The Jayasuriya saga
It's an ongoing saga that has racked Sri Lankan cricket. Not long ago, Sanath Jayasuriya retired from Test cricket so that he could focus on one-day cricket until the World Cup. Then, as the line-up of selectors changed, it was revealed that Jayasuriya's hand had been forced, and that he now wanted to come back into the Test side. The new chairman of selectors agreed, and Jayasuriya duly made his way to England to join the touring Sri Lankans.
To understand the nuances of exactly what is happening, Cricinfo's Amit Varma caught up with Charlie Austin, who has been covering Sri Lankan cricket for Cricinfo for many years now. Charlie explains how selections in Sri Lankan cricket have always been influenced by politics, and tells us exactly how things stand now, and what Jayasuriya's team-mates make of all this.
