NatWest Series [Pakistan in England] - 4th match

England v Pakistan

England won by 8 wickets (with 22 balls remaining)

Nearly ready to get underway here. The crowd are filling up slowly, and here come the England fielders, led by Strauss and it will be Stuart Broad to open the attack. And it's Shahid Afridi to open the innings! This could be exciting. What am I saying, this will be exciting. Slip and a gully, here comes Broad

14.20BST It's a glorious day at Trent Bridge; cloudless skies, warm and sunny. And while you slave away in your offices, don't forget to keep an eye on Andrew McGlashan's bulletin - updated throughout the innings.

14.00BST Andrew Strauss tosses, Inzamam calls and yet again he wins the toss! So, Pakistan will bat and they will field the same team which won at The Rose Bowl. Strauss says he's "not too bothered about chasing," clearly not speaking for the throngs of England fans who are concerned...nevertheless, Joyce will open the innings with Strauss later in the day.

13.55BST Good afternoon everybody. Welcome to Trent Bridge and to Cricinfo's coverage of the fourth one-dayer between England and Pakistan. First off, let's get the team news out of the way. Michael Yardy replaces Rikki Clarke, who was dreadfully expensive in the third ODI at The Rose Bowl, and Ed Joyce replaces Marcus Trescothick. And a piece of information from Andrew McGlashan, Cricinfo's resident Oracle, this is the first time Trescothick has been dropped in his entire international career. Quite some fact, that. We've yet to hear any news from the Pakistan camp, but will bring it to you as and when. It'll be me, Will Luke, and Jenny Thompson to take you through today's proceedings and we hope you enjoy the coverage, wherever you might be.

0.1

Broad to Mohammad Hafeez, no run, it's wide of the off stump and swinging away - the umpire, Daryl Harper - smiles and ponders calling it a wide, but decides against it

0.2

Broad to Mohammad Hafeez, FOUR, too wide, too full and Hafeez smashes it through the covers. Really fine shot

0.3

Broad to Mohammad Hafeez, no run, better length from Broad, just short of driving length and it's left alone by Hafeez outside the offstump

0.4

Broad to Mohammad Hafeez, no run, good ball on offstump, jagging back nastily to the right-handed Hafeez, the ball hitting him on his thigh

0.5

Broad to Mohammad Hafeez, no run, too wide to trouble Hafeez and he ignores this, shouldering arms

0.6

Broad to Mohammad Hafeez, 1 wide, starts this on middle stump and it jags further down the legside causing Read to dive to his left, acrobatically - and Harper does call this a wide

0.6

Broad to Mohammad Hafeez, FOUR, wide, full and Hafeez goes down on one knee to hammer this over extra cover for four

A brilliant start for Pakistan, seizing the early initiative. Here comes Jon "never knowingly underbowled" Lewis to Afridi. Gulp.

End of over 1 (9 runs) Pakistan 9/0 (RR: 9.00)
Mohammad Hafeez    8* (6b 2x4)      SCJ Broad    1-0-9-0
Shahid Afridi    0* (0b)

1.1

Lewis to Shahid Afridi, 2 wides, and he starts with a wide. Poor start...but it does at least get Afridi off the strike. Every cloud...silver linings, and all that

1.1

Lewis to Mohammad Hafeez, no run, better delivery from Lewis outside Hafeez's offstump and swinging away quite prodigiously. Hafeez shoulders arms

1.2

Lewis to Mohammad Hafeez, OUT, pitched up, straighter and swinging away from Hafeez who throws his hands at the ball but edges it straight to Strauss at first slip, who takes it in front of his nose. A wicket for Lewis in his first over again - great comeback for England

Mohammad Hafeez c Strauss b Lewis 8 (6m 8b 2x4 0x6) SR: 100.00

Two slips in place for Younis Khan

That's the third time Lewis has taken a wicket in his opening over for England. He's a dangerous, accurate customer with the new ball. Maybe those wides at Afridi at the start of the over was a tactic...

