NatWest Series [Pakistan in England] - 2nd match

England v Pakistan

Pakistan won by 7 wickets (with 20 balls remaining) (D/L method)

Buckle up, here we go!

Pakistan are out there in the huddle. It will be Shoaib Akhtar to Marcus Trescothick.

And we have a fan far, far away from Lord's who is tuned into the match!

"I'm reading Cricinfo and listening to TMS at home in Les Arcs in the French Alps," says Robert Moy. "Occasionally looking out the window to the snowy, glacier capped, north face of the BellecĂ´te to my left and the cloud-hatted summit of Mont Blanc to my right." We aren't green with envy whatsoever...

It will be a 46 overs per side, it has been decided.

11.30am And the covers are now coming off...looks like we will have some play now. News is that play will begin in 15 minutes.

Morning everyone. Will here. I'm rudely interrupting Jamie's spiffing commentary just to remind you about our caption competition - we have tickets to give away, so check it out. It's utterly gloomy at Lord's but we should have some play in the next 15 minutes. Back to Jamie

There looks to be a green tinge on the pitch and, and as my colleague Will Luke puts it, "looks more like a May pitch than September"...

And we look set for play. The covers have been taken off. Inzamam-ul-Haq correctly calls tails and decides to have a bowl.

10.26am The update is that play will start at 11.15 BST

10.17amThe groundstaff are now starting to mop up on the covers. The umpires are chatting to Mick Hunt, the head groundsman, but its hard to say whether this is just a short break before the main rain band comes to town...

10.04am The rain has just got a little lighter, but it is very dull all around the ground.

Hello and welcome to Cricinfo's coverage of the second one-day international between England and Pakistan at Lord's. This is your commentator, Jamie Alter.

Rain hampered Pakistan's march towards victory in the series opener at Cardiff, and the update from here is not that encouraging either. The rain is coming down, albeit in a drizzle, and the covers are on, but the chances of play anytime soon are slim. The weather is expected to become finer today but by then it might be too late. England have made one change from the first ODI with Jon Lewis replacing Sajid Mahmood, while Pakistan have retained the same XI from Cardiff.

0.1

Shoaib Akhtar to Trescothick, no run, on middle and leg, turned fine, loud shout of 'NO!'

Not a very attacking field set by Inzamam.

0.2

Shoaib Akhtar to Trescothick, no run, fuller on off, some swing there, pushed into the covers, 89mph on that one

0.3

Shoaib Akhtar to Trescothick, no run, wider this time and Trescothick shoulders arms to that one, collection job for the 'keeper

Mohammad Asif to Trescothick, no run, impressive line and length, pitched up on middle and leg, defended to the on side

The rain has come down, the umpires have said enough is enough, the bails are removed, and we have our first hold-up in play. Skies very, very gloomy here, doesn't look good at all. This may be the order of the day, this on-and-off business, unless it really starts to pelt down.

We're almost ready to go, even though the weather is not entirely promising. Trescothick and Bell jogging out to the middle, this will be a 40-over per side match now. Asif to complete his over... 12.45pm The covers are being taken off now, play will resume in 15 minutes

7.4

Mohammad Asif to Trescothick, OUT, and he's gone this time! Full and swinging away from off, Tresco plays at it and the ball flies low and hard to Younis Khan at second slip who makes no mistake. Shoaib Akhtar to Bell, OUT, another one! Shoaib on fire, short of a good length in that zone outside off stump and Bell unleashes the tamest of drives and can only get an edge into the big, safe hands of Inzamam at first slip.
