Profile

David Griffiths is a pace bowler who came through Hampshire's Academy and appeared regularly for the Second Eleven in 2003 and 2004. He was part of the England Under 19 side which beat Bangladesh on home soil in 2004 and was subsequently named in the squad for the tour of India in 2005, where he played in two Tests and three one-day internationals. He was given a one-year deal for the 2005 season, but missed the whole of that summer with a stress fracture of the back, and it wasn't until 2009 that he managed to string together a decent run in Hampshire's First XI. The highlight of his summer was taking 4 for 29 to help set up a three-wicket win over Gloucestershire in a NatWest Pro40 match at the Rose Bowl, and he carried his good form into the 2010 season, taking 5 for 85 against Essex at Chelmsford in a Championship game. He was again beset by injury problems, however, and missed much of the season. To his credit, he forced his way back into the reckoning in 2011 but made only six Championship appearances. Going into 2012, Griffiths was again a fringe first team player.