1.3

Lewis to Younis Khan, no run, outside the offstump again, but a touch too wide and Younis leaves it well alone&

1.4

Lewis to Younis Khan, no run, excellent delivery! Left alone by the right-handed Younis (who's in such brilliant form at the moment) but it was a testing, tight line on his offstump and angling away to the slips

1.5

Lewis to Younis Khan, no run, straighter still from Lewis, swinging away and full enough for Younis to jab his bat down on it. Neatly played with soft hands into the covers

1.6

Lewis to Younis Khan, no run, half a yelped appeal from Lewis and the cordon behind the stumps, but it's going down the legside

Excellent start for Lewis. It'll be Broad to Afridi

End of over 2 (2 runs) Pakistan 11/1 (RR: 5.50)
Younis Khan    0* (4b)      J Lewis    1-0-2-1
Shahid Afridi    0* (0b)      SCJ Broad    1-0-9-0

2.1

Broad to Shahid Afridi, no run, outside the offstump and, amazingly, Afridi leaves it alone.

2.2

Broad to Shahid Afridi, no run, good line from Broad, tight and straight and defended on the front foot by Afridi very watchfully

2.3

Broad to Shahid Afridi, SIX, my word, what a ridiculously brilliant shot that is! Just short of a length and Afridi bunts it over Broad's head for a six.

His 216th six in one-dayers...

2.4

Broad to Shahid Afridi, no run, great comeback! Enticing Afridi forward who prods meekly at it and it passes by his outside edge

2.5

Broad to Shahid Afridi, no run, this is a terrific response from Broad, pitching it up to Afridi and jagging back markedly, almost cutting the batsman in half.

2.6

Broad to Shahid Afridi, no run, and he shoulders arms again

Well, bar the six Afridi crunched, it was a fine over from Broad. In fact, the six struck off him was a perfectly useful delivery, too...but such is Afridi's dominance that even excellent balls can be smeared

End of over 3 (6 runs) Pakistan 17/1 (RR: 5.66)
Shahid Afridi    6* (6b 1x6)      SCJ Broad    2-0-15-0
Younis Khan    0* (4b)      J Lewis    1-0-2-1

3.1

Lewis to Younis Khan, no run, left alone outside the offstump, swinging away

3.2

Lewis to Younis Khan, OUT, GONE! Terrific delivery from Lewis pitching it right up to Younis; on middle-stump and swinging away, Younis edges it straight to Collingwood at second slip.

Younis Khan c Collingwood b Lewis 0 (7m 6b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00

This is exceptional swing bowling from Lewis - under cloudless, blue skies too.

3.3

Lewis to Mohammad Yousuf, no run, a touch too straight and nudged into the legside

3.4

Lewis to Mohammad Yousuf, no run, ah great bowling! Edged short of third slip - very well played by Yousuf, really, but excellent bowling

Ian Bell comes in to third slip

3.5

Lewis to Mohammad Yousuf, no run, again in the corridor of uncertainty, swinging away a touch and Yousuf rocks back onto his stumps to play it off the back foot

3.6

Lewis to Mohammad Yousuf, 2 runs, neatly pushed down the ground

End of over 4 (2 runs) Pakistan 19/2 (RR: 4.75)
Mohammad Yousuf    2* (4b)      J Lewis    2-0-4-2
Shahid Afridi    6* (6b 1x6)      SCJ Broad    2-0-15-0

4.1

Broad to Shahid Afridi, no run, decent ball outside off, short and rising a touch onto Afridi - also jagging back to the right-hander who leaves it alone

4.2

Broad to Shahid Afridi, FOUR, lovely shot off the back foot, smashing it square of the wicket. Quite classical

4.3

Broad to Shahid Afridi, no run, that's better from Broad, swinging it away from Afridi who leaves it alone.

4.4

Broad to Shahid Afridi, 1 run, outside off - perhaps a slower ball, and Afridi laces it off the front foot, opening the blade to hit it square, but it's not timed quite well enough and third man sprints to his right to field

4.5

Broad to Mohammad Yousuf, no run, short of a length and left alone by boom boom

4.6

Broad to Mohammad Yousuf, no run, that's the length, right up there - allowing the ball to swing, and Broad is getting some decent inswing - which Afridi inside-edges to the legside

End of over 5 (5 runs) Pakistan 24/2 (RR: 4.80)
Mohammad Yousuf    2* (6b)      SCJ Broad    3-0-20-0
Shahid Afridi    11* (10b 1x4 1x6)      J Lewis    2-0-4-2

5.1

Lewis to Shahid Afridi, no run, what a cracker! An absolute snorting snorter from Lewis, swinging away from Afridi and passing his outside edge

