Good morning and welcome to the third day's play from a very windy Old Trafford. Apologies for the slight delay in welcoming you this morning - technical trouble. But we're fit and firing now, and here's O'Brien to open the bowling to Pietersen.

Close End of a see-saw battle, one which New Zealand finally edged with those final wickets. Taylor and Mills propped them up with the bat before Vettori lead a bowling charge. Oram kept it tight and O'Brien got two big breakthroughs.

England will probably reflect on the slow run-rate through the day but they weren't allowed to do much by some tight bowling. Strauss played a good hand but Vaughan will be frustrated to have done all the hard work and given it away in the end.

Hope you enjoyed the coverage. From me, Sid Vee, good night and good luck.

59.3

O'Brien to Pietersen, no run, Pietersen takes a big stride forward to block this good, straight ball

59.4

O'Brien to Pietersen, no run, whipped to leg

Flynn's at the team hotel today. Still feeling fairly average. He's having extensive work to replace/fix his teeth on Tuesday, we're told

59.5

O'Brien to Pietersen, no run, nice looking drive from Pietersen, though without power, straight to cover

59.6

O'Brien to Pietersen, 1 leg bye, a huge shout from O'Brien! Pietersen's wrapped on the pads here but it's just outside the line, I think. My word, it moved back massively on Pietersen...but it's just outside the line

IR Bell    4* (9b)      IE O'Brien    16-6-37-2

61.1

O'Brien to Pietersen, 2 runs, full one but he's not got his timing yet, driven hard but a thick edge only takes the ball to deep point

61.2

O'Brien to Pietersen, no run, tapped back down the ground, he's standing tall and watching it closely

Gnasher: "Jacob Oram injured his right shoulder during slip practice in the warm-ups. He isn't on the field, Peter Fulton is sub"

61.3

O'Brien to Pietersen, no run, that's bizarre, seems out but hardly anyone seems interested, outside off and probing, jags back in and Pietersen , an edge deflects onto the pads and lobs up to the keeper, O'Brien lets out an appeal but nobody is interested, Taufel says no, that was a clear edge, interestingly KP lifted his bat to indicate he had hit it (as batsmen usually do during lbw appeals)

Vettori to Pietersen, no run, firmly punched towards mid-on

62.5

Vettori to Pietersen, no run, turn and bounce, that's vicious, pitches on off and takes off high, Pietersen has no answer to one that spits off the pitch, McCullum takes it high, that's a brute of a ball

62.6

Vettori to Pietersen, no run, worked away to midwicket

Both Vettori and O'Brien are making things happen

England rolled over for 202. They've conceded a 179-run lead. New Zealand well and truly on top.

Vettori ensures there's a huddle with all his fielders and offers a pep talk. He then walks off to a standing ovation for allowing New Zealand to dominate. His five-wicket haul led the way and O'Brien and Mills offered support. This is Vettori's best figures against England, who've dug a hole for themselves here.

Gnasher: "I don't think the Old Trafford crowd know what to make of that effort from England. It's nowhere near a full house and there are some glum faces."
