvraj Singh to Shah, SIX, Bang! That is a biggie! Shah comes down the pitch, Yuvraj tries to fire the ball in full and ends up sending down a full-toss. It's creamed baseball style over midwicket for six

43.2

Yuvraj Singh to Shah, OUT, Very fast, very straight, that one is a rocket from Yuvraj Singh. He;s out-thought Shah comepletely here. Shah was moving around in his crease and trying to give himself some room to free his arms and clear the infield. All he ended up doing was giving Yuvraj a good look at the three stumps. Once he had that Yuvraj nailed Shah with a really quick ball that pretty much uprooted the leg stump. That was a clever bit of bowling from the part-time left-arm spinner!

OA Shah b Yuvraj Singh 19 (15m 15b 0x4 1x6) SR: 126.66

43.3

Yuvraj Singh to Bopara, 1 run, very full, very flat, straight, sweep played down towards fine-leg

43.4

Yuvraj Singh to Bell, 1 run, this one is slightly slower and is played down towards midwicket with a straight bat

43.5

Yuvraj Singh to Bopara, 1 run, slower and on the off, this is floated through a bit more, eased back past the bowler towards long-off for a single

43.6

Yuvraj Singh to Bell, 2 runs, full and on the stumps, driven inside out towards cover, a bit of a misfield and the batsmen can pick up a single

End of over 44 (11 runs) England 231/5 (RR: 5.25)
IR Bell    67* (80b 2x4 1x6)      Yuvraj Singh    7-0-39-1
RS Bopara    2* (2b)      PP Chawla    8-0-41-1

44.1

Chawla to Bopara, no run, flat and on the stumps, defensive shot played and missed

44.2

Chawla to Bopara, no run

44.3

Chawla to Bopara, 1 run, full and on the pads, clipped away through the on side for a single, Chawla running through his deliveries really quickly here

44.4

Chawla to Bell, SIX, Down the track and there she goes! Bell comes down the pitch in fine style, giving himself some room and getting to the pitch of the ball. Once he's there a clean swing of the bat sends the ball into the stands straight back over the bowler's head. That is a quality shot

44.5

Chawla to Bell, 1 run

44.6

Chawla to Bopara, 1 run, once again the sweep, the ball goes down to the man at short fine-leg

End of over 45 (9 runs) England 240/5 (RR: 5.33)
RS Bopara    4* (6b)      PP Chawla    9-0-50-1
IR Bell    74* (82b 2x4 2x6)      Yuvraj Singh    7-0-39-1

RP Singh comes back into the attack

45.1

Singh to Bopara, FOUR, short of a good length, from round the stumps, coming in with the arm, Bopara chops hard at it and gets it away fine. Third-man runs around but just can't cut that off

45.2

Singh to Bopara, 2 runs, A bit of width and once more the cut, this time it's square though and will be cut off by the fielder in the deep

45.3

Singh to Bopara, OUT, Another one bites the dust! Bopara walks across his stumps and tries to play a cute dab to the leg side. It's a risky shot with the left-arm seamer coming around the stumps. The ball pitches, grips the surface a touch and straightens. The leading edge comes into play and the ball pops straight into Rahul Dravid's hands at short cover. Simple catch and yet another failure for Bopara

RS Bopara c Dravid b Singh 10 (7m 9b 1x4 0x6) SR: 111.11

45.4

Singh to Broad, 1 run, full and outside the off, eased through cover for a single, Stuart Broad off the mark straight away

45.5

Singh to Bell, 2 runs, just short of a good length and outside the off, Bell plays nicely inside out and through cover, two more runs

45.6

Singh to Bell, 1 run, just short of a length and outside the off, Bell bunts the ball to the leg side for one and keeps the strike as the 250 comes up for England

End of over 46 (10 runs) England 250/6 (RR: 5.43)
IR Bell    77* (84b 2x4 2x6)      RP Singh    7-1-36-1
SCJ Broad    1* (1b)      PP Chawla    9-0-50-1

Zaheer Khan comes back into the attack.

46.1

Khan to Bell, no run, low full-toss outside the off, played down to point with an angled bat

46.2

Khan to Bell, no run, full and outside the off, that one is pacy too, Bell tries to make room and drive but misses the ball. A bit of needle here between Bell and Zaheer

46.3

Khan to Bell, 1 run, a good yorker from Zaheer to follow up that quick ball, Bell is up to the task and digs it out well, a single results

The umpires come together now and it looks like there's going to be a change of ball. The white ball has become a bit dull and greenish and difficult to pick up.