5.2

Lewis to Shahid Afridi, no run, and again, more swing for Lewis although Afridi did pull his bat away...although he was still lucky not to edge it

5.3

Lewis to Shahid Afridi, no run, oh my word, this is some over from Lewis. He's bowling some bananas out there, curving away from Afridi who once again can't lay a bat on it

Pietersen at third slip now

5.4

Lewis to Shahid Afridi, FOUR, too short, too straight and pulled with great timing over square leg for four. Awesome shot

Well, this is terrific cricket

5.5

Lewis to Shahid Afridi, 1 run, fine comeback from Lewis, in the corridor outside Afridi's offstump - full, too, but Afridi plays it with soft hands into gully

5.6

Lewis to Mohammad Yousuf, no run, Yousuf plays this very late off the back foot

End of over 6 (5 runs) Pakistan 29/2 (RR: 4.83)
Mohammad Yousuf    2* (7b)      J Lewis    3-0-9-2
Shahid Afridi    16* (15b 2x4 1x6)      SCJ Broad    3-0-20-0

6.1

Broad to Shahid Afridi, no run, false stroke...he tried to hit this into Derbyshire and missed it by a mile

6.2

Broad to Shahid Afridi, no run

6.3

Broad to Shahid Afridi, 1 run, oooh nearly falls into Pietersen's hands at cover, but it's just beyond him, as Afridi tries to hit this over long-on but gets a leading edge. Nicely bowled from Broad, getting some decent bounce

6.4

Broad to Mohammad Yousuf, 1 wide, no, too wide - and called a wide from the umpire Harper

Broad needs to keep his composure here

6.4

Broad to Mohammad Yousuf, 1 wide, down the legside and that'll be another wide

6.4

Broad to Mohammad Yousuf, no run, much better line and length which is left alone by the batsman

6.5

Broad to Mohammad Yousuf, no run, outside off and it's left alone again

6.6

Broad to Mohammad Yousuf, no run, good end to the over, pitching it right up and just a hint of swing away from the right-hander

End of over 7 (3 runs) Pakistan 32/2 (RR: 4.57)
Mohammad Yousuf    2* (10b)      SCJ Broad    4-0-23-0
Shahid Afridi    17* (18b 2x4 1x6)      J Lewis    3-0-9-2

7.1

Lewis to Shahid Afridi, 1 run, ooh what a ball! What a great ball from Lewis, squaring Afridi up who gets a leading edge which somehow evades the fielders

7.2

Lewis to Mohammad Yousuf, no run, crikey, that's out - no it's not, ignore me, I'm getting too excited. Great ball again, on his middle stump and swinging away once more, played back to the bowler

7.3

Lewis to Mohammad Yousuf, no run, banana swing away from the right-hander who plays it down neatly

7.4

Lewis to Mohammad Yousuf, 1 run, too straight this time, allowing the batsman to turn it down to fine leg for a single

7.5

Lewis to Shahid Afridi, no run, played off the back foot, too short to drive...Afridi looking very watchful against Lewis here

7.6

Lewis to Shahid Afridi, 2 runs, short and outside off, Afridi smashes it down to third man and Joyce pulls off a terrific diving stop to save four

Sajid Mahmood into the attack. This could be interesting! He's been less than impressive so far this series

End of over 8 (4 runs) Pakistan 36/2 (RR: 4.50)
Shahid Afridi    20* (21b 2x4 1x6)      J Lewis    4-0-13-2
Mohammad Yousuf    3* (13b)      SCJ Broad    4-0-23-0

8.1

Mahmood to Mohammad Yousuf, no run, but he starts well, Mahmood, getting a touch of movement away from the right-hander who plays it watchfully into the covers

8.2

Mahmood to Mohammad Yousuf, 1 run, reasonably well bowled but it's neatly timed down the ground

8.3

Mahmood to Shahid Afridi, no run, nice away movement for Mahmood - all three England bowlers have found some swing this afternoon - but it's too full to trouble Afridi who nudges it into the covers

8.4

Mahmood to Shahid Afridi, 1 run, and this time he loses his line; it's too straight, allowing him to nick a single on the legside

8.5

Mahmood to Mohammad Yousuf, no run, touch shorter and a bit more bite in that delivery, played off his legs

