Simon Jones is out of the Test and one-day series against Sri Lanka after injuring his left knee against Ireland on Monday when playing for Glamorgan. Jones has been told to rest for six weeks after an MRI scan revealed he had sustained a new injury to his knee, in the shape of cartilage damage. He could yet require surgery.
Jones adds to the list of injury woes for England, with Michael Vaughan, Ashley Giles and Steve Harmison already out of the first Test which starts at Lord's on Thursday 11 May. The news is yet another setback for Jones, who had just recovered from ankle and knee problems which forced him out of the winter tours of India and Pakistan and his early season preparations had been going well.