46.4

Khan to Broad, 1 run, just short of a good length and on the off, Broad squeezes the ball away down to third-man for a single that gives Bell the strike

46.5

Khan to Bell, 1 run, fullish and outside the off, Bell gives himself a bit of room and drives inside out to cover

46.6

Khan to Broad, 1 run, Zaheer goes for the yorker once more. It ends up as a low full-toss which Broad swats away to the on side. Ganguly fields in the deep and keeps the batsmen down to one. This means Broad keeps the strike and just four runs off the over, a good one from Zaheer

End of over 47 (4 runs) England 254/6 (RR: 5.40)
SCJ Broad    3* (3b)      Z Khan    9-0-42-0
IR Bell    79* (88b 2x4 2x6)      RP Singh    7-1-36-1

47.1

Singh to Broad, no run, very full and a bit outside the off, just a hint of away movement there. Broad reaches for the ball but is a bit late on the shot and misses the ball completely. Through to the keeper

47.2

Singh to Broad, 1 run, short of a good length and on the stumps, played down to mid-on for a quick single. Dinesh Karthik reaches the ball quickly but cannot pick up the ball cleanly. That might have been a good chance for the run out

47.3

Singh to Bell, OUT, fullish and on the stumps, Bell gives himself a bit of room and tries to drive inside out and loft the ball over cover. Unfortunately for Bell, who has played very well here once again, he just cannot get under the ball enough. The elevation is not there and Dinesh Karthik at cover has to move five paces to his right and take the catch. He gets both hands on the ball and tumbles a bit, making the catch look a bit more spectacular than it was. End of a quality knock from Bell, though and England are losing their way a bit here.

IR Bell c Karthik b Singh 79 (140m 89b 2x4 2x6) SR: 88.76

47.4

Singh to Broad, 1 run

47.5

Singh to Tremlett, 2 runs, played away down to square-leg, the throw comes in, RP Singh collects and misses the stumps from about five feet! That's an incredibly bad bit of fielding from the bowler and what's more he gives away the overthrow

47.6

Singh to Tremlett, 1 run, once again worked away to square-leg. No drama this time, though, just a single

End of over 48 (5 runs) England 259/7 (RR: 5.39)
CT Tremlett    3* (2b)      RP Singh    8-1-41-2
SCJ Broad    5* (6b)      Z Khan    9-0-42-0

48.1

Khan to Tremlett, 1 run, short of a good length and on the stumps, clipped away to the on side for an easy single

48.2

Khan to Broad, no run, short of a good length and on the off, Broad goes back and tries to punch the ball through cover. The ball goes off the splice towards cover

48.3

Khan to Broad, FOUR, Bang! Broad comes to the party. Short of a length and outside the off. Broad moves forward well and square-drives beautifully ... the ball beats the diving point fielder and races away to the boundary

48.4

Khan to Broad, 1 run, very full and on the stumps, good yorker, equally well dug out, a single as well

48.5

Khan to Tremlett, 1 run, another yorker, again dug out, again a single scrambled. Zaheer fields off his bowling and has a shy at the stumps but misses

48.6

Khan to Broad, no run, quick and quite full, just outside the off stump, Broad swings and misses, the ball sails through to the keeper. Good over from Zaheer. One left in the innings now.

End of over 49 (7 runs) England 266/7 (RR: 5.42)
SCJ Broad    10* (10b 1x4)      Z Khan    10-0-49-0
CT Tremlett    5* (4b)      RP Singh    8-1-41-2

49.1

Singh to Tremlett, SIX, That's the biggest of the lot! RP Singh bowls one perfectly in the slot and Chris Tremlett hits this with all he's got. He gives himself a bit of room and clears teh ropes, the stands and everything else by some way. That ball has gone a long distance. HUGE hit from Tremlett to start the final over

49.2

Singh to Tremlett, 1 bye, this time RP Singh bangs it in short for variation. Tremlett swings and misses but the bye is scampered nevertheless

49.3

Singh to Broad, OUT, short of a good length, angled in to the left-handed batsman, Broad has an almighty heave, he can't quite connect cleanly, the bat turns in his hand and one hand comes off the bat as the ball gets plenty of elevation but not nearly enough distance. Yuvraj Singh back-peddles at cover and settles under the swirler. Another England wicket falls as the innigns comes towards a close

SCJ Broad c Yuvraj Singh b Singh 10 (19m 11b 1x4 0x6) SR: 90.90

49.4

Singh to Tremlett, 2 runs, short of a length, on the middle and leg, Tremlett pulls this away to backward square-leg, Ganguly fields but can't stop the batsmen from running a second

49.5

Singh to Tremlett, 2 runs, RP fires the yorker in this time, squeezed well out down to long-on for a couple more

49.6

Singh to Tremlett, FOUR, short of a length, really bad length to bowl at this time of the innings, Tremlett sees it early and pulls the ball strongly to the midwicket fence. That is a bold stroke to end the innings

So that's the end of the England innings and they've done well to get up to 281 after being put in to bat.