8.6

Mahmood to Mohammad Yousuf, no run, again too short and too straight

Not a bad start for Mahmood. Not particularly threatening, though

End of over 9 (2 runs) Pakistan 38/2 (RR: 4.22)
Mohammad Yousuf    4* (17b)      SI Mahmood    1-0-2-0
Shahid Afridi    21* (23b 2x4 1x6)      J Lewis    4-0-13-2

9.1

Lewis to Shahid Afridi, no run, the perfect length from Lewis forcing the batsman back who plays it with a straight bat, holding the pose

9.2

Lewis to Shahid Afridi, 1 run, and he comes down the pitch, attempting to clobber this over midwicket but gets a leading edge down to third man. Rikki Clarke, on as a sub for Joyce, comes forward to take the catch but drops it. Oh. Dear.

9.3

Lewis to Mohammad Yousuf, no run, played off the back foot

9.4

Lewis to Mohammad Yousuf, 1 run

9.5

Lewis to Shahid Afridi, 1 run, on middle stump, flicked away to Bell at square leg

9.6

Lewis to Mohammad Yousuf, no run, a touch slower and Yousuf plays it off the back foot, very nearly deceived by the change in pace and nods his acknowledgement to Lewis

Nods or no nods, Lewis will be fairly fuming; Afridi should have been caught, and Clarke's miserable one-day series continues

End of over 10 (3 runs) Pakistan 41/2 (RR: 4.10)
Mohammad Yousuf    5* (20b)      J Lewis    5-0-16-2
Shahid Afridi    23* (26b 2x4 1x6)      SI Mahmood    1-0-2-0

10.1

Mahmood to Shahid Afridi, OUT, gone! Afridi falls this time as Mahmood pitches it up and he's trapped in front. That's as plumb as you get - absolutely dead. Lewis can breath a sigh of relief...and so can Clarke for that matter

Shahid Afridi lbw b Mahmood 23 (45m 27b 2x4 1x6) SR: 85.18

Here comes Inzy

Photos are filtering through from the ground, so keep an eye on them.

10.2

Mahmood to Inzamam-ul-Haq, no run, what a ball from Mahmood, swinging away from Inzamam - and cutting away even further - who is extremely fortunate not to get an edge

10.3

Mahmood to Inzamam-ul-Haq, no run, fuller this time and Inzamam drives with typical laconic laziness to mid-on

10.4

Mahmood to Inzamam-ul-Haq, 1 wide, no no, you can't bowl there. It's Mahmood's first wide of the day

10.4

Mahmood to Inzamam-ul-Haq, no run, clunked off the back foot to a shorter delivery outside his off stump

10.5

Mahmood to Inzamam-ul-Haq, no run, hello there...Inzamam moves across his stumps, early, but Mahmood sends it down outside his offstump. Strange move that from Inzy, who plays it neatly out into the covers. Neatly but watchfully

10.6

Mahmood to Inzamam-ul-Haq, no run, and he leaves this alone

A much, much better over from Mahmood, retaining the pressure Broad and Lewis put on Pakistan's batsman - and taking the massive (huge) wicket of Afridi

End of over 11 (1 run) Pakistan 42/3 (RR: 3.81)
Inzamam-ul-Haq    0* (5b)      SI Mahmood    2-0-3-1
Mohammad Yousuf    5* (20b)      J Lewis    5-0-16-2

11.1

Lewis to Mohammad Yousuf, no run, outside off but, for once, there's no swing on offer. A swingless ball, if you like

11.2

Lewis to Mohammad Yousuf, no run, great delivery on off stump, again no swing but Yousuf defends it watchfully on the front foot again

11.3

Lewis to Mohammad Yousuf, no run, full-pitched delivery and cutting back into the right-hander, half a strangled yelp from the bowler as it his the splice of Yousuf's bat

11.4

Lewis to Mohammad Yousuf, 1 run, wide of the off stump and cut past third slip - I almost jumped out of my chair there in excitement, but that's why I'm writing about cricket and not actually playing it. Yousuf was in perfect control of that

11.5

Lewis to Inzamam-ul-Haq, 1 run, a legside drifter clipped off his legs by Inzamam

Lewis is tiring a bit here. It's his sixth over on the trot, and he's not looking as incisive as he was earlier

11.6

Lewis to Mohammad Yousuf, no run, solidly defended off the back foot

End of over 12 (2 runs) Pakistan 44/3 (RR: 3.66)
Mohammad Yousuf    6* (25b)      J Lewis    6-0-18-2
Inzamam-ul-Haq    1* (6b)      SI Mahmood    2-0-3-1

12.1

Mahmood to Inzamam-ul-Haq, no run, the bouncer and Inzamam tries to hook it, letting out an audible heave, but it got through him too quickly

12.2

Mahmood to Inzamam-ul-Haq, no run, good ball from Mahmood, forcing Inzamam onto the back foot

12.3

Mahmood to Inzamam-ul-Haq, no run, nudged to leg

12.4

Mahmood to Inzamam-ul-Haq, no run, swinging in to the right-hander, excellent ball as Inzamam shuffles across his stumps

12.5

Mahmood to Inzamam-ul-Haq, no run, and again Inzamam shuffles across to the off side to counter the banana swing, pushing it out into the leg side. Could be a chance for lbw here from Mahmood

12.6

Mahmood to Inzamam-ul-Haq, no run, well bowled - excellent over from Mahmood, a maiden! It's a miracle!

Talking of miraculous maidens, here's Jenny Thompson.

Thanks Will! Hello everyone!

End of over 13 (maiden) Pakistan 44/3 (RR: 3.38)
Inzamam-ul-Haq    1* (12b)      SI Mahmood    3-1-3-1
Mohammad Yousuf    6* (25b)      J Lewis    6-0-18-2

13.1

Lewis to Mohammad Yousuf, no run, tries to hit that through midwicket but Bell scoops it up

13.2

Lewis to Mohammad Yousuf, no run, got up a little bit and that's defended downwards

13.3

Lewis to Mohammad Yousuf, no run, pitches outside off and that's worked into cover

13.4

Lewis to Mohammad Yousuf, no run, pushed on to the back foot, another dot ball. Yousuf's being kept uncharacteristically quiet here - he won't like that

13.5

Lewis to Mohammad Yousuf, no run, defended once more, good bowling by Lewis again

13.6

Lewis to Mohammad Yousuf, no run, a bit of a frustrated lash at that one off the back foot, doesn't get hold of it and it rolls into the off side

Two pretty maidens all in a row (OK, pedants, both in a row)

End of over 14 (maiden) Pakistan 44/3 (RR: 3.14)
Mohammad Yousuf    6* (31b)      J Lewis    7-1-18-2
Inzamam-ul-Haq    1* (12b)      SI Mahmood    3-1-3-1

14.1

Mahmood to Inzamam-ul-Haq, 2 runs, good shot, found the gap through cover and that's chased down to the cover boundary

14.2

Mahmood to Inzamam-ul-Haq, 1 run, on the backfoot and found an outside edge, down to third man, with the bottom hand coming off the bat. Not convincing from Inzamam-ul-Haq

14.3

Mahmood to Mohammad Yousuf, no run, hit into midwicket

14.4

Mahmood to Mohammad Yousuf, 1 run, controlled steer down to a wide third man, lovely

14.5

Mahmood to Inzamam-ul-Haq, no run, pitches back of a length, the ball doesn't get up properly and that's just casually defended

14.6

Mahmood to Inzamam-ul-Haq, 1 run, slower delivery and Inzamam judged that one pretty well, getting into position early, but he didn't quite time the huge pull he was attempting and gets just the single, after they run one short

The fifty's up now for Pakistan, who are just taking their time to rebuild after an early flurry. England call for the last Power Play, with the second one only costing eight runs off its five overs

End of over 15 (5 runs) Pakistan 49/3 (RR: 3.26)
Inzamam-ul-Haq    5* (16b)      SI Mahmood    4-1-8-1
Mohammad Yousuf    7* (33b)      J Lewis    7-1-18-2

15.1

Lewis to Mohammad Yousuf, no run, defended

15.2

Lewis to Mohammad Yousuf, 1 run, squared up a treat by one which swung a touch away and an outside edge loops up to the vacant slip area

15.3

Lewis to Inzamam-ul-Haq, 1 run, another outside edge after Inzamam tried to crouch over that one

15.4

Lewis to Mohammad Yousuf, no run, defended again

15.5

Lewis to Mohammad Yousuf, no run, decent ball has Yousuf hopping out of the way of that one as he jams his bat on one which lands on a good length and just gets his bat on it

15.6

Lewis to Mohammad Yousuf, no run

This has been a much more convincing bowling performance from England

End of over 16 (2 runs) Pakistan 51/3 (RR: 3.18)
Mohammad Yousuf    8* (38b)      J Lewis    8-1-20-2
Inzamam-ul-Haq    6* (17b)      SI Mahmood    4-1-8-1

16.1

Mahmood to Inzamam-ul-Haq, FOUR, rocked back and squirted through square cover off for a rare boundary - the first in 63 balls

16.2

Mahmood to Inzamam-ul-Haq, no run, defended this time

16.3

Mahmood to Inzamam-ul-Haq, no run, pushed on to the back foot and that's defended down with the full face of the bat

16.4

Mahmood to Inzamam-ul-Haq, FOUR, lovely shot, just picked that up off the legs and tapped it up through midwicket and it races away with pure timing. Beautiful

16.5

Mahmood to Inzamam-ul-Haq, FOUR, and another delightful shot, creamed off the back foot through point this time. That's Inzi's third four this over, a bit of a turnaround for Pakistan

16.6

Mahmood to Inzamam-ul-Haq, no run, better length and Inzamam tries to work that through midwicket but pulls out of the shot

Broad is back into the attack now

End of over 17 (12 runs) Pakistan 63/3 (RR: 3.70)
Inzamam-ul-Haq    18* (23b 3x4)      SI Mahmood    5-1-20-1
Mohammad Yousuf    8* (38b)      J Lewis    8-1-20-2

17.1

Broad to Mohammad Yousuf, no run, moves back on to his tiptoes to fend a shortish one into cover

17.2

Broad to Mohammad Yousuf, no run, fresh air shot at that one, which flirts past his outside edge. Yousuf still trying to settle in here

17.3

Broad to Mohammad Yousuf, no run, ooh, that looked and sounded like an inside edge onto the pad - and replays show it was - but didn't carry through far enough for Read to claim it, despite a big dive forward; the keeper took it on the bounce

17.4

Broad to Mohammad Yousuf, no run, a bit of a long hop and the batsman doesn't quite time it round to fine leg

17.5

Broad to Mohammad Yousuf, no run, Broad gets away with a half-volley which Yousuf fails to hit back at him. The batsman's really lost his timing here

17.6

Broad to Mohammad Yousuf, no run, better ball to finish the over, right up there and the batsman can only defend it on the front foot. Another maiden

End of over 18 (maiden) Pakistan 63/3 (RR: 3.50)
Mohammad Yousuf    8* (44b)      SCJ Broad    5-1-23-0

18.1

Mahmood to Inzamam-ul-Haq, no run, pushed right up there, the ball doesn't get up and Inzamam tries to work it to midwicket but doesn't get hold of the shot

18.2

Mahmood to Inzamam-ul-Haq, FOUR, great shot, a whip off the back foot - his front leg leaps forward as the ball goes square

18.3

Mahmood to Inzamam-ul-Haq, no run, defended

18.4

Mahmood to Inzamam-ul-Haq, 1 run, guided off the back foot with a drive through cover and that's cleverly gathered on the slide

18.5

Mahmood to Mohammad Yousuf, no run, right on the money and that's defended once more

18.6

Mahmood to Mohammad Yousuf, no run, banged in short on a good off-stump line and the batsman defends that one on the back foot

End of over 19 (5 runs) Pakistan 68/3 (RR: 3.57)
Mohammad Yousuf    8* (46b)      SI Mahmood    6-1-25-1
Inzamam-ul-Haq    23* (27b 4x4)      SCJ Broad    5-1-23-0

19.1

Broad to Inzamam-ul-Haq, FOUR, short, on the leg side, and Inzamam is quickly on that one with a dazzling flick off the back foot which he whips to fine leg for a one-bounce four

19.2

Broad to Inzamam-ul-Haq, no run, Broad almost goes too far in correcting the line, as it goes wideish down the off side and is left alone

19.3

Broad to Inzamam-ul-Haq, 1 leg bye, fired in at the pads and there's a loud - but lone - shout for lbw from Broad. It's way outside off stump and is too high

19.4

Broad to Mohammad Yousuf, no run, good line and length and the batsman crouches over that one to defend

19.5

Broad to Mohammad Yousuf, FOUR, top shot! That's much more like it from Yousuf who stretches himself into a cover drive which he lashes away with much authority to bring up his first boundary after 48 deliveries

19.6

Broad to Mohammad Yousuf, 1 run, cut through backward point, parried down for a single

Dalrymple into the attack for a change of pace

End of over 20 (10 runs) Pakistan 78/3 (RR: 3.90)

20.1

Dalrymple to Mohammad Yousuf, 1 run, waited and works that off the back foot through midwicket

20.2

Dalrymple to Inzamam-ul-Haq, no run, mistimed that one which trickles into the leg side

20.3

Dalrymple to Inzamam-ul-Haq, 1 run, guided down to third man, who's yards in from the rope

20.4

Dalrymple to Mohammad Yousuf, no run, defended this time

Broad to Shoaib Akhtar, no run, dropped! Shoaib absolutely laces this one off the middle, in the air to Strauss at cover who parries it, and it bobbles up...but he can't take the rebound. A dropped chance, but his hands must be ringing

45.2

Broad to Shoaib Akhtar, OUT, and it's up in the air as Shoaib tries to hit this over Broad's head, gets a leading edge down to Joyce at third man who runs in and takes a useful, albeit comfortable catch. Broad has his man.

Shoaib Akhtar c Joyce b Broad 10 (20m 19b 0x4 1x6) SR: 52.63

45.3

Broad to Abdul Razzaq, 1 run, squirted down to Joyce at third man again

It's the silly season now - under five overs to go, and mayhem could ensue

45.4

Broad to Naved-ul-Hasan, no run, outside off, no great pace and is left well alone

45.5

Broad to Naved-ul-Hasan, no run, ooh what a delivery that is, angling into the right-hander before cutting away from the batsman's meek prod forward. No appeal from the wicketkeeper or the bowler, bizarrely

45.6

Broad to Naved-ul-Hasan, no run, angles this into the batsman, hits his pad and bobbles out to leg&

Mahmood into the attack. Or as as a friend recently said to me, "Mahmood's a bit

End of over 46 (1 run) Pakistan 166/8 (RR: 3.60)
Naved-ul-Hasan    0* (3b)      SCJ Broad    7-1-33-1
Abdul Razzaq    29* (53b 2x4)      JWM Dalrymple    10-0-38-1

46.1

Mahmood to Abdul Razzaq, no run, down the leg side but Razzaq can't get hold of it and it bobbles out to midwicket

46.2

Mahmood to Abdul Razzaq, no run, well bowled Mahmood! A very slow ball, completely deceiving Razzaq, but it was misdirected really...aim at the stumps

46.3

Mahmood to Abdul Razzaq, 1 run, short and slow again, they scamper a single to midwicket who flings in a quick return

46.4

Mahmood to Naved-ul-Hasan, 1 wide, and that's a wide down the legside, which gets a cheer from a healthy Pakistan crowd

46.4

Mahmood to Naved-ul-Hasan, 1 wide, outside off this time, and too wide

46.4

Mahmood to Naved-ul-Hasan, 2 runs, pushed off the back foot to deep extra cover, nicely timed

46.5

Mahmood to Naved-ul-Hasan, FOUR, well, it's another slower ball but it's hopelessly misdirected. Too wide of the offstump and Rana reads it, clobbering it over long-off for four. Fine shot.

46.6

Mahmood to Naved-ul-Hasan, 2 runs, tucked off his legs down to fine-leg and they push hard for two

Ah, now then, it's the big shopping store into the attack, Jon Lewis. Excellent over for Pakistan; 11 runs and plenty of intent

End of over 47 (11 runs) Pakistan 177/8 (RR: 3.76)
Naved-ul-Hasan    8* (6b 1x4)      SI Mahmood    7-1-36-1
Abdul Razzaq    30* (56b 2x4)      SCJ Broad    7-1-33-1

47.1

Lewis to Abdul Razzaq, FOUR, oh that's a superb shot, smiting it over midwicket for a four. Very well timed

47.2

Lewis to Abdul Razzaq, no run, swing and a miss - shudder to think how far that would've gone if he connected - and Read takes the ball expertly, whipping off the bails and asking the umpire...but Razzaq was safely back in his crease

47.3

Lewis to Abdul Razzaq, FOUR, oh, fantastic shot; outside off stump, too full and he creams it over cover for another four! Have some of that

47.4

Lewis to Abdul Razzaq, no run

47.5

Lewis to Abdul Razzaq, 1 run, down the legside, Razzaq swings this to deep square leg but they can only get a single

Rana on strike now

47.6

Lewis to Naved-ul-Hasan, 2 leg byes, Rana comes forward, misses the ball which flies past Read down to third man.

This is a great comeback from Pakistan. Two overs left, and they're ticking right now. Lovely cameo from Razzaq. Mahmood to continue

End of over 48 (11 runs) Pakistan 188/8 (RR: 3.91)
Naved-ul-Hasan    8* (7b 1x4)      J Lewis    9-1-29-2
Abdul Razzaq    39* (61b 4x4)      SI Mahmood    7-1-36-1

48.1

Mahmood to Abdul Razzaq, no run, the bouncer, Razzaq ducks underneath and it's a dot ball. But that's Mahmood's "lot" for bouncers in this over...

48.2

Mahmood to Abdul Razzaq, SIX, yes, that's gone! He climbs into this shorter delivery, another slower ball, and smacks it with a resounding clunk of the bat miles over midwicket.

This is messy for England, and superb for Pakistan

48.3

Mahmood to Abdul Razzaq, 5 wides, down the legside, oh dear, it passes Read. Mahmood's losing it here, and losing it badly...it races down to fine-leg

48.3

Mahmood to Abdul Razzaq, 4 leg byes, and he just gets a bat on it, or something anyway, but it beats a wide fine-leg and it races for another four

48.4

Mahmood to Abdul Razzaq, SIX, that's into France! He moves to leg and swings through the line, smashing it over a wide long-off for another enormous six! This is carnage for England

48.5

Mahmood to Abdul Razzaq, FOUR, outside off, Razzaq creams this over extra cover for four! Exhilarating batting from Razzaq, and poor bowling from Mahmood

48.6

Mahmood to Abdul Razzaq, 1 run, slower ball from Mahmood and for once Razzaq can't time it, clunking it over the bowler's head

26 runs off the over. Twenty six runs from a single over. Yowzers

End of over 49 (26 runs) Pakistan 214/8 (RR: 4.36)
Abdul Razzaq    56* (67b 5x4 2x6)      SI Mahmood    8-1-58-1
Naved-ul-Hasan    8* (7b 1x4)      J Lewis    9-1-29-2

49.1

Lewis to Abdul Razzaq, 1 run, a yorker (at last), but it's dug out and pushed down the ground

49.2

Lewis to Abdul Razzaq, SIX, it's gone again, miles over long-off! What a shot, and what an innings - absolutely crunching Lewis for another six

49.3

Lewis to Abdul Razzaq, 1 leg bye, he tries to smite it over midwicket, but misses out and they take a single

Breathless cricket, this

49.4

Lewis to Naved-ul-Hasan, 1 run, Rana's at now, the attempted sweep ballooning the ball over the wicketkeeper's head. Neither fine-leg or third man can reach it..and they pick up a single as that's one short

Razzaq back on strike

49.5

Lewis to Abdul Razzaq, SIX, this is extraordinary batting, absolutely remarkable. Another mow across the line; another missile over midwicket, yet another six!

The last ball of the innings, what can Lewis do now?

49.6

Lewis to Abdul Razzaq, SIX, never mind what Lewis can do, this is Razzaq's time and he creams it over his head for the biggest six of the lot.

Here come Ed Joyce and Andrew Strauss, the two England openers, jogging past the Pakistani huddle. So then, 236 to win and it'll be Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif to open the bowling for Pakistan

47 scored from the last two overs - five fours, five sixes from Razzaq who has suddenly, dramatically put Pakistan back into this match. Well - quite remarkable hitting from Razzaq which has really given Pakistan a great chance of sealing the series. England's bowlers dominated the Pakistan batsmen for so much of their innings until the Razzaq Rollercoaster got going. So then - join us in about 40 minutes for England's reply where Jenny will take you through the first 10 overs

End of over 50 (21 runs) Pakistan 235/8
